Main Purpose of Job
Ardgowan and Fort Matilda Tennis Clubs are looking to appoint a tennis coach to work across both
venues to manage, organise and deliver the coaching programme, increase membership across all
categories, mentor and recruit a team of assistant coaches and form links to school and community
programmes in line with pre agreed targets.
Position in Organisation
The successful candidate will be appointed on a self-employed by Ardgowan and Fort Matilda Tennis
Clubs; will receive support from Active Schools/Sports Development team and will report to the project
Steering Committee comprising two members from each tennis club, a representative from Tennis
Scotland and one from Active Schools Sports Development.
Scope of Job
Ardgowan and Fort Matilda Tennis Clubs aim to provide tennis activities to all categories of membership:

Ensuring there are more and higher quality opportunities to participate in tennis through social,
competitive and coaching activities and regular programmes and other initiatives..

Building capacity through the recruitment, retention and development of a team of tennis
coaches to aid deliver of the tennis programme.

Increasing membership in a friendly welcoming club environment.

Delivering a high standard of professionalism and customer service to all users on well kept,
good quality facilities.
Dimensions and Limits of Authority

Work closely with Steering Group and its representatives to ensure the priorities and outcomes
of the Head Coach & Development Officer development plan are achieved.

Recruit and support coaches and volunteers and ensure ongoing training opportunities.

Work closely with Active Schools/Sports Development to support and enhance school tennis
and community programmes and develop pathways to club participation and membership.
Duties and Key Responsibilities:
Head Coach and Development Officer will:

Provide core group coaching to tots, mini tennis red, orange, green, yellow ball juniors and
adults.

Plan, programme and promote all club activities to membership and local community.

Increase the number of core groups at all levels and implement a pathway throughout the age
groups.

Recruit, mentor and train a team of assistant coaches to support all tennis activity at the clubs in
line with the LTA coaching structure.

Increase membership levels in all categories in line with targets set out in development plan.

Act as the first point of contact for all membership enquiries.

Lead in the organisation of junior teams at all age levels and assist senior team captains with
teams.

Deliver a minimum of 2 social events/open days at each venue per year.

Deliver a minimum of 3 junior tournaments to each age group per year.

Attend quarterly Steering Group meetings and regularly provide updated development plans.

Attend appropriate school taster sessions and festivals as part of Active Schools/Sports
Development tennis programme.

Develop and enhance Active Schools/Sports Development schools tennis and community
programme.

Qualifications & attainments
Essential

LTA Licensed Level 3 (or currently undertaking level 3) coach or equivalent.

PVG required.
Desirable

Full and valid driving licence and access to transport.

Qualities and experience required

Experience in delivering tennis programmes and sessions as a lead coach from mini tennis through
to adult coaching.

Experience in organising and running mini tennis and junior tournaments, social events and open
days.

Experience of working with and reporting to tennis committees and/or volunteer organisations.

Clearly demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the priorities and outcomes of a tennis club.

Extensive experience of engaging with children, young people, adults and volunteers within the
tennis industry and with the general business community.

Proven project management experience.

Proven track record of increasing tennis activity and membership in a club or community setting
against a set of targets.

Knowledge and experience of financial management.

Experience of developing and managing assistant coaches.

Experience of the primary and secondary curriculum and working in a school environment.

Experience in promotion of tennis in the local community and through social media.

Experience of tennis planning or knowledge of strategic sports development planning.
