Year 2 Football Match
Our Year 2’s played their first match for Woodstone today and produced a
wonderful team performance to beat Whitwick St John 7-0.
The boys started strongly and were soon putting the Whitwick defence under
lots of pressure. Henry and Theo both went close before a wonder free-kick
from Rocco soared over the ‘keeper and into the net for 1-0! Whitwick tried to
grab a quick equaliser but super tackling and defending by Ashton and Harry
ensured our first ‘keeper of the match Leyton retained a clean sheet.
The second period saw Woodstone pile on more pressure and super combination
play between Harry, Henry and Rocco saw the latter grab his second of the
game to make it 2-0.
Rocco replaced Theo in goal for the final period and Leyton took his chance
upfront, scoring four super goals, including a penalty set up by a great through
ball from Theo. Henry’s incredible energy saw him cover nearly every blade of
grass and having set up Leyton for his second goal, he was unlucky not to score
himself. Harry and Ashton were both denied debut goals late on too as the
Whitwick ‘keeper made another two great saves.
Well done to all the boys who played superbly as a team and thoroughly
deserved what will hopefully be the first of many wins. Thanks to Mr Mullins for
refereeing and to all the parents for their great support.
