RISK MATRIX QUESTION AND ANSWER SHEET What is the Risk Matrix? The risk matrix is a tool which exists as a menu option within Click and Go. What is it for? It’s for tracking and monitoring secondary pupils engagement with their curriculum. It is tool that allows early identification of potential difficulty. Why do we need it? To identify those young people who are at risk of becoming disaffected and disengaged during their time at secondary school and who are then at greater risk of failing to move into a positive destination post-16. How does it work? The Risk Matrix is part of SEEMIS and uses information that is already collated from data entry fields (17) and from fields that may require changing if relevant to the young person being tracked (8). The 25 fields receive a score based on the information that is held on SEEMIS and these scores are totalled to proved RAG information. How does it help the pupil? Allows for early identification and hence early intervention to take place to try and prevent the young person becoming any further removed from entering a positive destination post-16. How does it help the professionals? The Risk Matrix provides valid and robust quantitative data on our young people across Argyll and Bute rather than the anecdotal evidence we currently hold. The RAG score allows us to target existing staffing and resources to assist with helping and supporting those most at risk of disengaging. How does it improve what we are already doing? Allows for easier identification and hence earlier intervention – prevention rather than curing. Provides accurate robust and valid data on each cohort of young people in the Senior Phase. How much time will it take to use? You only have to enter data into a data field if you wish to change it. For each young people you would only need to change up to 8 data fields and then update the information as and when required. The 8 fields have already been populated with NO responses. Why, when, where and how will I use it? Why – to ensure you as a Guidance Teacher have robust and valid quantitative data on your guidance group. When – during/after contact with a member of your guidance group Where – during guidance interviews, meetings etc. How – by completing the data entry fields that are relevant to the young peoples circumstances that you have in front of you. What are you asking us to do now? Adopt the 16+ Learning Choices Data Management system: Start using the Risk Matrix menu option within Click and Go. Start using the official school leavers form. Complete the GIRFEC tab within the pupil’s record in Click and Go. Be mindful of the 16+ Learning Choices policy and practice framework and your responsibilities within this.
