Panthers One Win Away From BSAL Championship

Panthers One Win Away From BSAL Championship
May 2nd
After registering two impressive wins over league rivals Piedmont and St.
Joseph’s in a re-scheduled Monday meet, both boys and girls teams are now one
win away from recording yet another league championship title. For the boys,
they are on the verge of their 25th straight league championship… dating back to
Coach Lawson’s inaugural 1987 campaign. For the girls, another league title
would make 13 of the past 15 championships.
In scoring their 84-33 and 83-31 victories over Piedmont and St. Joe’s
respectively, several boys stood out. Senior Chance Moses signaled his return to
action with a victory in the 400 meters (50.57). Likewise,
Ali Roosevelt won the 100 meters, James Carter won the
triple jump (with a lifetime best 42’11”), Austin Collier
leaped to a 21’7” win in the long jump, and freshman
Harold Terrell continued his climb towards the 6 foot
barrier with a nice 5’10” high jump…. also good for first.
Finally, a trio of weight men solidified this team victory
with an impressive sweep of both throwing events. The
trio of Nick Callendar, Humberto Palafox, and Robert
Clinton combined to shut out both the Highlanders and
the Pilots and secure the convincing win for the Panthers.
Like the boys, the girls got huge points in the field,
Senior Chance Moses
where a sweep of the discus by Jasmine Nudanu, Patricia Gruca and Sara
Wemmer combined with a 1-2 finish by Jade Hodge and Janna Bermudez in the
high jump sealed the victory for the Panthers. Wins by senior Annie Woelffer in
the 200 meters, freshman Carly Schulz in the 300 hurdles, and a double victory
by freshman Spencer Moore in the 1600 and 800 meters led to the dominant 78 –
31 and 93 – 7 wins over Piedmont and St. Joe’s.
Next up for the Panthers will be the regular season finale against rival Albany.
The meet will be on Thursday at Albany @ 3:30. Come out and support the
Panthers in their quest to add yet another league championship banner to the
rafters. Go Panthers!
