EMERGENCY VEHICLE ACCESS PLAN
Access to Sport and Rugby Institute for emergency vehicles will be via the access way on Albany
Drive. All emergency vehicles are granted direct access to the facility. This message will be relayed to
Duty Warden for emergency access. This vehicle will act as a transport/replacement vehicle from the
on-site ambulance located at the rear Sport and Rugby Institute main building.
The emergency vehicle will exit via the access way on Albany Drive. This access way is signalled by
the GREEN arrows.
If a player is required to be removed from the ground they will transported to the medical room or
stationary ambulance (WHEN BOOKED) at the rear of the Main building. If a Match Day Doctor has
been appointed, they will decide of the most appropriate path as they may deem that a six person
carry may be the most appropriate means of transport. This path is signalled by the RED arrow.
EMERGENCY TRAUMA ACTION PLAN
In the event that a serious injury occurs this will be initially tended to by the Team Medic on the
Field Of Play (FOP) along with the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and First Responder (IF
BOOKED).
The player will be stabilised and it will be ensured that the match is stopped by the Referee whilst a
full assessment of the players’ well-being is being completed and it is ensuring that the player’s
health is in no way compromised.
In the event of cardiac arrest, the SRI staff will provide a defibrillator where required.
In the event of a serious spinal injury the injured player will be tended to in the same way as any
other serious injury, the match will be stopped by the Referee and the medical staff will assess the
patient and provide the necessary treatment at first response.
Provided it is deemed safe to move the player the medical staff will decide if the player is to be
moved via stretcher to the medical room where the player will then be assessed and transferred to
the most appropriate Sport Cord Injury Destination via Air Ambulance or Helicopter if applicable.
The expected travel time for road ambulance is 15 minutes from Palmerston North Hospital to the
SRI, each way.
In the event there is any form of significant traffic delay or vehicle issue the Palmerston North
Rescue Helicopter is the secondary means of medical transportation from the ground. In the event
this mode of transport is required the helicopter shall land in the centre of the playing field of the
facility provided the player is able to be moved to this location.. In the event the player is not
permitted to be moved this distance the game will be suspended and FOP cleared of any team
members to enable the Rescue Helicopter to land on the FOP. Civil Aviation requirements require
the FOP to be entirely clear of personnel other than medical personnel in order to perform a landing
on this area.
