It is frequently used to assess the research publication and to generate information that could be used by policy maker and experts. It is quantitative study of the research literature on a topic and it is used to identify patterns of publication authorship and secondary journal coverage to get an insight into growth of knowledge on that topic. The purpose of this study is to investigate the scientometric analysis of the journal of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking for selected six year between 2005-2010. Keywords : Scientometrics, Bibliometrics, authorship pattern, citation analysis, IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking 1. Introduction Systematic development of quantitative and evaluative science studies since the mid-20th century. Pritchard (1969)1 defined the term bibliometrics is “the application of mathematical and statistical methods to books and other media of communication. The scientometric is a referred to a branch of science. It is one of the sub fields of Bibliometric. Nalimov and Mulchenko (1969) defined this term “The application of those quantitative methods which are dealing with the analysis of science viewed as an information process”. It has developed tools to quantify that part of research output, which is documented in the framework of scholarly communication. scientometric researcher often attempt to measure the evaluation of scientific domain, the impact of scholarly publication, the pattern of authorship and the process of scientific knowledge production. 2. Source of Journal The Journal of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking is one of the foremost research journals in the communication and networking field. It is published bimonthly online electronic journal. It is published cosponsored by the IEEE Communications society, IEEE computer society and the ACM (Association for computing Machinery).this journal covers the subject like network architecture and design, communication protocols, network software, network technologies, network services and applications and network operation management. The scope of journal includes all topics on communication and networking. The present study aims to explore the scientometric analysis of the research work on IEEE/ACM Transactions on networking selected six year published article period between 2005 to 2010. 3. Review of Literature The review of literature have been studied by several authors analyzed the contributions of different journal of various fields. According to Thanuskodi (2010) the majority of articles of bibliometric study contain bibliometric references to journal, books, conference proceedings, dissertations etc. Neerja verma, etal (2009)5 to analyze the authorship pattern, subject wise analysis of articles, citation pattern and length of articles of contributions published the article in the journal of Annals of Library and Information Studies,2007.54;106-111.the analysis show s that majority of the articles in the journal are two authored and majority of the contributions are from new Delhi. 85 contributions have up to 10 citations. Asian Journal of Library and Information Science (ISSN: 0975-315X) 11 Vol.7: (3-4) December, 2015 . In this paper, an attempt has been made to analysis the contributions to journal of IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking published during the year 2005 -2010, in order to explore the author pattern, citation analysis and country wise authorship. This study covers the 750 articles of 36 issues published. 4. Objectives of the study The key objectives of the present study are to determine the following purposes. To identify the year wise contributions of articles. To observe the authorship pattern for a period of study To determine the length of articles To find out the number of reference in the articles To discover the country-wise distribution of articles 6. Methodology and limitation: The required data have been collected from the IEEE EXPLORE website of IEEE/ACM Transaction on networking pertaining to period from 2005-2010. 36 issues of 6 volumes from 2005-2010 have been selected for the study. These data were organized, calculated, tabulated, analyzed and presented by using simple arithmetic and statistical methods in order to arrive for its result. 7. Analysis and Interpretations: 7.1. An attempt has been made to study the geographical distribution of contributors. A list of top 47 countries which contributed majority of papers to the journal is given in table-5. It is revealed from table-5 that majority of contributors were from U.S.A. with 1373 (61.43%) contributors, followed by Canada with 94 (4.21%), Italy with 80 (3.58%) contributors. India stood at 12th position with 1.39 percent (31 papers) contributions. 8. Findings of the study: The analysis examined and discovered the following major findings and conclusions. It was identified that the highest number of contributions i.e., 151 (20.03%) were published in the year 2009 whereas the minimum number of 106(14.14%) was published in the year 2005. Out of total number of 750 journal articles, the highest number of contributions i.e., 721 (96.01%) have been contributed by multiple authors. Out of 750 articles published with highest 710 (94.66%) articles had page length in the range 11-15 pages. The maximum articles were contributed by author from USA 1373(61.43)followed by Canada94(4.21) is the second position, Out of 21983 reference, the highest number of citations 4691(21.34%) was in the year 2009 9. Conclusion Scientometrics is the analysis of structure of literature using various tools counting, rank frequency distributions, and citation analysis and although the structure of literature is basis to all disciplines. It is particularly important in the area of information retrieval. The journal has published 750 articles during the period of study. The maximum numbers of contributions are multiple authors with 721 (96.01%). The present study reveals that majority of the contributions appear under USA. the study revealed that maximum number of citations accounted in the period 2005-2010, 4691(21.34%).moreover the present study overview on actual published result of the work of scientist in the journal “IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking” during the study period.
