News-Letter-March-2012

March 2012
President’s Perspective
John Halberstater
On the 1st April we welcome our new professional Jason Mulligan to our team.
It is with regret we accepted David Cardillo’s resignation for family reasons.
This heralds a new era for our club as David has had more than 20 years service and we
wish him well in the future.
Within the next month we hope to be able to establish and consolidate support for the new
Buggy shed. Construction will start when the project becomes self funding by hire
agreements. Any leftover bays will be much more expensive.
Of course the overpowering issue is the Pineapple Patch development. An enormous
amount of work has gone on behind the scenes over the last 3 – 4 months. In the next
4 – 6 weeks I hope to be in a position to finalise this agreement one way or the other. I thank
the many people I have commandeered for this very involved, complicated and huge
project that affects the very future of the club. I promise you, the members, will be fully
informed before any decision is reached.
I welcome all new members to our club. We have accepted over one hundred new members
in the last twelve months. This is very pleasing in these tough economic times.
“MY BITCHY MOMENT” – We have an increasing disregard of the rules regarding
motorised buggy operation by our members. Please make yourselves aware and do not drive
within six metres of the greens, obey all directions and stay off the tees. It is impossible for
us to enforce the rules to people who hire our buggies if an example is not set by our members,
not to mention the increased maintenance of the course.
The challenges remain and I thank you for your indulgence, especially the staff, committee,
personal volunteers and you the members.
Good golfing
John
President of Vice
Chris Kennard
As John has mentioned above, we are getting to a critical stage of planning for our new buggy
shed. It will house 20 carts and be fully enclosed, and have a few extras included.
I am in the process of getting revised quotes so from there we can take it forward.
Captain’s Corner
Nev Jones
During February we had record fields on Saturdays of 175 – 186 – 180 – 160. This is great so
please keep playing more often. Book online early to ensure you have a time slot.
From the Starters Box
‘Slow Play’ is still a problem, with a few players disregarding our requests to keep up with the
group in front, and failure to call the following groups through. The offenders have a very short
time to comply or the Match Committee will take decisive action.
I urge every player to re-familiarise themselves on the etiquette of the game. I refer you to the
Rules of Golf pages 18 – 21.

NOTICE TO MEMBERS
Starting on Monday 12th March - All greens will be scarified and top dressed.
We are pleased to say that our new mower is on its way.
About House
Bruce Cook
Our carpet in the clubhouse has finally been replaced. The carpet served us well for about 25
years, but the strategically placed mats and plants that hid the frays and well worn bare patches
were beginning to become an obstacle themselves. However a manufacturing flaw will see the
carpet replaced in the near future.
Our condolences to our staff member Jillian on the passing of her husband Lex after a long
illness.
One of our founding members Cassie Freeman is currently unable to play golf and we wish her
a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming her back.
We are very proud to welcome Rotary each Thursday for their dinner meetings.

he has been contracted for the past 5 years. Prior to that he was the Head Golf Professional at
Foster-Tuncurry Golf Club for a 5 year period. Jason, his wife Karen and their two daughters

Tuesday Ladies
Nadine Battilana
Welcome Ladies to Tuesday Golf. The year started out with beautiful dry weather, a little on
the warm side, oh alright it was quite tropical but we all coped. The committee were so excited
about the new year and still are. We played a 4BBB Stableford with beautiful trophies donated
by Betty Dann and Lesley Heap. We helped Marg Swaysland celebrate her 90 th birthday which
I’m sure you will all agree is a fantastic milestone in one’s life especially if your still playing
the wonderfully irritating game of golf. I’m sure a fun day was had by all.
Our following Tuesday, there was the colour of red and love in the air being Valentine’s Day.
We had the privilege of viewing a few beauties. The ladies bought in photos of themselves in
their hayday and let me just say all of them were gorgeous. So thank you ladies for sharing that
with us. Our lovely trophy donor for that day was Paula O’Brien with some lovely extra raffle
prizes. Following that we played a monthly medal and putts in exhaustingly hot weather. I was
proud of the ladies sticking it out in the heavy conditions and heat. True golfers!!
The 28th of February we played a stroke event with trophies donated by the lovely Young Jin
Hendrie.
Our nomination sheets are up for the Callianotis Shield being played at Yeppoon Friday 9th
March and the Ladies Invitation pennants being played Friday 23rd March at CCC. Thank you
all ladies that have nominated, it is much appreciated.
The month of March fixtures sheet will be hung on the Ladies noticeboard, keep an eye out for
any changes.
I am proud and elated at how well the ladies are grasping the computer booking online, even
though there were a few hiccups you have all kept at it so well done ladies. Any ideas or
changes or even some constructive criticism is always welcome ladies my door is always open.
Just for laughs
