DAC – would also like a few volunteers to come work with some of their clients. Just spend some time getting to know them, sharing your reading skills or spending entertaining time together. BINGO CALLER! This would be a fun time for 1 or 2 volunteers to help out Marvel Woizeschke and give her a much needed break with her weekly calling at both Hardees on Wednesday afternoons at 4:00 pm and at the Senior Center in Windom on Mondays at 1:00 pm. (Preferably a women to call at the Senior Center). Shalom Hill Farm – volunteers are needed to help out with many different projects that are always on-going at the Farm! You can help with serving food at different retreats, helping with the gardening and yard work, or even helping with making food from the gardens. Volunteer Station:___________________________________ Date/Hours Served:__________________________________ Volunteer Station:___________________________________ Date/Hours Served:__________________________________ Signature:_________________________________________ New Programs will be available through A.C.E. of Cottonwood County Since last fall, I have been attending quite a few trainings in preparation for setting up many new classes. I started with Matter of Balance which we were successfully able to run in Mt. Lake last fall and I will be setting that up to run another this year in Windom. I also trained to be able to help people with Caregiver Respite and Counseling Services so I will be working to get the word out about that. A new program that I feel excited to bring to Cottonwood County is the Dementia Friendly Grant that will make our communities more Dementia aware. You will be hearing a lot about this in the future and I may be calling on some of you to become a part of this. We will be holding another Healthy Living – Chronic Disease SelfManagement Class this year too. We held a class last summer here at BARC with a great group of participants and we all learned a lot. I am looking forward to holding these classes/services and will let you know when I have them set so keep an eye out for future notices. Telephone Reassurance The ‘Good Morning’ Telephone Reassurance program is for Cottonwood County residents, 60 years of age or older that may be at risk of sudden illness, falls, accidents or social isolation. Each morning between 8:00 am and 10:00 am the older adult will receive a call from a trained A.C.E. volunteer to check that he or she is okay. If you are interested in helping to assure the well-being of others and willing to commit to making calls from your home, have good organizational skills and phone etiquette, and are able to follow procedures in an emergency, then we are looking for you! If you would like to participate, you just need to contact me at 507-831-1803. 2016 Volunteer Appreciation Event We are switching this year’s event to be held this spring instead of the fall. This year we will be holding a coffee with treats here in the BARC Library. It will start at 3:30 in the afternoon in hopes that more volunteers will be able to attend. You will receive an invite in the mail as the date gets closer, but save the date: Tuesday May 24th. Quote from current Telephone Reassurance volunteer: ‘Being responsible for making this daily call gives me a reason to get out of bed in the morning.’ Readers Theater Alzheimer's is not a normal part of aging. Counting Volunteer Hours Remember to record all hours you volunteer. Round up if you are at the half hour and remember to add your ‘drive time’ into your total hours volunteered. I have had a couple requests to bring back this fun program. If anyone is interested in taking part in reading stories/skits to kids in our local schools, please let me know and we will see if we can make this possible. Bring a friend to do this with you! (And YES, there will be door prizes!) “The heart of a volunteer is not measured in size, but by the depth of the commitment to make a difference in the lives of others.” DeAnn Hollis
