For Immediate Release 2013 Second Highest Attended Year at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium® Omaha, NE (January 13, 2014) – Zoo attendance surpassed most previous years’ attendance in 2013 with a total attendance of 1,608,349. Two of the twelve months in 2013 were record setting: January and June. The Education Department offered 955 programs which include classes, day camps, campouts, family programing, scout classes and outreaches. Over 38,000 kids and adults took part in these educational experiences. The record breaking year can be attributed to customer upgrades and enhancements including the digital video board spanning across the Ticket Redemption Gate, a new and expanded gift shop, 1,000 additional parking spaces, a new entrance sign and bus drop-off area. The temporary exhibition, Dinosaurs Alive! The Lost Valley, was also visited by more than 270,000 guests from April 12 through October 13 and the Scott Aquarium was open for its first full year since renovation. Significant births such as five African lion cubs, fossa, pygmy hippo and penguin chicks, pleasant weather throughout the year and the ranking by TripAdvisor naming Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium the #1 Zoo in the country also drove guests to the Zoo this year.
