Biology Monopoly Project
Purpose:
Students will demonstrate their understanding of a general
biology topic by incorporating their knowledge of
vocabulary and abstract processes to design an original
version of the popular board game monopoly.
Materials:
1 original game board, 2 dice, minimum 4 monopoly tokens
(place markers), 32 houses, 12 hotels, 16 chance cards, 16
community chest cards, 22 title deed cards for every
property, $15140 in monopoly money (can print from the
website below)
The Task:
Students will design and create an original game board for
monopoly focusing on a general biology topic. Students must
choose a topic such as evolution, cells, cell division,
ecosystems, photosynthesis, cell respiration, etc. and
generate a vocabulary list of relevant terms and
scientists. The teacher must approve the topic. They must
then use these terms as names for the properties, themes
for the chance and community chest cards, and as ideas for
designing the place markers, etc. Students will delegate
and divide the project responsibilities evenly among the
group members.
Groups:
Students will choose their own group of 3-4 students. Each
student will receive the same final grade, so make sure to
choose wisely and delegate responsibilities.
Presentation:
Each group will make a 3-5 minute presentation explaining
the theme of their game, and involving a creative and
original presentation of their final product. Possible
examples include: a game show, a commercial, a play, etc.
