Purpose of job:
To provide safe, high quality education and care for Pre-School
children; to fulfil legal and statutory requirements; to supervise staff on a day to day
basis; to contribute to and implement Pre-School policies.
Main Duties:

To take responsibility for drawing up long term planning, following the EYFS
curriculum, and sessional plans which ensure that each child is working
towards Early Learning Goals; to monitor the effectiveness of the Pre-School
curriculum; to ensure current government guidelines and legislation, including
duties to safeguard and promote the welfare of children, are adhered to.

To be responsible for providing high quality experiences and opportunities,
ensuring that staff are properly deployed and offer appropriate stimulation and
support to the children.

To draw up and supervise the daily programme of Pre-School activities and
events.

To be responsible for implementing systems of observation and record
keeping so that children’s attainment and progress is effectively and regularly
assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures.

To organise the keyperson system and to supervise staff on a daily basis; to be
responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching; to undertake inductions for
new staff and participate in staff appraisals and to identify in-service training
needs; to ensure open two way communication with staff.

To ensure records are properly maintained e.g. daily attendance register,
accident and incident book.

To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the Pre-School and
its curriculum, teaching methods and practices; exchanging information about
children’s progress and encouraging parents’ involvement

To ensure that the Pre-School is a safe environment for children, that
equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, safety procedures are
implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised; to ensure
special needs of children are known.

To liaise with the Management Committee, Ofsted, Children’s Social Care and
other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory
requirements are implemented; to act as the Child Protection Liaison Person;
to provide reports and attend meetings as required.

To develop and implement all Pre-School policies and procedures, especially
those on equal opportunities.

To manage administrative duties associated with the role.

To attend in service training and meetings as required.

To run staff meetings.

To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the Chair of the
Committee in accordance with preschool objectives.

Pre-School Manager - Person Specification
Essential Criteria:














Experience of working in a pre-school setting
Diploma in pre-school practice NVQ level III or equivalent
Enhanced CRB
A good knowledge and understanding of EYFS
Sound understanding of child development and of children’s needs
Ability to plan and implement a pre-school curriculum
Ability to work with parents and encourage their involvement
Ability to lead a team of adults
Commitment to equal opportunities and understanding of religious and
cultural diversity
Ability to write clear reports
A willingness to obtain a Level 4 or higher qualification.
Good mental and physical health
Caring attitude with a sense of humour
Friendly, flexible approach
Desirable Criteria:





Experience of a parent managed/parent involved Pre-School
Experience in Early Years Foundation Units
Experience of Special Needs children
Paediatric First Aid Certificate
A level 4 qualification or above in early years education and childcare.
