The service is provided to inpatients and to certain outpatients. There is potential to expand the contribution of the technician to areas not currently covered by a top-up service, to develop protocols on all areas of practice and to expand the purchasing and procurement function. Services are provided by a team of pharmacists and technicians (all grades). There is currently a technician team of one senior and four basic-grade technicians. Naas General Hospital Provision of a pharmaceutical service in Naas General Hospital, particularly in relation to supply of medications to inpatients and provision of a top-up service to all wards To actively participate in the development of new innovations to enhance the quality of the pharmacy service provided. There is potential to expand the technician service particularly in relation to the wards based technician role and develop protocols in all areas of practice Services are provided by a team of pharmacists and 5 senior technicians Reporting Relationship To the Chief Pharmacist or deputy but also on occasion to the Senior Pharmaceutical Technician Purpose of the Post Provision of a hospital pharmaceutical service Principal Duties and Responsibilities To carry out the assembly of requisitions for departments. To carry out the assembly of prescriptions as may be appropriate. To carry out the preparation of cardiac resuscitation boxes/trays. To perform extemporaneous compounding as directed. To perform the aseptic compounding of Total Parenteral Nutrition and I.V. Admixtures including cytotoxic drugs if required To carry out the pre-packaging of bulk preparations. To carry out top-up medication distribution systems to wards and 1 NRS0867 Pharmaceutical Technician Staff V2 departments To ensure the receipt, checking and storage of goods received To be responsible for stock control including ward stocks To ensure the maintenance of standards of clinical hygiene within the pharmacy To operate computers as required To attend continuing education courses as deemed advisable/necessary by the Chief Pharmacist or departmental head in consultation with the Personnel Officer To agree duty and annual leave rosters with Supervisor. These posts are pensionable. A panel will be formed from this recruitment campaign and future permanent or specified purpose vacancies will be filled from this panel. The tenure of these posts will be indicated at "expression of interest" stage Appointment as an employee of the Health Service Executive is governed by the Health Act 2004 and the Public Service Management (Recruitment and Appointment) Act 2004. Remuneration The Salary scale for the post is: €31, 292 - €41,204 01/11/2013 Working Week The standard working week applying to the post is to be confirmed at Job Offer stage. HSE Circular 003-2009 “Matching Working Patterns to Service Needs (Extended Working Day / Week Arrangements); Framework for Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016” applies. Under the terms of this circular, all new entrants and staff appointed to promotional posts from Dec 16th 2008 will be required to work agreed roster / on call arrangements as advised by their line manager. Contracted hours of work are liable to change between the hours of 8am-8pm over seven days to meet the requirements for extended day services in accordance with the terms of the Framework Agreement (Implementation of Clause 30.4 of Towards 2016).
