June 19, 2015 Peacock Tornado Football Players: Fall camp begins on Thursday, August 20th. We will have a team fundraiser at the Hillcrest Golf Course starting at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 13th. The managers will call you to remind you about the tournament. We need 30 people to commit to the golf tournament. We are in need of new uniforms this season and next season. To help offset those costs we will also run another fundraiser for two weeks at the start of this season. We will be selling Tornado Football 'Gold Card' discount coupon cards which give buyers instant payback and major discounts at local businesses. Players will be required to sell 15 cards and are $20.00 each. Line up sales with neighbors and relatives now to sell cards to them in August. We will be getting the cards after practice on Saturday, August 22nd and will finish with a team selling blitz after practice on Saturday, September 5th at 12:00 p.m. Practice will begin on Thursday, August 20th with registration at 2:00 p.m. in the gym. We will test your bench press, 30 yd sprint time and 1 mile timed fitness run at 2:30 p.m. Equipment (practice pants, thigh pads, knee pads, girdle and pads) will be issued after athletic testing. We will start full practices on Friday, August 21st at 3:35 p.m. We need seven solid practices before our controlled scrimmages on Friday, August 28th in Saskatoon versus Tommy Douglas and two other Saskatoon league high schools. The cost to play football at Peacock Collegiate this season will be $250.00. In polling the players from last season you preferred to have all fees included at one time. $10.00 $30.00 $10.00 $70.00 $30.00 $60.00 $20.00 $20.00 - MJHSAA Registration Fee - Team T-shirt, Mouth Guard and Belt (Yours to keep) - Peacock Uniform Replacement Fee - Uniform (Game Socks, Practice Jerseys, Decals) and Equipment (Collars, Chin Straps, Field Equipment, Training Supplies) - Referee Costs for Exhibition Games, Miscellaneous Costs (Practice Balls, Training Supplies, Team Emergencies, Cleaning/ Laundry Supplies, etc.) - Team Suppers and Sub Sandwiches for Road Trips (Approximately 8 Team Meals and 2 Road Trip Lunches) - Two charter bus trips to Swift Current and Estevan - Team and Individual Player Picture Team fees are due by Tuesday, September 1st. Player fees must be paid by this date to be eligible for our first league game. A postdated cheque can be used. Please date postdated cheques for October 1, 2015. Seven season tickets at $7.00 each ($49.00) will be issued to each player. We encourage you and your family members, relatives, neighbours, friends, etc. to use these season tickets to attend our league games. You keep all money generated from selling your own season tickets. We feel that this fee is reasonable in comparison to Regina and Moose Jaw minor football that charge $200.00 - $250.00. The Moose Jaw league schedule is attached. We will travel to Swift Current and Estevan this season for our league games. Our first league game will be Thursday, September 3rd vs. Swift Current at 4:00 p.m. We will play an exhibition game on Friday, September 18th at 4:00 p.m. versus the Saskatoon Centennial Chargers at Gutheridge Field. The Tornado Grade 9 and10’s will host our own jamboree on Saturday, September 19th at 1:00 p.m. at Gutheridge Field. Teams involved in the jamboree are North Battleford, Saskatoon Tommy Douglas, Prince Albert St. Mary’s and Prince Albert Carlton. The Tornado Grade 9 and10’s will travel to Prince Albert on Tuesday, September 29th to play Prince Albert St. Mary’s and Prince Albert Carlton in a mini jamboree as well. The winner of the Moose Jaw league will travel to play the Regina league winner on Saturday, November 7th. The winner of that game will travel to Saskatoon to play the winner of the Saskatoon league in the Provincial final on November 14th. With a lot of hard work we want to set our team up to challenge for the Provincial title. Make sure you keep the game weekends and weekdays open. Arrange your work around football games and practices. “You have your whole life after high school to work, but you can only play high school football for four years.” Have the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association (yellow) form signed by your parents and yourself for Thursday, August 21st. A medical is recommended but not mandatory to play high school football in the Moose Jaw league. If you know of any new students to Peacock or other students that should be playing encourage them to try out. I hope you have a good and active summer. The coaches are looking forward to seeing you in shape and ready to play on August 21st. Sincerely, Coach Buettner Peacock Tornadoes Fall Camp Schedule: Thursday, August 13 Fine Foods Golf Tournament Fundraiser at the Hillcrest – 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 20 Registration: 2:00 p.m. Athletic Testing: 2:30 p.m. in the gym Equipment: 3:30 p.m. Friday, August 21 Practice at 3:35 p.m. Saturday, August 22 Practice at 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Explanation and distribution of Tornado Football 'Gold Card' discount coupon cards. The same coaching staff will be back this year. There is a great deal of experience and dedication with our coaches and we hope high school football will be a very enjoyable and worthwhile experience for your son. We expect our players to have great attendance at school and on the practice field. We expect our players to attend all team functions. The players and coaches have organized a list of guidelines for playing football at Peacock and good citizenship and attendance is a high priority for our players and coaches. Players should only be missing practice for illness and family emergencies. If your son is absent from school, or needs to miss a practice, please phone into the main office and leave a message with the secretary. Please tell the secretaries to let Mr. Buettner know that your son is missing practice and the reason. The winner of that game will travel to Saskatoon to play the winner of the Saskatoon league in the Provincial final on November 14th. We are a Senior High School Team and we work hard to develop our program. Our goal is to try and put the most competitive team on the field for league games and playoffs. As coaches we want players and parents to understand that decisions regarding playing time are made by the coaches with this philosophy in mind. A grade 10 can take the place of a grade 11 or 12 and vice versa. Attendance, effort and skill are important parts of being successful on the team. We work very hard to schedule additional games to allow our younger players to gain some game experience. Please return the enclosed player/ parent permission (orange) form with your team registration fee. A medical is recommended but not mandatory to play high school football in Moose Jaw. A MJHSAA registration form is included (yellow). It needs to be filled out on both sides by a parent/ guardian and your son/ daughter for our first practice on Thursday, August 21st. *An amateur football states that players can only wear clear visors on their helmets. Tinted visors are not allowed under any circumstance. Team suppers are arranged by a parent’s group who phone volunteers to help. A parent will likely be contacting you sometime in the future. It is great if everybody takes a turn contributing/ helping out with team suppers. I would like to extend an invitation to you on behalf of the coaches, to attend practice(s) at any time at our practice facility at Memorial Field at 301 Caribou Street East. We welcome you to watch practice and talk to the coaches any time after practice. Included with this letter are a fall camp itinerary and a schedule for our season. We look forward to your support in the upcoming season. Your son/daughter also has a player letter which is specific to them. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at Peacock at 693-4626.
