2017 IPC World Championships– Coach Selection Framework
Selection Event – 2017 Australian Championships, Brisbane, 9-13 April 2017
Eligibility
To be considered for selection on to the Australian Swim Team for the IPC World Championships a coach must:
a) be the ‘primary coach’ of a swimmer selected onto the 2017 IPC World Championships Team.
b) be a member of Swimming Australia Limited (SAL).
c) be a swimming coach accredited by the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme and hold a current
ASCTA Coaching Licence.
d) be in receipt of an official clearance (from the appropriate authority within their state of residence)
deeming them ‘cleared’ for child related employment.
e) agree to comply with the SAL Team Agreement and all associated policies.
The National Selection Committee (The Selectors) at their absolute discretion will select coaches for the 2017 IPC
World Championships Team. In finalising the selection of coaches The Selectors will consider:
i.
Needs of the team

ensuring the team has an appropriate number of coaches with previous experience at a
benchmark competition (Paralympic Games, IPC World Championships, Commonwealth Games,
Para Pan Pacific Championships)

the number of:
• athletes a coach has on the team and the world rankings (2016 3/nation) of
those athletes
• events each selected athlete is entered in, and on what days they will compete

the need for coaches with demonstrated relay experience
ii.
Competence and Capability - considered by The Selectors, competent and capable of leading:

a group of elite athletes who will be competing across multiple events and strokes, potentially
from outside their home program.

ongoing communication with the Home Coach after selection.

if requested, a relay team during the IPC World Championships.
iii.
Cultural alignment - considered by the Selectors, to be:

‘team players’ and able to make a positive contribution to the overall team.
The National Selection Committee may request that coaches seeking nomination attend an interview before the
final list of coaches is determined.
Should an interview be required The Selectors will consider the recommendation from the coach interview panel
which will compromise of the Paralympic Performance Manager, National Head Coach, an ASCTA representative,
and National Youth Coach.
Team Commitments
All coaches will be required to attend all team activities, as designated by the General Manager, Performance
including but not limited to:
Orientation Camp, Brisbane:
14-15 April 2017
Grand Prix, (TBC):
(TBC) 2017
Staging Camp (TBC):
20-26 September 2017
Withdrawal
Should an athlete withdraw from the 2017 IPC World Championships Team following the team announcement and
the coach of that swimmer gained selection (as a coach on the team) as a result of that swimmers performances,
if the coach has no other swimmers on the team the coach may be required to withdraw from the team.
The General Manager, Performance may request that the Selectors consider a replacement, provided the
replacement coach has met the performance requirements. If a replacement coach is required, the selection
committee will make a recommendation to the High Performance Committee (HPC).
Approval
The HPC may amend this criteria at any time. This criteria was approved by the HPC on the 5 November 2016.
