IFD540/IFD440 Free Play Simulator

Minimum PC Requirements
• Dual core CPU, 2GB RAM and 2GB of free disk space
• Most modern NVIDIA® or ATI® video cards
• Resolution at least 1280x1024 set to highest (32bit) color
• Windows® XP, Vista, 7, or 8
Download Requirements
Please note that this simulator software is approximately a 1GB.
Download and Installation Instructions
1) Copy the folder/disc contents to your PC.
2) Open folder and double-click to run "setup.exe" file to install
View README.TXT file for additional instructions and notes.
Once folder is copied to your PC, run “setup.exe”
Click “NEXT”
Review and Agree to License terms, then Click “NEXT”
Click “NEXT” (recommended)
Click “NEXT”
Allow several minutes for program to install.
Upon completion, click “Close”
Double Click on IFD540 or IFD440 icon on desktop
to launch Simulator.
You can choose to run a 2nd instance of the
simulator (dual 540s, dual 440s, or 540/440) by
clicking an icon a second time.
Clicking on Maintenance Mode (without other
instances running) with a USB Jump drive installed
in your PC will allow you to transfer settings and
checklists from your PC Simulator to your actual
unit in your airplane.
PC Sim Launches shortly after. Note that you can adjust the sim speed and altitude.
Enter a Flight Plan
Example: Lakeland, Florida to Baxley, Georgia

Push in (mouse click) on small right knob
to bring up menu and position the sim at
your origin airport
Click on Origin airport field to enter our
desired starting point.
(In the real world, the IFD will load your
origin airport based on previous flight)
Use QWERTY Keyboard to enter “KLAL”,
then push ENTER
Click on “Side Tab” to view Flight Plan + MAP
Now we have the Sim set up and can start
entering our flight plan.

Push in on small right knob. IFD540’s GeoFill
nominates nearest VOR (LAL) automatically.

Push in on small right knob and rotate to
select the V157 airway from the menu
(push the button again to enter).

Push in on small right knob to view menu of
exit points.

Rotate small right knob CCW to select the
exit point of BAXLY.
(then push the button again to enter).

Notice the IFD540 has entered all
intermediate waypoints of the V157 for you.

Now Push in on small right knob again to
view menu, then push again to select
“Waypoint.”

Notice that GeoFill automatically nominates
the nearest airport (KBHC), which in this
case is our destination. All done!

DUAL MODE - Launch IFD540 and then IFD440 to get dual instances running simultaneously. Units will
crossfill automatically. Also you can enable “Keyboard Convenience” in SETUP to enable the keyboard on
one unit to enter data on the other.
Launching Maintenance Mode with a USB Jump Drive plugged into your PC will bring you to this screen
which allows you to select the files you want to save/restore. Check the desired items then hit “Proceed”
