Amended 15/10/2015 THURSDAY NIGHT MEN’S RECREATIONAL BASKETBALL LEAGUE RULES GENERAL: This is recreational league, play safe and for the joy of it. Leave each game friends and in better health. Be respectful to your fellow players and the game officials. Regardless of how you perceive the official’s call, the official is not going to change a call. Accept the call and get on with the game. The officials will deal with inappropriate behaviour including attitude, comments, actions and game delays. The following rules will assist the officials in maintaining control of the game and the players to govern themselves appropriately. In the event a player becomes abusive to other players or any of the game officials, it is expected that that other players will assist in calming the abusive player. Players should plan on being at the gym at least ten minutes prior to the game time. REGISTRATION FOR LEAGUE PLAY: 1) Registration fees consist of the basic fee (currently $180.00) plus a deposit for the team jersey ($30.00). The deposit for the jersey is returned at the end of the season, if the jersey is returned in good condition, 2) The basic fee may vary, dependent upon the costs to run the league, 3) Registration fees are due, in full, at the start of the first game of the season. In no case shall full payment be delayed beyond the third league game unless special arrangements have been made with the league executive, REGULAR SEASON GAME RULES: 1) League rules shall conform to Ontario Basketball Association Rules except as stated hereunder, 2) the first game will start at 6:30 p.m. sharp to ensure all games are kept on schedule. The second game starts at 7:40 and the third game starts at 8:50 3) games will consist of 2-28 minute halves, 4) if a team does not have five players to start the game, that team has the option of : a) forfeiting the game, picking up a player from another team and proceeding with the game or, b) waiting five minutes, with the clock running, until another player shows for their team. If no player shows up, the game is forfeited and that team may pick up a player from another team. c) a team with five players may pick up additional substitutes from another team WITH THE APPROVAL OF THE OPPOSING TEAM. 5) NO OVERTIME during regular season games (there will be tie games), 6) breaks between games and game halves will be 5 minutes, 7) each team receives 2-one minute timeouts PER GAME, 8) stop time will apply only during the last minute of the game provided the score is within 10 points or less. At 11 points the clock runs, If foul shots are being shot when the score reaches 11 points the clock will not start until the foul shots are complete. If a time out is called, the clock is stopped for the duration of the time-out and started when the ball is in-bounded. 9) players may move upon release of the ball from the hand of the foul shooter. 10) FOULS: a. 6 fouls – departure from the game b. 2 technical fouls in one game – ejection from the game and sit one game, c. 4 accumulated technical fouls in multiple games – finish current game, review by league officials and sit next game, d. second instance of 2 technical fouls in one game – ejection from game and sit three games, 11) any player or person responsible for damage to school property will be ejected from the league and will be held responsible for all costs related to their actions, 12) any player harassing game officials or other players will be ejected from the league. 13) Playoff format will be based on regular season points accumulated. Tie breakers will be based on head to head records, total points scored plus/minus, total points scored for, total points scored against and finally, a coin toss. 14) Players may not substitute “on the fly”. Substitutions may only take place when there is a stoppage in play and upon the signal of the referee. 15) Points based on 2 points for a win/default, 1 point for a tie, PLAYOFF GAMES: i. all of the foregoing rules apply except #4c, ii. overtime will apply and consist of 3 minute periods with an additional timeout for each overtime period played; game continues until decided.
