Ozannes, one of Guernseys leading and longest established law firms, has opened its doors for
business in Jersey.
Having announced its intention to open a legal practice in Jersey earlier this year, it has become
the first Guernsey law firm to make the move across the water.
The new office, headed by recently appointed partner and Jersey Advocate Marcus Stone, is
initially concentrating on advising on the establishment of investment funds, securitization
structures, corporate banking, structured finance transactions, trusts and other areas of
corporate and commercial work.
The new office opening welcomes in a new era of cross-island co-operation for Ozannes, which
will see the firm employing the specialist skills available in both Islands offices working in close
co-operation. In fact, the offices in Jersey and Guernsey have already demonstrated how
successfully they can work together. They have just completed a complex, major real estate
financing deal worth 1 billion, in which Ozannes Jersey and Ozannes Guernsey acted together
for Barclays Capital and Sidley Austin.
Peter Harwood, who has recently been appointed Chairman of the Guernsey Financial Services
Commission, heads the Ozannes Corporate Team which includes team members Advocates
Gavin Farrell and David Moore, who have just been highly praised in the recently published
Legal 500 comments on Guernsey law firms for their commercial and legal skills.
Roger Perrot, senior partner of Ozannes, said: We are delighted to announce the opening of our
Jersey office. This is something which we have been planning for quite some time and it is a
very proud moment in Ozannes history. We are now able to offer a full corporate service to
existing and prospective clients and provide in Jersey, as in Guernsey, a one-stop shop to
clients, drawing upon the relevant expertise in both Islands.
The opening of the Jersey office marks a phenomenal year for Ozannes, who recently received
a huge endorsement for its offshore legal services at the 2006 Lawyer Awards.
Ozannes was the only Guernsey firm short listed in the Offshore Law Firm of the Year, 2006
category, and was placed second globally, ahead of all its Jersey rivals.
Perrot said: We really are having a phenomenal year, and it is immensely gratifying for that to
be recognised by the Lawyer awards. These are extremely exciting times in Ozannes
development and, with the opening of our Jersey office; we can now look forward to building
further on this years success.
