Southwestern Michigan Swim League (SWMSL):
Tigershark Aquatics participates in the Southwestern Michigan Swim League. This league is more than
30 years old and includes Trojan Aquatic Club (Plainwell), Rams Aquatic Club (South Haven), Otsego Swim
Club, Hastings Swim Club, Mattawan Community Aquatic Team, and Bridgman Swim Club. Dual meets are
typically about 2-3 hours long. This league is very good for developmental swimmers who are starting to
explore competitive swimming.

USA Swimming:
ATAC has developed a partnership with Portage Aquatic Club that allows Tigershark swimmers to register for
USA Swimming through the PAC club. USA-S meets are typically much larger, with many more teams and athletes and
have a much broader range of ability levels from beginning swimmers up to national level competitors. They are usually
arranged so that each swimmer could participate in up to three separate sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday
depending on the family’s preference. These are great meets for kids to get a sense of the broad opportunities that are
available to them in the sport of swimming.
If you are interested, you will need to submit a USA-S Athlete Registration Form (no payment) to Coach Mark.
He will submit it to PAC and you will receive confirmation and payment information from them. Meet entry
information, warm up and meet times and directions will be available through the PAC website/ email list. You compete
with other swimmers your age, which is determined by the first day of the meet.
Sometimes there are conflicts with SWMSL meets on USA-S meet weekends. When this is the case, it is usually
preferred that swimmers attend the SWMSL meet on Saturday and the USA-S meet on Friday and/or Sunday. However,
if the coaching staff determines that a swimmer would be better served by swimming events offered at the USA-S meet,
they will be allowed to forgo competing in the SWMSL meet.
*This year, we will offer a USA-S “Approved” meet in December to the entire club. An approved meet means
that anyone is allowed to participate (even if you are not registered for USA-S), but the times will still count for
registered USA-S swimmers. We hope that swimmers will try this out as an introduction to USA-S Swimming.
USA-S also offers a broader range of championship meets. Within the State, swimmers have the opportunity to
compete in 3 different levels of championships, with progressively harder qualification times. Outside of the State,
swimmers who make the qualifying times can compete in the Speedo Sectional Series (a multi-state regional
competition), Junior Nationals or Senior Nationals.
