You are the UKFF! More accurately: the members are the UKFF The UKFF is not: a Government department with a building full of people and big budget. UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 4 NEW UKFF ORGANISATION STRUCTURE • Current problem – – – – League Directors do almost all of the work running a league which too much for 1 Few people want to be a League Director Few people feel they have the knowledge to run a whole league Little time left to organise refereeing and coaching courses etc. • What is needed – Dividing the work into many, small roles (1 person/role) – Re-use of material and sharing expertise between regional leagues (e.g. a lot of time can be saved if the same material is re-used in every adult league) • The solution is ‘matrix management’ – League teams will be asked to a volunteer who will receive free UKFF membership saving £35 per person – Volunteers will each take on 1 small role roles e.g. to organise fixtures, refs, money etc. – The Director and the volunteers together decide how the league is run e.g. dates UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 5 In Your Region… If you are not happy with how things work in your region If you don’t want to pay £35 annual membership If you want a say in how the league is run …then please come forward and volunteer for one of the roles UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 6 Stating the Obvious! • If there are no volunteers then there will be – No national team training sessions or friendlies • Mens, U19s, Ladies – No one to answer questions to the Central Committee – Little forward progress for the UKFF UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 7 The New Matrix Organisation UKFF CENTRAL COMMITTEE President Chairman A REGIONAL LEAGUE COMMITTEE Counties Youth League Fixtures/Ref’ing Child Safety Finances Membership Hall dates League Director Scotland Fixtures Refereeing Finances Membership Coaching League Director Midlands Fixtures Refereeing Finances Membership Coaching League Director South Fixtures Refereeing Finances Membership Coaching National Teams Manager Mens Coach Womens Coach Finance Director Marketing & Dev. Information Technology Company Secretary General Secretary • A lot more positions, a lot less work for each person • League Directors manage the teams & are a single point of contact e.g. attending Central Committee conf calls UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 8 UKFF Central Committee Roles The same applies: free membership, have a say in what the UKFF does President • • • • • Strategic Planning & Execution IFF & Sports England Liaison Board Updates Communications Funding Chairman • • • • • Strategic Planning & Execution Operational Management Divisions & Clubs Support National Teams Support Administrative Support National Teams Manager • • Manage National teams Develop National teams Men’s National Coach • • • Plan & run training session Selection of players Coaching during matches IT • Control of external contractors for website etc. General Secretary • Support of other committee members UKFF AGM 26th June 2016 London 9 EFFECTIVE RESIGNATIONS • Rule for this discussion: let’s not get personal! • The problem – – – – Sometimes UKFF volunteers stop working & even responding to emails Often caused by a change in circumstances since they were elected People outside the Committee assume progress is being made in this responsibility area In fact nothing is happening, and so UKFF members get rightly frustrated • The solution – The Committee will call inactive members discuss the lack of work & whether they wish to continue – If this doesn’t work, they will be emailed within 2 weeks of phone contact – If this doesn’t work, they will be emailed again within a further 2 weeks; a final warning – If this doesn’t work, they will be emailed again to tell them the UKFF believes that they have effectively resigned • Afterwards – The new vacancy will be advertised without waiting for the next AGM UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 London 10 Website • New website implemented cost £2600 – Floorball info – Adult league statistics • Generally looks good and works well • However some serious issues with registrations and map of teams • The external web development contractor is not responding to emails/phone calls • Ondrej is getting quotes for a new company to take over maintenance of the website, expected bill over £1000 UKFF AGM 26th June 2016 London 11 Insurance Issues Public Liability Insurance (PLI) • Required by venues to protect them against claims (excluding negligence) Employers Liability Insurance (ELI) • To protect the UKFF and officials from claims The UKFF does not provide any insurance to protect players from injuries or loss of earnings The UKFF insurance covers 390 events/year and so does not cover club training sessions, currently costs about £2800 We recommend that players obtain their own personal accident insurance Do you want us to investigate bulk purchase of insurance? Additional fee required if used. UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 12 SOUTH LEAGUE 2016-17 - 11 teams participating compared to 7 teams last year! - 3 new teams entering SNL for the first time - New 2nd Division launched, with 5 teams entering - Cost saving for teams on tournament fees - South League turned a small profit, meaning costs are neither too high or too low & leaving a little investment available for future development ALL IN ALL, A GOOD SEASON! UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 13 SOUTH LEAGUE 2017-18 Top priority for 2017-18 is to improve standard of ref’ing With help from experienced players in the area, intention is to: • Seek out any qualified non-playing refs to help referee some games in return for expenses • Look to organise a refereeing course in the region and encourage as many teams to attend as possible • To raise the standard of ref’ing in the region to positively impact the standard of play, and enforce the ethos of friendly competition • To consider what changes can be made to the current structure to ensure all matches are well ref’d, and to encourage teams to participate fully in making the league the home of top quality Floorball UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 14 MIDLANDS LEAGUE 2016-17 - Brand new venue – St George’s Park - Much better atmosphere and nicer surface to play on - More expensive and harder to get to - 9 teams participating compared to 15 teams last year - Not counting Norwich, who seemed enthusiastic to start but only turned up to one tournament - Lack of teams probably due to venue change and cost increase - Playing standard increased on average - Mainly at lower end of the league. - Not much competition for the higher teams UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 15 MIDLANDS LEAGUE 2016-17 - Refereeing standard still an issue - Targeted regional courses might be easier to fill - Made a loss this year - Tried to keep costs to minimum - Too few teams to cover costs and not increase fees too much - Something will need to change here next year UKFF AGM 10th June 2017 16 RECRE LEAGUE 2016-17 - Also at a new venue - Cotswolds - Cheap but not easy to access, especially for London teams - Potential to host some at Newbold College next year - Always hard to organise around university term dates and all other tournaments - Large number of potential teams are Uni teams - League covers costs even when only a few teams play - Always played in a friendly inclusive spirit!
