Job Description Job Title: Regional Development Manager Reporting to: Operations Manager, Hockey Manawatu Incorporated (HMI) Key Relationships HMI Board, HMI Staff, Central Hockey, Hockey New Zealand, HMI Clubs, HMI Junior Council, HMI Umpire Council, Sport Manawatu, Representative Coaches Hours of work: Full time preferred but hours are negotiable (flexibility in hours required as evening and weekend work will be required) Location: Hockey Manawatu, Twin Turfs, Palmerston North Purpose of the Role The Regional Development Manager (RDM) will be responsible for the effective planning, implementation, and delivery of a community hockey programme within the Manawatu region. The RDM will effectively be the face of Hockey for HMI, working alongside key stakeholders, clubs, schools, and Central Hockey to: Grow and sustain participation (players, coaches, umpires & volunteers) Foster local talent by strengthening the delivery structure for players, volunteers, coaches, and umpires Improve capacity and capability to deliver (Association, Club, and schools) Main Objectives To deliver community hockey programmes that provide opportunities for all participants, coaches, umpires, and volunteers at all levels To establish strong relationships within the hockey community and develop an inclusive community hockey culture within the Manawatu region by demonstrating the organisational core values To enable the longer term development of hockey within Manawatu, including the delivery of participation programmes, Coach Development, Umpire & Officials Development, and strengthening the capability including clubs, schools, and volunteers Key Tasks 1. Overview a) Deliver HMI and HNZ development strategies for increasing participation, strengthening delivery structure, and strengthening regional capability b) Establish effective relationships with all key stakeholders and effectively communicate HNZ and Central Hockey regional development initiatives c) Maintain database of all participants involved in the regional programmes d) Support the Operations Manager to develop quality strategies for the region that closely align with the HMI strategic plan 2. Player Development a) Develop and implement a clear pathway for player development from the junior hockey stage to high performance b) Develop and implement a robust but transparent selection process for rep teams c) Develop, implement, and monitor player benchmarks (tactical & technical skills, and fitness levels relevant to age and stage of development) for those aspiring to become rep players d) Provide support and manage the RDO in the effective delivery of the Small Sticks programme e) Co-ordinate and support local and identified players and coaches in the delivery of the Central Elite Programme f) Plan, develop, and implement a profitable and sustainable Academy programme that is open to all levels of ability 3. Coaching Development a) Plan, develop, and deliver coach development programmes and initiatives across all levels with possible support from Central and NZ Hockey (Association, Clubs, & Schools) b) Manage the appointment process for all representative coaches, then support development of representative coaches – through courses, resources, mentoring, and an end of season evaluation process c) Provide coaching advice and support to all coaches as required 4. Umpire & Officials Development a) Establish relationships with the umpires council to achieve the following outcomes: i. Provide a transparent pathway for umpires from community hockey to high performance programmes ii. Implement and enhance the community hockey umpire development programme iii. Support development opportunities for umpires relevant to interest level and capability iv. Provide formal and informal recognition for performance level umpires 5. Clubs & Schools a) Build strong relationships with clubs to develop and implement strategies that will strengthen club capability, increase participation, and increase their capacity to deliver b) Work with both clubs and schools to develop strategies to achieve effective school to club links c) Build strong relationships with schools to develop and implement strategies that will strengthen school capability, increase participation, and increase their capacity to deliver d) Provide opportunities for students to “try out” hockey to encourage participation 6. Junior Hockey a. Support the Junior Hockey Council to: i. Develop and implement coaching programmes ii. Support and advise volunteer coaches when required 7. General a) To work effectively within a team environment to contribute to the strategic direction of Hockey Manawatu b) To provide timely and accurate reporting as required from the Operations Manager, Central Hockey Community Manager, Hockey NZ c) Contribute regularly to the HMI website and social media channels with relevant and appropriate information d) To attend HMI official functions and meetings as required e) To attend the Hockey New Zealand RDM Course/Conference f) Liaise with Hockey New Zealand and Central Hockey personnel and other associations as required g) To carry out any other tasks as required dependent on the needs of the organisation Qualifications and Experience Strong knowledge and understanding of the game of hockey Strong understanding of athlete development including player, coaches, and umpires from community level to high performance Skilled and experienced in identifying and developing strong relationships, demonstrating leadership, and the ability to relate to people at all levels Experience in planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring programmes An ability to lead, coach, and motivate others An ability to work in a team environment to achieve desired outcomes Personal Attributes Integrity Adaptability Interpersonal skills Self motivated Passion to succeed Driven to achieve results Attention to detail
