It is responsible for the management and development of the sport from grass roots to elite activities. The England Hockey Single System – the Player Pathway is an integral part of EH’s holistic talent development strategy. Its aims are to provide the best possible talent development environments for all players to achieve their potential. To support the delivery of the regional element of the pathway, EH is seeking expressions of interest for Tier 2 Lead and Assistant coaches. EH’s vision is to become a ‘Nation where Hockey matters’ through “providing inspirational leadership for all to fulfil their potential”. The current focus for the organisation is delivery of its 5 objectives within the 2013 -2017 strategic plan: Growth in participation - Increase the number of people participating in hockey to ensure a vibrant and secure future for the sport International success - Continue to raise the performance bar of athlete and coach development to maintain world level standards and create positive role models for the sport Increased visibility - Deliver high profile quality domestic and international events that attract increased spectator numbers, TV coverage, and sponsorship Enhanced infrastructure - Enhance the playing experience by improving facilities, coaching, officiating and the support to volunteers, clubs and all our stakeholders A strong and respected NGB - Continue to maintain high governance standards and diversify sources of income to reduce reliance on grants Page 1 of 4 Futures Cup Team Manager WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR: TEAM MANAGER The Team Manager will be responsible for the welfare of players and coaches in their squad throughout Futures Cup, including the training days. Team Managers will be responsible for all ‘off pitch’ areas and communication between the Event Manager and the coach and players. The Team Manager will work to ensure that the player experience is positive, safe and well managed. STANDARDS OF SERVICE REQUIRED The Team Manager is the key point of contact for all players and their duties and responsibilities will include: Being ‘in loco parentis’ for young players whilst at the Futures Cup. Working with young players and be responsible for their welfare and protection. Being responsible for the behaviour and conduct of all the players in their team, both on and off the pitch. Being the first point of contact for any young player’s concerns and know to act on them. Briefing players on their programme and ensure punctuality at all times. Ensuring a safe training and playing environment is maintained at all times. Assisting in creating a performance environment and culture. Liaison with the coach to ensure the smooth running of the programme. Having an understanding of the needs of elite young hockey players and the importance of the player pathway. Being part of the welfare team at the Futures Cup. Offer a positive role model for players and staff. Assist in the distribution of team kit and equipment. Having effective communication skills, both written and oral. Pre-Tournament From appointment, administer the affairs of their squad. This will involve liaising with the Event Manager in all matters concerning the registration and disseminating information to the squad and the squad management team. Templates for call up letters will be provided by England Hockey. Informing the squad of all call up details for training on Sunday 11th & 25th October including confirming bookings for pitch and notification to all concerned of times/venues etc. Devising a rooming list with the Event Manager once the squad is known. Be responsible for collecting all training fees. Collate all player payments for the tournament (cheques made payable to England Hockey). Collate a signed consent form from the EH Online System from each young player selected for the tournament/training. Issue the squad kit to young players and ensure it’s returned at end of tournament. Be responsible for collating talent ID information for the England Hockey Performance Unit. Be responsible for liaising with the coach on the event schedule for the squad. Your team schedule will be provided by England Hockey. During Tournament Briefing the players on their programme, including playing /training schedule, meal times, lights out policy, transport arrangements, behavior during tournament, expectations etc. Page 2 of 4 Futures Cup Team Manager Register all young players on their arrival at the hotel and be responsible for the distribution of room keys in line with the supplied rooming list. Arrange for all management team to have a sign on their door so that young players know which room they are in. Make sure a copy of your squad’s consent forms are available to your management team at all times and that these details are secure i.e. in the immediate possession of a member of your Management Team. Pass a copy of all consent forms and all player payments to the Event Manager at the initial Welfare Briefing (Wednesday evening – exact time tbc). Attend the Tournament Director briefing (Wednesday evening – exact time tbc). A signed copy of your team sheet must be submitted with your final 18 players on it. Attend any other meetings during the tournament as prescribed by the Tournament Director, Event Manager or Welfare Manager. Check all players on to and off event transport for every journey. Hand in a team sheet with your starting 11 players and 2 players who will not be playing if U18, 30 mins before each match to the Tournament Office. Make arrangements for the two young athletes each game who will not participate to be supervised at all times. Check your team pigeon hole on arrival and before departing from the venue. This will be in the event office. Ensure all young athletes are in their rooms and the lights are out by 10:30pm. Check all players’ rooms daily to make sure they are tidy and clean. Be available as part of the Rapid Response Team if there is a welfare issue involving one of the young athletes in their team. Have a thorough understanding of the Tournament Regulations and make sure that all players and coaches abide by them. Ensure player Match Time Sheets are handed to the event office before leaving the competition site for the day The Team Manager will also share with all colleagues the responsibility for: Complying with all aspects of England Hockey’s Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Hockey Policy, Procedure and Good Practice Guidance (SafeD – www.englandhockey.co.uk/safe) Complying with all aspects of England Hockey’s Health and Safety Policy and Arrangements. Safeguarding and protecting the players in their care as outlined in the Welfare Plan. Abiding by the England Hockey’s Code of Conduct. To be an ambassador for England Hockey at all times. Being sponsor sensitive in terms of kit and clothing. Protection of sensitive data for the young players at Futures Cup. Qualities and Skills for both roles are likely to include: Well-developed liaison, interpersonal and people management skills. Strong communicator, able to clearly and accurately disseminate information, both written and spoken. High level of negotiation and influencing skills. Proven administration skills. The ability to attain excellence from players, coaches, staff and all stakeholders through the establishment of a ‘development’ culture. Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement, observe confidentiality and use discretion and initiative. Excellent observational and analytical skills. Have completed an enhanced DBS (formerly CRB) check through England Hockey (must be current, within three years). Have attended a scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Sport workshop within the last three years. Have a First Aid Qualification (must be current, within three years). Have evidence of work within the Single System-The Player Pathway and/or coaching pathway. Have experience of managing young people in sport and accompanying groups on residential trips. Have an understanding of the issues affecting young people and the sensitive way in which this must be managed. Be young person focused and able to plan, empathise and communicate effectively with players, coaches and volunteers. Have an understanding and appreciation of the need to respect confidentiality. Be able to follow procedures and, recognise when to seek advice and not rely solely on own judgment Appropriately challenge those that do not comply with the welfare plan.
