HUFFMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL

6th Grade Math Syllabus
Mrs. Dunn’s Classes
Expectations:
I have high expectations for all students who walk through my door. The goal while
in math class is for everyone to be successful. It is necessary for all students to put
forth their very best effort and exhibit a high level of respect and self-discipline in class
everyday. This will promote and foster a positive place where all students can work to
their fullest potential.
Listed below are the expectations the district has regarding student conduct.

Grading:
Huffman Middle School’s policy states that grades will be weighted accordingly:
Classwork and Homework – 50%
Tests – 50%
Morning warm-ups, planners, class work, and class participation count toward
students’ classwork/homework grade.
Failed Test
Hopefully you will not need to use this option, but should you fail a test it is your
responsibility to make arrangements to come in either before school or after school to
make test corrections before you reschedule your re-test.
Test grades for retakes can only be raised to a 70 according to school policy.
Progress Reports:
My goal is to keep you informed. I will make every effort to send home a progress
report every week. This allows you and your child to stay informed about missing
assignments or low test grades. Check my website for any changes. One low daily grade,
not a zero, will be dropped for bringing back all signed math progress reports for the
entire grading period.
Parent Portal:
Don’t forget to access the Parent Portal to check your child’s grades. I make every
effort to update and add grades over the weekend. By Monday night your child’s grades
should be entered. Please remember that I am human and I do make mistakes. Check your
2
child’s weekly progress report and/or the parent portal carefully. Occasionally students
will make test corrections and I might forget to record it. I appreciate when parents or
students bring this to my attention, but I also require that students keep all graded
papers for the entire nine weeks so that they can show me the higher grade for
verification.
Homework:
Homework is designed for students to practice and review the concepts covered in
class. Students should expect homework Monday through Thursday each week. Homework
is listed on the board and on my web site every Monday for the entire week and
worksheets may also be printed from the web site when needed.
Make-up Work/Late Work Policies:
If you are absent it is your responsibility to either check my web site or the
Homework Assignments on the board. If there is a handout or worksheet, make sure you
get a copy. If you do not find one, ASK – this is your responsibility.
Students will have one day for each day absent to complete make-up work. If a
test was missed, it is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements to come in either
before school or after school to take the test.
School policy states that work that is late one day will lose 15 points, 2 days will
lose 30 points, and 3 days will lose 50 points. Leniency will be given for special situations,
but turning in assignments on time is the student’s responsibility and a sign of the maturity
that is expected of a middle school student.
Tutorials:
Tutorials provide teacher assisted instruction to enhance student success in the
classroom. Tutorials are offered before school from 7:00 – 7:20 daily in rooms 202 or 204, and
afternoons Monday – Friday from 3:00 – 3:30 with a campus math teacher. The afternoon
tutorial schedule is on the school website and posted outside each math classroom. Tutorial
attendance is strongly recommended for any student with an average below 75. Students may
also come in during the morning for questions regarding homework.
