Dear Team Champion,
Thank you for your interest in developing a team for this year’s 37th annual Statesman Cap 10K on April 6,
2014. We would like to introduce the Statesman Cap 10K High School Challenge to you and the students at
your school. The Statesman Cap 10K is an annual rite of spring in downtown Austin and we invite you and
your students to come be a part of it together! The School Challenges award and recognize schools for
participation and speed.
The High School Challenge is a chance for the teachers, administrators, and most of all students at your
school to participate together in a fun event while promoting healthy lifestyles and awareness to a worthy
cause, SafePlace. We have a lot of fun in store for the new and improved Cap 10K Finish Line Festival with
entertainment, activities, awards and contests for our School Challenges. We want you to benefit from all the
School Challenge has to offer!
To assist you with bringing on more students to the team, we have created a media kit that contains:
 Team Rules & Restrictions
 Registration instructions and deadlines
 Team Stuff Pick Up Instructions
 Prizes and Incentives
 Event schedule
 Fundraising ideas and information about our beneficiary SafePlace (optional)
Thank you so much for your willingness to participate and your excitement about the Cap 10K School
Challenge. Please know we are here to help make this as fun and easy as possible for you and your students.
Do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you on race day!
Sincerely,

REGISTRATION INSTRUCTIONS
Creating School Challenge Team – Team Champion
STEP 1: The School Champion (Lead Teacher or Team Captain) logs into Cap 10K registration site hosted by
Active. On the Active.com site you will be prompted to join Active to create a log in for team registration.
STEP 2: School Champion creates the team by making a “dummy” registration. When creating that “dummy”
registration, the lead teacher/school champion MUST enter the school name as it is commonly used and
commonly spelled. Example: Bryker Woods Elementary or Clint Small High School.
STEP 3: Simply select Statesman Cap 10K and register as normal until you get to the portion of registration
section labeled Team Information:



Under “Team Information” select “Create a Team” and a box for your unique Team Name will show up.
Complete the form with your commonly used school name or Team Name and take note it for future
reference in recruiting more members.
Team Champions have the option to make your team Private or Public. If your team is Public, anyone
can see your team name on the drop down menu of registration. If your team is Private you can
password protect your team and control the members that join by inviting members to it using the
password.
School Champion or Lead Teacher registration does not register individual for the event, it only creates
the school name in the system for participants to be added to.
STEP 4: Once the Team Champion “dummy” registration is complete, an automatic confirmation email from
Active will sent to the Team Champion. The confirmation email will include a link to sign in and manage your
team as well as invite new team members.
