Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 2017 game notes Saturday, July 8th at 6:05 PM Game #87, Road Game #48 Contact: Mike Lindskog [email protected] San Manuel Stadium San Bernardino, CA Rancho cucamonga quakes (9-7, 45-41) AT Inland Empire 66ers (9-7, 39-47) (L) Scott Kazmir (0-0, 3.00) vs. (R) Austin robichaux (2-5, 8.03) TODAY’S GAME: Your Rancho Cucamonga Quakes take on the Inland Empire 66ers (Los Angeles Angels affiliate) tonight in the second game of a four-game series. After an abbreviated four-game home stand against Lancaster in which the Quakes lost three-out-of-four games to the JetHawks, Rancho won two-of-three in San Jose during the week. The seven-game road trip concludes with these four games against the 66ers in San Bernardino. VS INLAND EMPIRE: The Quakes visit Inland Empire in this series for the first time since April 10th-12th, when they took two-of-three games from the 66ers. Even after a loss last night, Rancho leads the season series 9-5 this year and this will be the 15th of 27 games the two will play this season. BACK-AND-FORTH GAME ENDS IN INLAND EMPIRE WALK-OFF: The Quakes blew an early lead, tied the game in the ninth, but eventually allowed a walk-off double in the 10th inning in a 5-4 loss to Inland Empire last night. Jose Rojas blasted a double into the right-center field alley in the bottom of the 10th off of Parker Curry (1-4) to win the game. Rancho took an early lead in the first couple innings on solo home runs by DJ Peters and Ibandel Isabel, but it did not hold. The 66ers took a 4-2 advantage in the eighth inning just to have the Quakes fight back in the ninth. Omar Estevez lined an RBI single up the middle to score Johan Mieses for the first run and Estevez came into score on a Victor Roache RBI double that tied the game. The next batter, Zach McKinstry, singled, but Roache was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Adam Bray was handed a no-decision, even though he threw a season-high seven innings, just allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven and not walking a batter. PETERS STILL ON A ROLL: DJ Peters carries a team-high 12-game hitting streak into tonight's game. During that span, he is hitting .423 (20-for-47) with five doubles, one triple, six home runs, 13 RBIs and 11 runs. He hit three home runs on July 2nd, but his greatest feat might have been hitting two home runs in the fourth inning off of 2014 World Series MVP Madison Bumgarner on July 5th. Peters leads the California League in home runs (19), slugging percentage (.558), on-base-plus-slugging percentage (.943) and total bases (168). DIAZ NAMED PLAYER OF THE MONTH: Yusniel Diaz had an incredible month of June and earlier today, his efforts were recognized as he was named the California League Player of the Month. In June, Diaz led the league with 40 hits, 16 extra-base hits, total bases (68), doubles (nine) and on-base percentage (.438). Overall, he batted .392 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 24 games. DODGERS TO SEND FOUR FORMER QUAKES TO MLB ALL-STAR GAME: The Los Angeles Dodgers will send five former Quakes (out of six total All-Stars) to the All-Star Game in Miami next week. Cody Bellinger (2015 in Rancho), Corey Seager (2013 and 2014), Clayton Kershaw (2014 and 2016), Justin Turner (2017) and Kenley Jansen (2011 and 2015) will play for the National League All-Star team in 2017. Alex Wood, who was named as a replacement, was the only Dodger selected that did not play with the Quakes. A total of seven former Quakes made the team (Zack Greinke and Mike Trout). ALVAREZ AND VERDUGO TO THE FUTURE GAME: Current Quake pitcher Yadier Alvarez and former Quakes outfielder Alex Verdugo will represent the Los Angeles Dodgers at the upcoming Future's Game in Miami, to take place on Sunday, July 9th. Alvarez, rated as the Dodgers' top pitching prospect, is 2-4 with a 5.37 ERA in 13 total appearances this year. Verdugo, the Dodgers' top outfield prospect, who was recently named to the Triple-A All-Star Game, is fourth in the PCL with a .346 batting average, as of July 7th. SCOTT KAZMIR SET TO MAKE THIRD REHAB APPEARANCE: Dodger rehabber Scott Kazmir will start for the Quakes today in San Bernardino. Kazmir is the 12th Dodger rehabber the Quakes have hosted this season (all sponsored by San Manuel Casino). Kazmir was placed on the 60-day DL with hip-tightness at the beginning of the season and he has not pitched this season for the Dodgers. Last season, Kazmir went 10-6 in 26 starts with a 4.56 ERA in 136 and a third innings for Los Angeles. The three-time All-Star was the 15th overall pick in the 2002 draft by the Mets and he came up with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays, debuting in the Major Leagues in 2004. After spending six seasons in Tampa Bay, he was traded to the Angels, where he rehabbed for the Quakes in 2010. The Dodgers are the sixth team he has played for in his career. In his first two rehab starts, he threw three innings while giving up one run in each. OPPOSING PITCHER: Austin Robichaux will make his 12th start of the season for the 66ers in the second game of the series. He has not recorded a decision, but he pitched well his last time out. On May 7 at Rancho, he threw three and two-thirds innings, giving up five runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking two in the loss. The native of Lake Charles, LA was drafted in the 18th round in 2014 out of the University of Lousianna-Lafayette. Robichaux had two short stints this season with the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees, making three starts and going 1-0 with a 3.29 ERA. He made one start in his first stint on April 22nd and two in his second trip (May 28th and June 2nd).
