He was project manager for the multiple award winning Football and Community Scheme at Wimbledon FC for nine years. He now works as senior lecturer and course director at Kingston University (London) specialising in applied sports psychology, psychology of coaching,match analysis and coaching practice. He has delivered a variety of coach education workshops for Sportscoach UK. Jim is an accredited sports psychologist having provided support to international /elite athletes in football (e.g. Wimbledon FC, Charlton FC), athletics, rugby (London Welsh RFC), hockey(Surbiton HC),Gaelic football (Mayo senior mens team),golf, shooting, rowing, fencing and tennis. He is now advising Crystal Palace FC Academy re psychological aspects of player development and match analysis. He also works on a part time basis as an education advisor for the Football Association delivering courses and developing educational resources. Niall Clark MSc, BSc, PGCE, FA Fitness Trainer’s Award- fitness coach Niall has worked as the Head of Sports Medicine at Reading FC, West Ham FC and Charlton FC. He is also an FA qualified coach (A license holder) who has worked as a PE teacher and science teacher before joining Reading FC. He has worked with players all levels in soocer. Niall has published articles re fitness and soccer in a number of scientific journals. More recently he has provided consultancy services to Reading FC and lectures at two London universities specialising in physiology, training and conditioning and coaching practice. From August this year he will be acting as fitness consultant to a major Premier League club. Ernie Tippett -A Licence coach Ernie is a former youth team coach of Wimbledon FC. He spent over 10 years at the club and was an integral part of the club’s success in the Premier League. He helped develop the careers of Nigel Reo Coker, Jason Euell, Jobi McAnuff, Carl Cort, and Neal Ardley. All of these players went on to have successful careers in professional football. Ernie is now working as a scout for Bolton Wanderers FC reporting on senior players. 1 Workshop coordinator-Jim Lowther, Cloona, Ballina, Co. Mayo t: 096 22699 m (0044)7850014491 Workshop Date and Venue W1 Communication in sports coaching Friday 17th July 7pm-10pm This workshop will outline the key principles re communication in sports coaching and provide some practical recommendations for coaches to help improve their coaching sessions and coaching behaviours. The workshop will also explain examine confrontation and the use of constructive criticism in coaching. The workshop will focus both on grass roots sport/youth sport and elite sport. W2 Speed and agility(soccer) This workshop will consider both the theory (lecture) and applied examples of drills and practices to develop speed and agility for soccer. Demonstrations of appropriate practices and drills will take place outdoors using local players. The workshop content will be applicable to both young players (10-18 years) and senior players. Candidates can also participate in the practical session if they want to. Monday 20th July 8pm-10pm €10 Ballina Town FC, Belleek, Ballina Tutor-Niall Clark Candidates will be provided with session notes covering all the content of the workshop. W3 Soccer specific conditioning aerobic and anaerobic drills including warm-up and cool downs Tuesday 21st July 8pm-10pm Ballina Town FC, Belleek, Ballina Tutor-Niall Clark €10 W4 Defending principles(soccer) Wednesday 22nd July 8pm-10pm €10 This session will provide examples of basic drills and practices to improve players’ understanding and technical skills for defending .The session will conclude with a 9 v 9 game. Ballina Town FC, Belleek, Ballina Tutor-Ernie Tippett This workshop will consider both the theory and applied examples of drills and practices to develop stamina and speed endurance. The workshop will comprise of a short lecture and a practical demonstration outdoors using local players. The content will address age group differences re energy systems. The workshop content will be applicable to both young players (12-18 years) and senior players. Candidates can also participate in the practical session if they want to. Candidates will be provided with session notes covering all the content of the workshop. The workshop content will be applicable to both young players (11-18 years) and senior players. Candidates will be provided with session notes covering all the content of the workshop. W5 Motivation-creating the best environment for your athletes(all sports) This workshop will outline the key approaches to motivation theory and provide some practical recommendations for coaches to help improve their coaching sessions and coaching behaviours thus creating a better motivational climate for their athletes. Thursday 23rd July 7pm-10pm The Ox Room ,Ramada Hotel, Ballina €15 Tutor-Jim Lowther The workshop will focus both on grass roots sport/youth sport and elite sport. Candidates will be provided with session notes covering all the content of the workshop. W6 Nutrition and recovery(soccer) Friday 24th July 7pm-10pm This workshop will consider the theory, practical suggestions and give nutritional tips on pre (preparation) and post (recovery) game nutrition.
