SPECIALIST MENTAL HEALTH SUBSTANCE MISUSE / ALCOHOL SERVICE
We are a community based team who provide a proactive service for Substance
misuse/Alcohol Misuse for Derby City.
We also provide a specialist service for people who experience mental health
problems in combination with substance/alcohol misuse issues.
We operate as two teams, but hold joint team meetings and have one Service
Manager and one Consultant Psychiatrist for both teams.
DRUGS AND ALCOHOL
Drugs and Alcohol: Misuse of drugs and alcohol can effect people, physically,
psychological, socially, economically and legally. These can have a serious effect
not only upon the individual using the substances, but also on those around them
namely parents, partners, relatives, children, friends, work colleagues.
PHILISOPHY OF SUBSTANCE MISUSE SERVICE
We provide a comprehensive service. We aim to be easily accessible and aware of
Cultural, Ethnic and Gender issues in providing services. The highly skilled staff are
here to help people with drug and alcohol related problems, their families, friends,
partners and colleagues, including those individuals who experience con-current
mental health diagnosis.

WHAT DO WE OFFER:
 Assessment
 Advice, Information and Leaflets
 Individual support for people with Drug and/or Alcohol problems
 Support for Family/Friends of Drug or Alcohol user
 Community detoxification for drugs and alcohol dependency
 We can also negotiate hospital admissions for detoxification and assessment of
individual holistic needs
 Prescribe suitable programmes which help detoxification or to achieve harm
reduction/minimisation.
 Psychotherapeutic counselling and support
 Behavioural interventions
 Complimentary therapies, i.e. auricular acupuncture
 Education and Training programmes
 Pre and Post test HIV counselling and ongoing support
 Hepatitis ‘B’ vaccination programme
 Hepatitis ‘C’ testing with pre and post test support with
associated referral and continued involvement with

CAR PARKING
Bradshaw Clinic
There is a small car park at the Mosque in Wilmot Street (map attached) at a cost of
£3.00 per day. If you have to leave the car park during the day they will let you repark providing there is space. Prayer time is between 12 and 2 p.m. and it is difficult
to remove car from the car park during this time, especially on a Friday. There is a
public car park opposite the mosque.

SMOKING
The Trust operates a non-smoking policy. Refer to policy.
DRESS CODE
Staff at the Bradshaw/St James do not wear a uniform.
You are advised to dress in a smart but practical manner. Jeans and training shoes
are not acceptable.
You are advised to keep jewellery to a minimum.
MEALS/BEVERAGES
There are tea/coffee making facilities on both premises.

Members of the team pay into the tea/coffee fund. You may wish to contribute (see
Team Administrator) or provide your own beverages for consumption during the day.
There are no cooking facilities on the premises, however, there is a microwave oven
(first floor kitchen) and a toaster (second floor kitchen) that can be used, in
accordance with Trust Policy.

Staff bring in tea/coffee, creamer for the team. You may wish to contribute or provide
your own beverages for consumption during the day.
There are no cooking facilities on the premises, however, there is a microwave oven
and toaster that can be used, in accordance with Trust Policy.

ABSENCE & SICKNESS
If you are absent due to sickness please inform First Care in the first instance and
also telephone the Bradshaw Clinic or St James House to inform the team.
UNTOWARD INCIDENT
In the event of an untoward incident immediately fill out and complete an “Untoward
Incident Form” and forward to Service Manager for counter-signing.
