Performance and Innovation Leader
Purpose
The Performance and Innovation Leader is responsible for the delivery of the City of Marion’s innovation
and continuous improvement programs to ensure the organisation pursues its value of innovation and
aligns its resources and activities to deliver on the community vision and the organisation’s strategic
priorities. The position will work across the organisation to support work teams to maximize the value
they deliver to the community through innovation and improved efficiency and effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities and Outcomes
Strategic Leadership
•
Lead City of Marion’s innovation and continuous improvement program to ensure the
organisation pursues its value of innovation and aligns its resources and activities to deliver on
the community vision and the organisation’s strategic priorities.
•
Lead and champion the implementation and ongoing development of an innovative culture,
including continuous improvement, harnessing new ideas and pursuing change into business as
usual.
•
Develop and drive continual improvement initiatives that result in a measurable business and
community benefit.
•
Actively engage with other organisations and sectors that are delivering highly effective
Innovation and Business Improvement programs to build expertise and ongoing development for
City of Marion.
People Management
•
Provide positive and energetic leadership which engages, motivates and develops staff
•
Role model Council’s values of Respect, Integrity, Achievement and Innovation at all times and
foster a culture which “lives” the values with the community at the forefront of everything we do

Effectively communicate current activities and policies to individuals and teams

As a member of the Leadership Team collaborate effectively with all other Council areas and
participate in the strategic planning and leadership of the organisation

Influence and lead internal stakeholders to achieve the desired business improvement outcomes
Operational Leadership
•
Support the implementation of innovation systems and process
•
Develop continuous improvement processes, techniques and reporting tools and templates to be
used consistently across the organisation
•
Perform external analysis of industry best practices to inform business improvement initiatives
•
Assist work areas to undertake data analysis and reporting functions
•
Collect, consolidate and analyse program and project data to support effective planning, analysis,
decision making and risk management

Monitor and report on project outcomes to ensure accountability on delivery
•
Develop systems and build organizational capacity in assessing benefits realization
•
Develop reports and presentations for the Executive, Council and Finance and Audi Committee
•
Lead the team in fostering a culture that values Work Health and Safety (WHS).
•
Monitor and maintain so far as reasonably practicable a safe working environment.
