over the year. At this event we will have some timed events to see how your shooting has improved
from different spots on the floor.
Eligibility:
Any 4th – 10th grade (2011 – 2012 School Year) boy or girl.
Rules:
Must be a student of New Richmond School District.
Shoot baskets and record the number of baskets you shoot each day.
The most you can record each day is 200 shots.
Parents must sign the sheet to validate the number of shots taken by the student. This is on the honor

the parents cannot be there to watch this but ask that the kids be truthful in what they are recording.
Turning in recording sheets at the end of the year: totals can be faxed to 715-246-2021 or emailed to

Hold the ball with your fingertips. Your dominant hand should be on the bottom of the ball. Your
weak hand should be resting along the side of the ball.
Your feet should be shoulder width apart. Your shoulders should be square to the basket.
Your eyes should be fixed on the front of the rim.
Your elbow should be pointing straight ahead. Your palm should not touch the ball.
Your strong hand should release the ball with a back spin motion and your hand should follow
through as if you are waving good bye or putting your hand in the cookie jar.
Shoot the ball. Don’t push the ball.
Be sure you do not step forward with your set shot. Be sure to jump straight up and not forward on
your jump shot.
Always follow your shot.
Work on different shots.

Lay ups with both right and left hand. See how many you can make in one minute. Try to set some
goals for yourself.
Play games: 21, HORSE, Around the World, Lightening
Spot shoot: Take 10 shots from 10 different places.
Partner Shooting: One person shoots and the other rebounds and passes to you.
Free Throws: See what you can do best out of 10. Challenge yourself and don’t quit until you have
made your goal. Make sure and set realistic goals as well…..
Play one on one with some one else.
Avoid shots that are out of your range. If you shoot shots out of your range you
will develop bad habits and once it becomes a habit it is very hard to correct.
Practice shots that you may take in a game situation. By doing this you will
condition your brain and muscles to be ready for this when crunch time roles
around in the game.
Sloppy practice habits will NOT help you become a better basketball player. It
will actually make you worse then when you started.
