What Do I Do While on Duty? 1. Arrive on time! ? You MUST arrive at College Office on or before 7 p.m. Sunday Friday ? You may leave office on or after 11 p.m. Sunday - Friday ? Friday duty begins at 7 p.m. and will be done from College Office ? An RA must be on duty during the entire weekend (in room) 2. When you arrive at college office: ? Send Lisa a silent message (unless I am around when you start) indicating you have arrived to sit duty ? Indicate on college office door that you are on duty (residents must ALWAYS know where the RA on duty is) ? Look on desk or in your mailbox to see if I have left anything for you to do please make sure you do what is left for you to do 3. Duty time is to be spent doing the following: ? Planning programs ? Cleaning/organizing office ? Customer service ? Surveys (QLS, FSA, etc.) ? Signs for building ? Health and Safety paperwork ? Three thorough rounds ? Other tasks as assigned by me ? You may study or do other personal tasks ONLY if you have completed ALL RA responsibilities ? Please do not spend a long time on the phone (keep in mind that residents may be calling if they have an emergency) ? Rounds should take between 10 – 15 minutes (no longer) 3 times a night. Your last round should be at 11pm. ? Remember never to keep the floor plan or master key in your room 4. When you leave college office after sitting duty: ? Forward phone to room ? Make sure office is clean ? Turn off lights ? Indicate you are in your room ? Lock College Office door ? Make sure master key is secured ? In the morning forward phone to Quad Office (2-6760) 5. Weekend duty: ? Duty may be performed from your room ? You must indicate on college office door where you are ? You may leave building but it is your responsibility to forward phone to another RA or me (you may not leave the building under any circumstances unless someone is covering the phone from within the building and that person knows the phone is forwarded) ? Duty log must be in my box by Monday morning Administrative Tasks 1. Duty Switches: ? You MUST complete a duty switch form for ALL switches ? ALL switches must be completed at least 24 hours in advance (i.e. have duty switch form in my mailbox) ? OA will change duty calendar to reflect changes 2. ICF’s: ? Must be legible ? If not completed thoroughly and/or legible you will have to complete a new one ? Must be handed in to me BEFORE 9 a.m. the morning following the night of incident 3. I want all paperwork to be handed-in on time, neat and complete! 4. Voicemail messages: ? You need to respond within 24-hours ? If you do not respond within 24-hours I will ALWAYS assume that you mean “yes” Rounds 1. You should be looking and/or doing the following items: ? Enforcing the noise policy* (Remember C wing is Quiet Lifestyles) ? Missing/empty extinguishers* ? Nonfunctioning lights* ? Vandalism and/or damages* ? Assuring all exterior doors are locked and secured* ? Discarding all old flyers ? Illegal postings* (take them down, label them as to where and when they were found and if any damage was incurred on surface) ? Briefly chatting with residents *All these items MUST be indicated on duty log Emergencies/confrontations 1. If possible, confront with another staff member 2. If there is an emergency or a serious confrontation (e.g. marijuana smell, huge party, etc.) please contact me, I DON’T CARE WHAT TIME OF NIGHT IT IS. If I am not around call Public Safety to page RHD on duty and then call my cell phone. 3. For any incidents that occur while you are on duty I want ICF’s placed in my mailbox by 9 a.m. the next morning MASTER KEY 1. Never take the master key to allow a non-resident into the room. 2. When taking the master key fill out the master key log form with info. 3. Return the master key as soon as you are done. It does not matter how late it is the key should never be in the RA’s room. Other Duty Info 1. Vacuum Cleaner or other equipment can be signed out only during 7pm-11pm and I.D. must be left and then returned when building equipment is returned 2. The same equipment can be given out on weekends only up to 11pm. Lockout Procedures 1. If a resident is locked out of their room they must show an ID which the RA will verify with the floor plan. 2. If the resident does not have an ID on them they need to ask the resident what their ID# is 3. After letting the resident into their room they should ask to see the residents keys and ID card if they have not seen one already. 4. Residents need to remember that Lockouts are not emergencies.
