Registration & Team Information
All teams must arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to their first game in order to sign sport waivers
and to sign in.
Students MUST present their student cards to the convenor at every game.
A team may add players up to the second week - we encourage you to carry many players!!
If a team wishes to file a protest it must in done in writing and within 24 hours of the incident
otherwise it will be declared void ([email protected])
Players are allowed to play on a competitive team or a recreational team. Players are not permitted to
play for both a competitive team and a recreational team.
If a team uses an ineligible player that team and player may be suspended from both leagues and lose
50% their performance bond. Any changes to the team lists must be done by your second play date.
A maximum of 1 Alumni or staff (with a valid T.C.S.R.C. membership) are allowed on a team.
Current varsity basketball players are not eligible to play in this league.
All league teams must purchase numbered t-shirts. Please select team names and logos which are
appropriate. The Department of Athletics and Recreation has the right to restrict use of inappropriate
names and/or logos.
The Basketball League is designated OPEN. There are no gender requirements for game play.
A team may have as few as 4 players (to start) a game and as many players as 5 on the court at once.
There is a 10minute grace period before a default is called (extra time will not be added to game time if
there is a delay).
Exception: if both captains agree that a team can play with less than the minimum required the score will
count and the game can be played. If an agreement cannot be reached then a default will be declared.
If a team cannot meet these requirements the game will be declared a default.
A default results in a 2-0 win for the team that is able to play. The Spirit Score for a default is 5-1 for the
team that is able to play.
Teams will keep their own score. Captains will report the final Score and Spirit Score to the League
Convenor at the end of the game.
Play Offs & Player Eligibility
Play Off Eligibility: You must play 50% of regular season games to be eligible for playoffs, grail points
and Campus Rec prizes.
Teams must have an overall Spirit Ranking of 3 or higher in order to be eligible for play offs.
We reward Participation!!! A win = 3 points, a tie = 2 points, a loss = 1 point and a default = 0 points.
Standings and points are tracked by the convenor, and will be sent to captains each week by email.
The format is 5 league games and 1 night of playoffs.
For playoff berths and season ending statistics, a tie in the standings will be decided on head to head
competition. If the head to head was split, then the season win/loss record will be used. If the teams are
still tied, then points for and against will apply. Failing that, a sudden death playoff game will be
scheduled.
For playoff games, in the event of a tie at the end of the allotted game time, a five minute sudden death
overtime period will be played. If a tie still remains, each team will select 5 players for a shootout.

If a tie remains after each group of 5 has shot, then a sudden death shootout round continues with all
players from each team participating. The original 5 shooters only get to shoot again after all other team
members have taken a shot - in line with our Campus Rec philosophy of participation. Sudden death
continues in this player order until one team is declared victorious.
Defaults & Bond Information
Performance bonds can be picked up two weeks after the league ends. Teams are penalized 50% of their
performance bond for each infraction: defaults, not attending the captains meeting, and for contravening
the Fair Play Principles.
Defaults cost money and frustrate committed participants, if you know in advance you will not
have enough players, contact the CONVENOR or Campus Rec office ([email protected])
asap. Your team will then take the loss, but not be penalized your bond. If a team defaults one set
of matches they will lost 50% of their bond. Two defaults and they may be removed from the
league. Two defaults will cost the team their $40 performance bond.
Rules & Game
The Rules from the Handbook of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials will
apply with the following changes. A copy of this book is available to view, please see your convenor.
Players must remove ALL jewelry, including rings and watches. No exposed body piercing
permitted. Remove all piercings. Taping over piercings is not permitted.
There is no dunking.
(Referee and Convenor Discretion): When a team is leading by 20 or more points they may not defend a
player on the opposing team until the player is over half court (i.e.: no full court press).
In the event of a tie a 3 minute overtime period will be played. After 3 minutes if a tie remains, it will be
recorded as such.
The game will be played as follows:
o 1st half-25minutes run time
o 2nd half- 20 minutes run time [with the last 5 minutes on stop time if the point spread is within
10].
Professional Referees will be provided for all Competitive Basketball games. Please respect their
decisions and calls. Fair Play permits zero tolerance for abuse of officials.
Play Safe & Play Sober
Keep yourself and your teammates safe. Players who are or appear to be under the influence of alcohol
and/or drugs will be asked to leave. Players under the influence put themselves and others at risk. Please
do not allow your teammates to play unless they are Safe and Sober.
