I graduated from Eastern New Mexico University with a degree in Commercial Art & Psychology. I met
and married my husband Mike while attending college in New Mexico (he's now an archaeologist best
known for discovering the Mesa Site in Alaska). Mike was from New York, I was from Wisconsin and we
immediately hit if off when we both discovered we were avid Packer fans in a world of Dallas Cowboys
fanatics. While attending graduate school, I took a part-time job in a small public library and discovered
my "true calling". I've been working in libraries ever since. Mike and I moved to Alaska in 1970, bought
some land, had two children (Kelly & Josh), and began building our log home. It's still a "work in
progress". When our kids were in high school, I started working (part-time) on my Master's Degree in
Library Science through the University of Arizona in Tucson. Since I continued to work full time, it took
me four years including a couple summer sessions in Tucson to complete my degree (this was before
online education). I finally finished in 1995. In 2003, I accepted the position of Circulation Librarian at
our local public library and have been working in that capacity ever since. I love my job! Mike and I both
plan to retire when we turn 70. I love to garden, travel, read, watch soccer and hockey (I played one
season of each), spend time at our camp in the Brooks Range of Alaska, and enjoy our four
grandchildren. This is my first reunion, and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone.

Greetings to all. Within a short time following graduation, I spent the next three years in the USMC.
Highlights included: tracked vehicle repairman school, mixing napalm for flame tanks. I spent 16 months
on duty in Okinawa and getting married in California just before discharge and the official start of
Vietnam~~~~lucky for me!! The next roughly 25 years or so included raising five wonderful children;
three girls and two boys with my first wife mostly in the Neenah area. There was a move to Southern
California and Utah during this time frame. My second marriage included a young lady from Menasha
with two boys from a previous husband. Together, we had a precious baby girl we named Memory which
made a total of eight (four & four). A real blended family in every sense of the word. A definite
challenge, but without a doubt an abundance of rewards. In 1988, I relocated out to the Bay Area
in California with one of my boys. Since that time I have only returned to WI for short visits while living
and working in Northern and Southern CA, New Hampshire, Utah and back to the New England area
again. I have certainly had my share of moving back and forth across the country with lots of
adventure!!!! In general I've had a few bumps in the road, maybe taken the wrong path when I came to
the fork! I have had a few health issues, etc.----- just like anyone else. But taking everything into
consideration, I feel very fortunate to have had such a great life!!! With NHS Class of 61 being a strong
foundation. I also feel greatly sadden for those we have lost along the way. GOD BLESS.....I am
looking forward for the opportunity to seeing you all again and sharing our stories. P.S. I am especially
grateful and feel extremely blessed for all my wonderful grandchildren. Heather being the oldest graduated a few
years ago from Marquette with high honors. Her brother, being involved in ROTC & graduating from Syracuse two
years ago and is currently serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan. Both are alumnus from NHS. My youngest daughter,
Memory, has three in diapers~~~~~WOW!!!!! There are several more in between who have a way to bring a smile
to my face.......

How does one condense 68 years?? Here goes.......... I’ve lived my entire life in Wisconsin, except for
four years of college at Miami of Ohio where I majored in elementary education and minored in literature.
I divorced in my early thirties with one son, Bill, now age 36 and a user interface developer for an
information management company in New York City. I have been happily remarried for nearly 25 years
to Dick Mangan, a photographer and videographer. I taught grades 1-8 in Wisconsin schools for 36
years, most recently 6th grade science at Whitefish Bay Middle School, in the Milwaukee suburb which we
call home. My teaching career also included the writing and presenting of numerous hands-on science
seminars and in-services for K-8 teachers, as well as the joy of publishing two editions of a book for
science educators, Brain Compatible Science. I’ve been retired for five years and enjoy computer projects
(the reunion DVD was the highlight of my year), scrapbooking weekends, gardening, exercise, reading,
traveling, community involvement and time with family and friends.

Right after high school, I got into computers and have been in that field for almost 48 years. In 1970, I
became an independent and have contracted to over 35 firms since then, including NASA, Southwest
Airlines, and the US Marine Corps. I've lived and worked in most of the US. In my free time, I was
married and divorced twice (no children), and attended the University of Houston. Now I am looking
forward to moving to Montana, going to school again, and living in some of the most beautiful scenery in
America. I'm in very good health and plan on living a long time! And during that time, I'm going to try
to understand why I'm here. Any help (with the understanding) would be greatly appreciated.

Naval Hospital. We returned to Neenah for four years and then moved to DePere. We then bought a
veal farm in Wayside, which we operated for 25 years. After selling the farm, we moved to Greenleaf.
We just purchased a home in Cape Coral, Florida to spend the winters. We have two daughters, each

Married Karen Schindler -1964, graduated Michigan Tech - 1965 and the first job was for Minn. Dept. of
Transportation as Civil Engineer in Duluth, MN. Our first child, Pamela, was born (1969). A move to
Baudette, MN as County Engineer followed. While in Baudette, son Paul was born (1975). A cross-
3
country move took us to Castle Rock, WA where I worked for Washington DOT. While in WA, Mt St.
Helens erupted and we watched the phenomenon from our front yard. In 1982, a move back to WI
found me working for WI-DOT. Retirement followed in 2001, after which a new job, as consultant for
private engineering companies, is now a part-time situation. Fishing continues to be number one hobby,
followed closely by annual hunting trips to Montana. Also added to resume is grandpa to granddaughter,
Mickalyn (2000) and Collin (2003).

of you have met. We have lived in Waukesha and the Town of Delafield WI for the past 30 plus years. I
had a great job working in Milwaukee for the Blood Center of Southeastern WI in an IT Manager position
for 23 years. I retired in 2004 and love love love retirement life. We enjoy golf, traveling (regular trips to
Maine) and hanging out with our 5 grandchildren ranging in age 18 months to 23 years. Kerry is retiring
next year and we will be building our retirement home back in Fond du Lac, WI. We plan to be there in

We really enjoy them all, spoil them and then take them home. I play tennis several times a week and
our USTA "Super Senior" team won the state tournament last year. It was exciting. Dave and I both play
a lot of golf. We have been fortunate enough to be able to escape our Wisconsin winters these last
years. We spend 5 months in a wonderful community called Waterlefe in Bradenton, Florida. However,
when April comes we are both anxious to get home. Of all the places we have traveled, our favorite
place is right here in Neenah at our home on Lake Winnebago where we both grew up.

After graduating from Marquette University, I bounced around, working at Kimberly-Clark, then at the
University of Minnesota where I was attracted to the Peace Corps campus recruiting slogan, "Peace Corps goes
to Paradise." I was invited to train for the first PCV program to Fiji and worked in that glorious, wonderful,
colorful and vibrant country for two years. It was a terrific growing experience where I received so much more
than I contributed. When I left Fiji, I traveled extensively (New Zealand, Australia, Southeast Asia, India, Mid
East and Europe) for six months. In 1970 I reunited with my brother (who some of you may remember) and
his German wife who were living in Los Angeles. Readjustment to US and LA life was difficult, and I looked for
opportunities to go abroad again. Hired as a temp by a London employment agency for several months, I was
“on loan” to the English Department of Environment. I love the British understatement and the dry humor! In
1972 I returned to LA, this time on a permanent basis, working at UCLA's Jules Stein Eye Institute for the
faculty neuro-ophthalmologist for 15 years. My husband Reid, who owns an engineering company, and I
married in 1981. After the birth of our second son, I “retired” to full-time mommy-hood. Living in suburban
Arcadia I was involved in the usual activities – PTA, Little League, Cub Scouts, band, etc. Once our boys were
in school, I held various part-time positions and am now happily employed at my church office, acting as
receptionist and assistant to the business manager. I don’t yet consider myself retired, what with my little job,
longstanding position on the Board of the Arcadia Friends of the Library, various exercise classes and
participation in events, lectures, etc. at the Huntington Library. And, in November, I became a grandmother
(for the first time) to a delightful baby girl – finally, some “pink” in a family dominated by
testosterone!!! Caroline and I spend a day together at least once a week while her parents are at work. Reid
and I enjoy traveling, when his work allows, root for UCLA’s Bruin football team at Rose Bowl games, and can’t
believe high school graduation was 50 years ago!

Where to start.…. Clyde Jung and I were married in 1965 and had three children (Stephanie, Shelby and
Steven). Those 3 children are now 44 and 43 (Steve and Shelby are twins). I have 7 grandchildren,
aging from 5 to 16, 2 girls and 5 boys. Clyde and I moved around a lot because he was a tractor
salesman, but finally in 1977 we moved back to Neenah for good. I worked at Park N Market with Gail
Henke and then went to work at Affinity Clinic. I stayed there until my doctor left and I went with him
into private practice in 1991 and became the office manager. That was the same year Clyde and I
decided to move to the cottage on Hills Lake. We drove back and forth to work because by this time,
Clyde was working at Wentzel Ford in Winneconne. We built a new home there and boated and fished
and gardened and of course we had 3 grandchildren by then and they loved coming there. Clyde died of
cancer in 2000 and I continued to live at the lake and drive back and forth for the next five years. But I
also began to travel. I went first to Alaska and then to London and Paris. I moved back to Neenah (Town
of Menasha with Neenah address) in 2005 and jumped into all the activities of my grandchildren and did
my many babysitting opportunities. I also joined a wonderful church, Appleton Alliance and got a new
dog. I retired in 2008 and have not stopped going since then. I went to the Canadian Rockies and down
the Danube with my sisters last year. We are going up the Atlantic Coast this September. I still do a lot
of babysitting and not just for children. I have become a pet babysitter for my one daughter. So that is
my life and a little bit of Clyde's in a nutshell.

After graduation I attended the UW- Madison Engineering School and graduated in 1967 with a Master’s
Degree. I had gone through ROTC in college so I had to enter the US Air Force. I was stationed at Ft.
Meade, MD and was assigned to the National Security Agency from 1967 thru 1971. I then worked for an
engineering consulting company in Arlington, VA for three years. I then left and went to work for the US
Air Force as a civilian, working on testing and evaluation of equipment. In 1984, I transferred to the US
Army as a civilian, still working on testing and evaluation of equipment. As a result of my job, I was able
to travel to many different countries through-out the world, examining military equipment that failed and
determining repairs/fixes for the items. Getting reacquainted with Dawn Rowlandson after the 40 th NHS
reunion resulted in our marriage in 2002. In 2003, I was transferred from the Washington, DC area to
NC to become Chief of the Test and Evaluation Section. In 2006 I retired and we currently live in North
Carolina. At our home, I have a wood and metal work-shop where I build and fix all manner of things. I
have carved a five foot tall carousel rocking horse. I have wanted to visit China since I was a little boy.

I graduated from college in 1965. My first real job was with the Girl Scouts in St. Paul. Became the Chief
Executive Office of Girl Scout councils in Green Bay, the Quad cities and Minneapolis. Taking early
retirement from the Girl Scouts, I became the Chief Executive office for Big Brothers Big Sisters of
Minneapolis and then the Twin Cities and finished my work career as a Fund raising Consultant for Big
Brothers Big Sisters of America. I also taught at St. Thomas University as an adjunct professor teaching
courses in Leadership for Graduate program for Non Profit Management. Sold Doncaster clothing, had my
own consulting business and obtained a real estate license and also worked at the Minneapolis
Foundation. I married Bill Pickering in 1978. We have one daughter and three grandchildren. They live
in Neenah. I have lots of fun telling them stories about Neenah High. Bill and I spent our married life in
the Twin Cities of Minneapolis-St. Paul and retired to Venice, FL in 2005. Retirement life is very full, with
the church, food pantry, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Downtowners and trying to play golf and enjoying
friends and the beach.

Fifty years in a few sentences? Wow! I came to Simi Valley in Southern California in 1965 to teach first
grade. Met my husband Jack here. He was a 6th grade teacher. We married and traveled by camper
during the summers for 5 years before having kids. Drove to Alaska along the Alcan Highway in 1968.
We had two boys and kept on traveling and teaching. He taught junior high and I hit all grades in
elementary school except kindergarten and 6th grade. During the summers, we have been many places,
including Canada and Mexico. We did a lot of salt-water fishing in Mexico. The ocean is a lot warmer
there than in California! We have spent the summer and fall in Montana for the last 5 years. We miss
camping, but we traded the motor home for a place on the lake there. My sister lives in Montana, too, so
I enjoy spending time with her. Montana reminds me of Wisconsin. There are lots of flat open fields and
wonderful old barns in Flathead Valley. I love seeing all the growing things and smelling the richness of
the earth. So much wildlife, too. Such a friendly place filled with wonderful genuine people who have
time to talk and get to know about you. Life has been good to us. I look forward to hearing all about
what you all have been doing for the last 50 years. Could it really have been that long?

After graduation from UW at Whitewater in 1965. I lived in St. Paul, MN for 35 years. I was employed
by the State of MN for a brief time, earned my master's degree from UM at Minneapolis and worked in
education for 30 years. In 1967, I married Dennis Moors and we had one son, Tom. Retirement in 2001
moved us to Cliffs Valley near Greenville, SC and then to the Charlotte, NC area for six years. Since our
son, his wife Linda and their children Cameron and Addy live in Greenville, we moved back to the area in
June to be in closer contact with them. My husband and I have enjoyed travels to many places, including
Japan, Israel, Australia/New Zealand, Italy, France, Norway and other European areas. I offer my

The last reunion I attended was in 1986. We have 5 kids and 8 grandchildren. Rick lives in Mesa and has
1 girl and 2 boys; David lives in Maricopa (about 40 minutes south of Mesa) and has 3 girls. Susan is not
married and lives with us in Mesa, Jennifer lives in Mount Juliet, near Nashville and has 2 boys; Brad lives
in Boston and is not married yet. We moved to Arizona in 1987 and have been happy in the Sunshine. I
finally retired in May and we became the best old birds of all -SNOWBIRDS!!! After many years of tent
camping, we now have a travel trailer and have spent the last 2 months traveling around Canada and
Alaska. We also enjoy 4-wheeling and have explored a lot of the mountains of the western states
especially Colorado. I started selling appliances and TV's in 1984 for about 4 years in Neenah and Mesa
and then started working at the East Valley Tribune newspaper in 1988 in circulation and then in

advertising sales. In 2002 I started at the Arizona Republic in the classified advertising department. I
enjoyed my years of advertising sales. We are starting a new phase - retirement - and plan on having as
much fun as the last 50 years have been. I am looking forward to getting together with everyone!

After high school, the first two summers I worked as a typist at Kimberly Clark Research & Development
and Purchasing. The third summer I kept my school-year, proofreading job at Castle Pierce Printing in
Oshkosh. The summer between my Junior and Senior year was the most fun and great experience; a
friend and I worked two jobs in Hyannis, MA, as chambermaids and clerks in a candy store. After
graduating from University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor of Arts (Sociology major, Spanish
minor) in 1965, I worked as a psychiatric Social Worker at Winnebago State Hospital until marrying Jerry
Tonn in November 1967. I was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom to raise our two children: Andrea born
in 1969 and Brian born in 1974. Andrea is now an employment Attorney with Denver City and has two
grandchildren for us: Garrett, age 6, and Aubrey, age 4. Brian is a Deputy Sheriff with Clackamas County
in Oregon. He is also a Search and Rescue Coordinator in the Mount Hood area. His 12-year marriage just
ended; they had no children. I started working again when Brian was in elementary school. During those
years I worked as an AWOL Counselor with Job Corps students, a high school tennis coach, and a
hospital Medical Staff Services office credentialer and held various administrative assistant positions.
Finally, after we settled in the Ogden area the second time, I was able to stay in one place long enough
to get 12+ years of retirement with the State of Utah retiring at age 65 as a statistician and Preadmission Advisor for a college nursing program. At age 28 I fell in love with the game of tennis and
have been playing ever since. My goal has always been to beat Bob Kosloske in singles, but that only
happened once after Kuz was recovering from vehicle accident injuries. Now that I’m retired, I’m playing
a lot more tennis, and in October 2010, my doubles partner and I won the gold medal for our age group
(65-69) at the Huntsman Senior World games in St. George, UT. Hey, Kuz, how about another match! I’m
also a P.E.O. member, avid quilter, active gardener, and bridge player and have served our church in
several leadership positions. Since retirement, Jerry and I are playing more golf together. The wives
joined the men at a Palm Springs area condo for the annual golf week this year, and we visited Pam
Peters Praulins’ beautiful home.

After graduating from college in 1965 with a biology major, John Severson and I were married and we
drove to San Francisco where John went to seminary for three years and I taught school. We really
missed the weather (4 seasons) in the Midwest so we moved to Duluth, Minnesota, where John took a
job as Associate Minister at Lakeside Presbyterian Church. Our two boys were born in Duluth; Peter in
1969 and Eric in 1971. In 1974, we moved to South St. Paul where John was the Associate Minister at
First Presbyterian Church. I also was on staff at the church as a part time Director of Christian Education.
John accepted the position as Head of Staff at Covenant Presbyterian Church and in 1981 our family
moved to West Des Moines, Iowa. We lived across the street from Valley High School so I decided to
sign up as a substitute teacher in the science department. In spite of what you may have heard about
substitute teaching, this turned out to be a great experience for me! I also worked half time at the
church as the Resource and Training Specialist. Our family suffered a devastating loss in March 1996
when our oldest son, Peter Andrew, died suddenly in his sleep of a heart virus. With the love and
16
support of our family and friends, and the grace of God, we were able to move forward after this tragedy.
John and I decided that life is indeed precious and short, and we made plans to retire early in 2001. We
built a home in Northfield, Minnesota, about 45 miles from our son, Eric, who teaches English and
Theatre at St. Paul Academy. We are enjoying our retirement and have done quite a bit of traveling
outside of the U.S. We look forward to a trip to the Antarctic this fall. We also enjoy vacationing up
along the north shore of Lake Superior; hiking, searching for waterfalls, snow shoeing in the winter.
Presently, I volunteer in the community serving on several boards. One of the most rewarding
experiences is serving on WINGS (Women in Northfield Giving Support) - a unique philanthropic
organization providing grants and support to women and children in the Northfield school district. I chair
the adult education committee and the arts committee at our church, and organize the Wednesday
evening dinner and activities. I enjoy knitting, walking, reading, and baking!

After graduating from Neenah High School, I attend the UW in Madison and earned a degree in
economics. Immediately after graduation I got an invitation to join the U.S. Army; they would not take
no for an answer. After attending Infantry Training and Officer Candidate School, I spent my active duty
time in Germany. In 1969 I got out of the military and got a job working for U. S. Steel in the Chicago
Area. During a trip to Minneapolis, I met Inta Stolcers1971. I moved to the Minneapolis area and have
been here ever since. For the last 25 years I worked for United Defense, later bought out by BAE (British
Aerospace Equipment). The plant made naval guns and various missile launching systems for the U. S.
Navy. I worked in production control and supply chain management on various programs and at various
levels. During this time, our two bundles of joy were born - a son, Paul, and a daughter, Vizma. Both are
now in their early thirties, married and living in the Minneapolis area. Our five year old grandson keeps
us entertained and busy. While working and raising kids, I was also in the Army Reserve and made two to
three week training trips to Germany and Korea. I retired from the Reserves in 1995 as a Lieutenant
Colonel. In 2005 I retired and joined the AARP crowd. Inta is still doing some substitute teaching in our
school district. We do some traveling, but pretty much home bodies now. I have an old farm outside of
Tomah, WI that keeps me pretty occupied spring, summer and fall. I plan on keeping the farm until the
drive gets too long or when I need a Hoveround power chair. Each day I tell my wife, "Life is good".

South Bend, IN while Larry finished his senior year and then graduate school at Norte Dame. We had
three children while in South Bend; Eric, Dana and Deke. In 1968, we moved to Rock Island, IL where
Larry worked as a civilian for the army R&D Weapons Center. Our fourth and final child, Keirsa was born
and I took up competitive racquetball playing in several Pro-Ams. In 1976, we moved to the PA/MD
border where Larry accepted a position with the Ballistics Research Laboratory. I became a racquetball
instructor and program director at a local racquet center. I also taught swimming in the summer. In
1986, we were on the move again to Saratoga Springs, NY where Larry became the director of Benet
Laboratories in Albany. I acquired a real estate license, which I never used, but became a teacher's
assistant working with challenged children........which I loved. In '95 we moved back to the MD area
(Havre de Grace) when Larry became a director at the Army Research Laboratory......to which I agreed,
contingent on us returning to Saratoga Springs upon retirement. When Larry retired in 2000, we moved
back to Saratoga Springs allowing Larry time to solve problems that needn't be ….and me to solve those
that do. We both have become avid tennis players. I play for a local USTA team and crush Larry
whenever I can! (He might have a different take on the latter........don't believe him). Our kids are
scattered and live in all directions; Eric in Australia, Dana in Louisiana, Deke in CA and Keirsa in NY.

We both graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Dick in Civil Engineering and me in Elementary
education. We were married in the middle of our junior year. Dick continued his education at
Northwestern University, receiving his MS in Structural Engineering in just one year. He spent about 10
years working for engineering consulting firms, in Detroit and Minneapolis. Our three children were born
in MI: Jennifer – 1966, Lisa – 1968 and Tim – 1968. They were only 13 months apart, and those were
the days of cloth diapers, so you can only imagine what I was doing! We lived in St. Louis Park, MN for
seven years, in a lovely brick house. We were active in the UCC church. Choir practice was our weekly
date! After completely remodeling this house (finishing the basement, redoing kitchen cabinets,
rebuilding upstairs to make two bedrooms and a bathroom), Dick took a new job with Fabcon, Inc., as
head of their engineering department. It was across the Minnesota River, and the bridge was low,
rotated for boats, and had a railroad track down the middle. Dick decided we needed to move south of
the river, so we bought land in the country just south of Prior Lake. On Halloween in 1976, we moved
into a structure that was only wood-framed. We were going to (and did) finish the rest. It was the
coldest winter in history. We lived a year in the basement, 3 months without hot running water. The
laundry was in the kitchen, with a two-burner hot plate and toaster oven. The toilet was flushed with a
hose from the well pump. Dick had designed the house: four stories with a 45-degree roof facing south
for solar panels. We finished the house as our children grew. We put on a porch; we added to the back
and built a third garage. Then we dug a large pond, by hand.............. I still find closets that were only
undercoated, but I am working on them! I'll never move, this house carries so much of Dick and our life
together. Besides building, we sang together, played bridge, gardened and camped. We made numerous
trips to Neenah to visit our parents. Dick was such a talented person, amazing me with what he knew,
his creative skills, and his constant kindness to others. He could whistle like a flute, including "The Flight
of the Bumblebee". He loved to recite Poe's "the Raven." He could skip stones and carve birds. Life was
20
full of surprises. Children grew, and we thoroughly enjoyed them at each age. As they needed less
mothering, I went to work teaching handicapped adults for five years. Dick decided to start his own
consulting firm, and did very well. I went on to start a center for preschool care and education at our
Church. Our children all left at once to attend college. In 1992, I opened my own center, Rocking Horse
Ranch. We serve children 6 months to 10 years with about 20 staff, and it is still open. It has brought
me much satisfaction and joy. Our children are all married and live in the area. They have produced 8
beautiful grand children, ages 5-13. They are my pride and salvation. I look forward to weekends and
taking each of them on a trip, first in the USA. Last summer Erin (9) went along with me to Finland to
visit our "Finnish son" and his family. Dick and I loved to travel, visiting many national parks with our
children, and paddling in the Boundary Waters. As our children left, we expanded our travels to Europe,
Africa, Hawaii, the Caribbean, and Mexico. In 1990, we bought a cabin on a lake in northern Minnesota,
and spent many busy and fun weekends there. (First we bought a sailboat, then we needed a cabin,
then we bought a motor boat, then we needed boat lifts.............) We had plans for many more trips and
had been on a beautiful trip to Norway in 1999 when Dick died suddenly of a heart attack. He has left
me with wonderful memories, and we all miss him very much. I retired in 2002 to be able to spend more
time with the grandchildren. Since I still own RHR, including the building, I still spend 2-3 times a week
there. This is good for me, as those grandkids abandoned me for school, leaving me with plenty of time.
My dad still lives in Neenah, doing well at 94 in an apartment at the VNA; I visit him once a month. I
continue to travel, and have visited Alaska, China, Peru, Costa Rica, Chile, and Argentina. France,
Holland, Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji. I am scheduled for a trip to Turkey in the fall. I'll go nearly
anywhere I haven't been..... Let me know if you need a traveling companion!!

Jerry and I married in a double ceremony on April 11, 1964 with classmate Iva Hartzheim & Jerry's
brother Tom. We were blessed with two children: Scott & Kari, and five grandchildren. I retired at 55
after 28 1/2 years in banking. I started saving coupons and refunding when the kids were small. It has
now becomes a standard joke when anyone sees us out “She must have a coupon". To keep busy I knit
for some good causes, cross stitch and read. I "watch" four of the grandkids and attend some of their
activities. I have worked at the election polls for about 12 years. My husband continues to make life
interesting. I went to Hawaii with Doris Radandt leaving him with my "Mother” and a cat in "heat".
We're still married!! We both have been blessed with good health so far.

Significant Events for me involve Family, Jobs, Health, and Heart. Family-wise: I “got” to marry my
handsome tuba-playing crush from NHS, with precious results - a daughter, a son, and 5 gr’children. Also
of great “significance’ was Jim’s safe return from Thailand during the VN war! Job-wise: Jim’s teaching at
Menasha High changed to WEMI radio work and eventually to Appleton. There, my own job niche
occurred in an analytical lab. (Originally I’d trained as an RN, ultimately useful in caregiving our dear
parents.) Health-wise: I am so grateful for treatable measures for various foot and back difficulties.
Heart-wise: I was in need of a drastic change. At that traumatic age of 30, I had a marvelous little family
& home and yet found myself angry and discontent within! This led me to hunt for “what was REAL in
this life” and I found the answer while reading Corrie ten Boom’s book “The Hiding Place.” I found that I
had a REAL need to be forgiven and made new, but that only Jesus could do it! My heart did a 180 from
destroying the beautiful gifts of family and friends to being restored and in a continuing process of heart
change (with its “ebbs & flows”). With His loving Presence and the Truth of His Word, ALL other events
have been “significantly” affected . . . AND I know He holds my future here and after death. So I come to
this 50th with a Peace I never dreamed possible, delighted to meet you “oldies,” and in hopes of getting
to know some “newbies.”

In 1961 -62, upon graduation from NHS, I entered Carroll
College where I received a MA degree in Education for grades
K -8. After college I taught one year in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin.
Next, I married my college sweetheart, Phil Spencer, and then
moved to Lombard, IL. After 30 yrs. in the public schools, I retired
in 1994. I missed the kids so when we moved from the Western
suburbs in 1996 to McHenry, IL I decided to tutor students. This
has evolved into a tutoring center in which most of my students have
learning differences. At the same time, I teach at a private Montessori
school during the day where I am the Learning Disabilities Teacher.
So at the present time I have no intentions to retire. Phil and I were
unfortunately unable to have children, so now our family consists of
8 dogs. People think we're nuts - however we really aren't.

After high school, I went to the UW–Madison College of Engineering, rooming the first two years in the
dorms with Bill Bard. I managed to get kicked out of the dorm the second Spring for drinking a couple of
cans of beer in the room and cheering too loudly during a basketball game we were listening to. After
some big–time screwing off (with commensurate grades) I met at the Hasty-Tasty campus tavern a girl
from the little farming community of Mayville. For those that know Sue, you understand how I finally got
my act together and managed to survive Madison with grade-point and self-esteem more intact than I
had a right to. Armed with an engineering degree in jet propulsion I again, funny enough ended up with
Bill Bard at Boeing Propulsion Research in Seattle for my first job. Learned a lot of technical stuff in 5
years there, met many new mentors and friends, and had my eyes opened to lots of different cultures for
the first time. Then Boeing crashed and burned in 1970 and me along with it. It was only serendipitous
that I returned to the dull (in my mind then) Paper Industry in the Valley that my dad had been part of
for his career. At Boeing, though exciting, I was a little minnow in a very big pond but back home in the
paper industry I eventually had the opportunity to become a very big fish (Carp?) in a small pond. Here I
gravitated from engineering into scientific pursuits and, along with some wonderful colleagues, for the
next 35 years did research that we presented world-wide. My company's headquarters were in southern
Germany and I got to travel all over Europe and parts of Asia countless times and make a big network
there. The highlight of my career was being invited on two separate occasions to Sweden for a total of 5
years to fill a newly created Visiting Research Professor Chair at the Royal Institute of Technology (their
version of MIT). Besides the wonderful research opportunities and chance to advise PhD doctorands, this
position afforded me on several occasions to dine with the King and Queen–something in my wildest
dreams back on Congress Street I never would have imagined. Things happened to me in the small but
important Sweden that never could have here at home. Fully retiring a few years ago, these days I have
breakfast every Tuesday morning with NHS and MHS high school buddies where I learn about Walleye
limits and dressing deer, as well as attend with Dale, Leo, Butch, and Richard most every Wednesday
night a Bee Hive Board meeting to ponder many important issues. Of course, I enjoy my two sons'
families with 5 grand-children in Austin, TX and St. Paul, MN. Lots of cycling and golf in the summer and,
in between, 3 months in Mexico. What could be better? I will remain ever grateful for all the wonderful
opportunities I've had and the near absence of bad times–I try every day to appreciate how fortunate I
am. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody at the 50th! Thankfully, this is brief!!

Sorry I can't be with everyone to celebrate our 50th reunion, the timing just didn't work out. After
graduation I attended Carthage College in Kenosha. I spent two years at Carthage and it was here that I
27
met my future husband Marv. We both left to go to different schools not knowing we would meet 7 years
later in Chicago where we got married in April, 1970. In 1971 we moved from the Chicago area to
Florida and settled in Clearwater. My husband loved fishing and this passion turned into a business for
him. He opened a bait & tackle store. Marv worked in the store and did the reel repairs. I did the rod
repairs and built custom rods. I also worked full time as an accounting clerk for several companies over
the next 18 years. In 1989 we moved to Tavares, FL which is about 35 miles NW of Orlando. Marv
opened a new store this time concentrating on rod and reel repairs and selling reel parts throughout the
US. I also continued to work as an accounting clerk for a citrus packing co-op for 15 years. I'm a breast
cancer survivor of 16 years which I'm extremely thankful for. We also survived the 2004-2005 hurricanes
which battered Florida. We had very little damage. Unfortunately, I lost Marv in 2006, this shook my
world to its' very core not only was Marv my husband but my very best friend. We were always there for
each other in the good times and bad. I still live in Tavares with my adopted greyhound Red. I work for
Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter Counties. I'm the assistant to the Business Manager. I enjoy my work
as it keeps me active and it feels wonderful to be working to help people find safe and affordable homes.
Hope you all have a wonderful time at the reunion.

Three lifetimes in art is what 50 years signifies to me. The first lifetime was the early years in art education,
actually graduating (after seven years,) with a BFA from the Chicago Art Institute. When I applied to Graduate
School at Northern Illinois University I became the only art student admitted and approved for their Masters of
Art degree without ever attending a class! During the 70’s I established a career in Printmaking. Loyola
University hired me as an Adjunct Professor and I began teaching one month after graduation. I was part of
the founding of the fledgling art department and over the years I ran the gallery, taught Drawing, Life Drawing,
Printmaking, Color, Design, Pre-Columbian Art & Archaeology and Women in Art History. During the 70’s and
80’s, I was a flaming Feminist, marching and braless for women’s rights in art and life. I helped found the
Women’s Studies Department at Loyola wrote grants and even directed it for a year. In the late 70’s I joined
ARC co-op Gallery, (a women’s gallery) and established a second career as a paper-maker and bookbinder,
echoing my Dad’s job at Kimberly Clark. My first exhibit at the co-op, sold out to Gillman Gallery in Chicago. My
prints and paper works have been purchased by Rockford Museum, Northern Illinois University, The Women’s
Museum, Illinois State Museum and Byer Museum. During the late 70’s my paper works were displayed in a
solo exhibit at the Bergstrom Museum in Neenah. In addition to art, traveling has been my focus with many
trips to Mexico some of which I was a co-tour director/teacher for Loyola’s summer program. Other tour
director trips were to Egypt (with a minor I earned at Loyola in Ancient History,) along with trips to Europe and
China. My first husband, John Wantz and I parted ways during the protracted illness my Dad suffered with
Spinal Cancer. Husband #2, Omer Clarysse introduced me to the second phase of my life with a causal trip to
Fountain Hills, Arizona—it changed my life. The desert vistas and monsoon sunsets became my painting
passion. After 22 years as an Associate Professor with the University, I told Loyola I was intending to leave, but
got cold feet and commuted between Arizona and Chicago for three years, finally leaving in 1993. Omer and I
built a huge home in Fountain Hills complete with a studio. I reinvented my life and creativity as I became an
Artist in Residence at the Phoenix Center, also the President of Arizona Women’s Caucus of Art for 4 years,
along with lecturing and moderating panels at the College Art Association in Seattle, Boston and New York. The
13th year of marriage, Omer contracted Pancreatic Cancer, dying in 9 months. This ushered in 3 of the hardest
years of my life with family disputes over the Will, the home selling out from under me after two weeks on the
market, a garage sale from Hell and Mom’s decline. The third part of my life was the accidental meeting of my
current, wonderful, husband Bill Waldie while we were both studying to be Catholics. Bill saved me during the
terrible period. We married in 1999 and together we have built a great life beginning with Bill’s survival of
serious heart issues, his family bonding together while Bill was in the hospital to move and settle us in our
great, new home, and the start of my 12 years as an Adjunct Professor at Mesa Community College teaching
Color and Design. The experiments I conducted in new art media at the Phoenix Center paid off with a new
career in painting and etching on black clay board depicting my beloved desert landscapes. My Paintings are
28
part of the Fountain Hills Community Center and City Hall art collections. Bill and travel monthly to the Sedona
Arts Center in Northern Arizona. The Center has been a fantastic selling organization for me with exhibits and
commissions. Bill has become my business partner cutting mats, framing my paintings and the most positive
promoter of my work. I’m back in a co-op gallery, this one in Fountain Hills and I am painting up a storm to
prepare myself for a September exhibit at Sedona’s Art Center. Physically my spine is crappy, but I keep
plugging along, grateful for the challenges and blessings along the way and especially Bill, the best blessing of
all. Check out my website, www.justjustine.com (I gave up last names, I have too many).

After graduating from Carroll College with an art major, I moved to Chicago-no job, no money. My first
job was working at Marshall Fields in the credit department. Later I went to Harris Bank where I worked
for 36 years working my way up from the credit department to personal banker to credit products
manager and eventually to Vice President. I left the bank in 2003 to work with my husband, Jim in his
law office.
Jim, a patent and trademark attorney, trained me to be an IP Paralegal which is what I still do today. We
work together out of our home office-no more office politics, no more long commute and I get to sleep
with the boss. We enjoyed living in Chicago and took advantage of what the city had to offer. We have
been able to travel to Germany, and U.K. and cruises to Alaska and down the Danube. Jim has two
daughters, one is disabled with bi-polar disease and the other is divorced with three boys. We moved to
Woodstock, IL in 2005 to be nearer to his oldest daughter and help with our grandchildren. We have had
a great time and Jim is still the love of my life and my best friend.

I had never used a big round urinal before but the men's facility was just remodeled and I was a bit
nervous as the "Guest Speaker" to launch the new factory in Campbellsville, KY. I wished they hadn’t
hyped my visit so much. Then, the doors burst open and about 50 factory workers came in to get ready
for the meeting... and saw me there, taking care of business. I heard them laughing as they went
through one of the stainless steel panels in the wall... to the main bathroom. Some headed for the "sink"
I was using...and washed their hands! That was embarrassing but not as bad as when I stood to address
the plant workers and those very men were in the front row, laughing at the "Big Shot" from New York.
Yet the week wasn't over for me. On Saturday, I had been invited to attend a benefit for The Hunger
Project. Being from Neenah, I wasn't attuned to the ways of the Philadelphia social scene, so had taken
my invitation to a local haberdashery and asked them to dress me appropriately. I had thought "tuxedo"
but they laughed and set me up with white bell-bottom trousers, a blue and white striped oxford shirt, a
navy knit tie, and a formless navy hopsack sports jacket and snappy black loafers. My date and I arrived
in our little silver sports car and the attendant took the keys. As we walked in, my date was getting all
the stares...and she was a beautiful blonde model... so I thought little of it. As I entered the room, I
noticed even the waiters were in black tuxedos! Everyone was formally dressed. I headed for a back
table, when my friend, the only face I knew, ushered me to the front where I was seated with the likes of
John Denver, Harry Chapin, Valerie Harper, Judith Light, and Raul Julia. Everywhere there were TV and
movie personalities... and David in what looked like a yachting outfit! Everyone commented on how
great I looked.. of course... and Raul Julia stood, banged his champagne flute and announced... "May I
introduce the Best Dressed Man of the Evening, David McKellips!" I cannot describe the shade of red I
turned and when I met any of that group at later events, they all remembered me as "the guy in the
sailor suit!"

I met my husband shortly after graduating and was married in April, 1965. My husband passed away
from cancer after 33 years of marriage. We have 3 children; my son Donald and my daughters Debra and
Denise. I have five beautiful grandchildren; one granddaughter and four grandsons. Ages 22 mos. to 14
yrs. of age. My family moved to Florida in 1973 and I have enjoyed living here and raising our family.
We all live near each other and enjoy spending a lot of time together. My husband and I became partial
owners in a Swimming Pool business along with other family members. After a while we sold our part
and went into other interests. I continued to work in the family business for 19 yrs. while raising our
family. When my children went to college, I worked for a large company as a Sales Coordinator
for 15 salesmen and helped run four of their rock yards in Florida. I am now retired but I work part time
for Home Shopping Network from my home office and really find it very interesting. Favorite football
team is still the Green Bay Packers.

I've had a very conventional 50 years since 1961. After earning the required degrees, I taught university
34
college English literature courses until it became clear that the jobs I wanted would have required a
commuter marriage. James, meanwhile, established himself as a mathematics professor and entered
local politics when we settled in PA. I went on to other projects, such as helping to institute, and then
run for 30 years, a Victorian Christmas celebration here in town; taking up ongoing maintenance/
restoration of our 1907 Queen Anne house (I strip with the best!); becoming a good enough gardener
(mostly of the seat-of-the-pants variety) to be on a couple prestigious garden tours; and contributing to
cal historic preservation efforts. Not very exotic ---- but we did have one almost-hippie summer that we
now think of as the best adventure ever, and one that we experienced at the just the right age. In 1970
we took what could have been a house down payment and went to Europe for three months with a brand
new MGB and no set itinerary. It was perspective altering. I can look back and say "Whatever I
expected, and achieved--or didn't--I'm satisfied with where I am now."

I was married on August 19, 1961. (Note the date). After which, my husband Bill and I moved to St
Louis, MO where he completed his Doctor of Chiropractic Degree. We moved to Clintonville, WI in 1965
37
where he started his practice. We had four children; three boys and one girl. I worked with Bill in his
chiropractic office for almost the entire 40 years we were in practice. He suffered a stroke in 2002 and
another in 2003 that left his left hand paralyzed. So since then, our life has changed. Most of my life is
centered around some care of him. Although he can walk with a cane, it is limited. I am well, healthy
and enjoy flower gardening, playing bridge, cooking and crafts. We have 6 grandchildren. While most
live several hours away, the youngest lives here in town and we get to spend at least one day a week
with her. I am sorry to miss the class reunion, but with our 50th wedding anniversary this weekend, we
are celebrating with the entire family.

If you remember, I did not graduate with the class because I lacked 2 credits. I took a correspondence course
with UW Madison in Latin and scored an ‘A’ (much to my father’s amazement). (He expected me to work on a
chain gang somewhere). I suspect that there were a number of your parents who felt the same way about
me! After getting my diploma, I was admitted to Menlo College in California and left Neenah in June 1962 for
the San Francisco area. Menlo was considered the backdoor to Stanford for all the kids whose parents had
enough money to send them there and who had jacked around in high school like I did. This was a great
place for me with lots of personal attention and motivation. I managed to graduate in ’64 and transfer to the
University of the Pacific in Stockton California. UOP was another great place for me with again lots of
attention. I took two classes in Political Science with three other students. Not many hiding places in those
classes. Graduation came in June 1966 and then on to the Army – the only branch of the military that would
take me into Officer Candidate School. I did my training at Fort Knox, was commissioned in May 1967 as an
Armor 2d Lt. and stationed at Fort Carson (Colorado Springs) in an infantry company. Despite this gross error
in assignments, (The object of being an Armor officer is that you do not walk like the infantry does.) it turned
out to be a wonderful experience mainly because we had a great battalion commander. In February 1968, I
went skiing one Sunday, went to a bar afterward and over beer and brats met a very nice young woman who
had also been skiing. We got along very well and after a month, I asked her to marry me and in June we had
a military wedding with all the bells and whistles including crossed swords on the way out of the church. 43
years later she still puts up with me and I am the lucky one of the marriage. She is a RN who has had a career
in public health and, since 1995, as head of her own consulting company specializing in compliance issues in
Medicare HMOs. I left the service in May 1969 and got a sales job with Crown Zellerback Paper Corp in
Portland, OR. After two years I realized that I did not like selling toilet paper door to door and left the
company to apply to law school. I was accepted by McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, CA and started in
September 1972. In my final year our son Chris was placed with us and we adopted him in June 1976. (Sarah
came along in 1978.) After four years, I graduated in 1976 and after passing the bar exam was offered a
position with the school. As part of my duties, I supervised a clinical program where students practiced
administrative law in such things as unemployment insurance appeals. This was very satisfying to me and
started me on my career path in clinical legal education. After three years I transferred to the school’s main
clinic which involved general practice areas with an emphasis on family law. After fourteen years, I left
McGeorge to follow my wife to a new position in Southern California. In 1991, I began teaching at Western
State University College of Law as well as having my own private in 2002. Since ’02, I have been the Director
of Clinical Education at WSU until this month when I retired. In 2002, we bought a home in a small town
south of Palm Springs, called Borrego Springs. It is mostly a snow bird community with 3000 full time and
10,000 in season (Oct – May). After ripping out just about everything, we rebuilt the house to our liking and it
has become our retirement home. It sits next to a golf course, so I can go out every day and dig up the
grounds with what is laughingly called my golf game. So while retirement was supposed to be sitting, reading,
drinking gin & tonics and golf, etc., that changed a bit when in October our daughter gave birth to our first
grandson, Jason Brian Roberts. Because Sarah has a number of problems, she is unable to care for Jason so
we have taken on that responsibility and will adopt him in the fall. He’s an easy child and we love taking care
of him. Makes one young all over again. I am looking forward to the reunion, renewing old acquaintances
and sharing memories.

By God’s grace; life has created accomplishments to share. The most precious gifts to witness are our
three adult children (Jack Bogrand and I are their parents). Each of them is healthy, has an education,
work, and loves their lives. We’re blessed with grandchildren; three year-old identical twin girls and an
18 month-old girl in the same family, who I see routinely.
I worked as a Registered Nurse in a
variety of positions, mostly full-time for over 35 years; I retired and left MN for NC when Bill Cogger and I
were married in 2002. My labors of love are writing (I’ve had one article published), painting with
watercolors or acrylics, and spiritual companioning. I’m a certified spiritual director and have been a
member of Spiritual Directors International for over 15 years. In October of 2010, I made an interfaith
(Jewish, Islamic, Christian) pilgrimage to Israel and Palestine with 40 other pilgrims from around the
world. One of our most moving moments was planting an olive tree; singing Shalom, Shalaam, Peace,
near Bethlehem, as a shepherd and his sheep came from the hills into the field.

So hard to believe it has been 50 years! Many joys...Many sorrows...and isn't this what unites us, after all
these years? After H.S., I spend my first year in the Holy Spirit Convent (Techny, IL). After that I
attended St. Louis University, and graduated from Marquette University. I married to Tom Long, we
began our life together in Milwaukee, where our first son was born. We later moved to Appleton, joining
both of our extended families, and continuing to raise two more sons. My family has been my top priority.
In the early years, raising our three sons; in the later years, my husband whelming task of caregivers for
my Mother (with dementia) and other illnesses, and for my younger sister who was diagnosed with M.S.,
25 years ago. We cared for them together in their house until April 14 of this year, when my sister passed
away from leukemia. I thank God for the joys and the sorrows.
They all helped to make me who I am.

Got married in 1962 to Gemma Weyenberg. We had three children; Kathy, Michael and Douglas. We
moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1968 where I worked as a machinist and went to school part time. I received
an associate degree in Accounting. We moved back to Neenah in 1972 and I sold insurance until 1989. I
then started a part time job as a videographer taping legal depositions. In 1994 my wife Gemma and I
started a court reporting business with my wife Gemma doing all the typing of transcripts. Gemma
passed away from cancer in 2001. I lived alone with my son Michael who has CP and is autistic until
2003 when I met my wife Nola on line. We were married in 2004. Nola has a son one year younger than
Michael. Her son has down syndrome and is diabetic. The four of us all live together in Neenah.
Everybody has their up and downs, but on the whole, life has been good to me and the older I get, the
better it seems to be. Love retirement.

I started work with American Can right after graduation and am still working after all these many years.
And almost as many company names changes (now it's Graphic Packaging in IL). I met the man of my
dreams, Jim, in 1963 and we married in 1967 and had our son (Matt) in 1968. Briefly enjoyed dog
showing our pets (various breeds). We now enjoy golfing and traveling to Charlotte, NC to visit our son
and his wife. We have a granddaughter living in Neenah who just graduated from UWO. Hope to retire in
the next year or so.

we're working on selling some for them to help out with college. It took up quilting 7 yrs. ago so that
keeps me busy. I've been retired for 10 yrs., but have no problem staying busy even if that means
eating popcorn & watching TV.!!

so we moved to Tacoma, WA. Soon after moving there, he was sent to Viet Nam for one year. In 1966,
we moved to Newport News, VA until he was discharged. In 1967 our daughter, Darla was born and a
son Scott was born in 1970. We have done some traveling, but haven't been able to since 2009 when
Darwin was diagnosed with esophageal cancer. He has had radiation, chemo and surgery. Thankfully, he
is still here! We have three grandchildren; Dillon 19, Nick 16 and Megan 11 and a wonderful son-in-law
Gregg. Last year, after living in the same house for 42 years, we moved to Darboy and love it!

Upon graduation from high school, I attended three University of Wisconsin campuses–finally
graduating in 1967 with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. I then enlisted in the United States
Air Force (USAF) and attended Officer Training School at Lakeland Air Force Base (AFB), San
Antonio, TX. I was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 1967, returned to Neenah, and married Joan
Gehrke in November 1967. We then proceeded back to San Antonio, TX, for undergraduate
pilot training at Randolph Air Force Base, TX. I graduated from undergraduate pilot training in
March 1969, and Joan and I went to Altus AFB, OK for training to fly the C-141 heavy-lift jet
transport. My first C-141 assignment was to Charleston AFB, SC, where our daughter, Andrea, was born.
While flying the C-141, I got to go to many locations worldwide. After a year at Charleston, I received
orders to helicopter transition training at Shepherd AFB, TX, and then to Elgin AFB, FL, for H-53
helicopter ground school. My first job flying helicopters was at Patrick AFB, FL where I was a member of
the Launch Recovery Team for Apollo space flight launches from Cape Canaveral. Also while assigned at
Patrick, I was selected to be one of the pilots on the first trans-Atlantic ferry flight of a H-53 helicopter
from the states to the United Kingdom. After 15 months at Patrick AFB, I was assigned to fly H-53 Jolly
Green Giant rescue helicopters at Danang Air Base, South Vietnam. While enroute to Vietnam, I
completed basic, jungle, and water survival programs. While at Danang, I became a combat rescue
instructor pilot. I also was fortunate to have rescued a downed F-4 Phantom Weapons System Officer
who already had four enemy aircraft kills to his credit. He returned to his unit and shortly thereafter was
instrumental in shooting down his fifth enemy aircraft, thus becoming an “Ace.” He was recalled back to
the states and in route stopped at Danang and threw a party honoring me for rescuing him which
enabled him to become an “Ace.” In December 1972 my unit at Danang was moved to northern Thailand.
After being overseas for a year, I returned to the states to a desk job as a Central Base Personnel Officer
at KI Sawyer AFB MI and flew a T-29 base support aircraft part-time. I later became chief of that
organization. Our son, Brian, was born in Michigan. In 1976, our family was transferred to Hill AFB, UT,
where I again flew H-53 helicopters and became an Instructor Flight Examiner doing mid-air retrieval of
military packages descending by parachute. I was also involved in numerous classified projects. We spent
11 years at Hill and retired in September 1987. I was then recruited by Northrop Grumman Corporation
as a Systems Test Pilot and Flight Test Director. This necessitated a move to the Los Angeles, CA, area.
After 5 years in the LA area, Northrop Grumman transferred us back to Ogden where I was a Test Site
Manager. When the program I was working terminated, I transferred to another division working ICBM
46
guidance systems in Ogden. When this contract was modified I elected to leave Northrop Grumman
rather than to return to the LA area. I then worked for a number of government contractors supporting
the F-16 fighter worldwide and finally retired from active employment in 2006. I’m now actively engaged
in working on a 40+ year honey-due list!

Hello fellow classmates. Jack and I have raised our three children two boys and a girl; Chris, Craig and
Cathy. We enjoyed being involved with their sports, music, and gymnastics. Now our lives have gone to
the dogs. We started with one dog, a Lhasa Apso. She was not a good dog because she was not trained
and ruled us. I was not going to have another dog, but as fate would have it we got another dog named
Pepsi. He was a Shih Tzu. When we put our Lhasa down we go another Shih Tzu and named him Cola
when we started the Soda Pups. We decided to get some people training to help our two dogs. As fate
would have it, we rescued a Pomeranian from the Neenah Animal Shelter and her name was Lacey but to
go with the pop theme, we called her RC. So when taking classes RC was so intelligent I began
competing in obedience trials and then agility. At that time Nita Woulf was working tor Theda Clark
Medical Hospital and she was starting up a Pet Therapy program and asked if I would be interested. Jack
and I joined the volunteers at Theda in 1996. Currently we are do Pet Therapy at five hospitals in the
area. We also do a 45 minute dog show called the Soda Pups Dog show. We do a safety presentation at
schools, entertain at Nursing homes, and follow the Library theme at Libraries. We have put down six
dogs so far and have four left. The six in doggie heaven are Tonya, Pepsi, Cola, RC, Cinder, and Mellow
Yellow. Now we have left are all Pomeranians Squirt, Sierra Mist, Dr. Pepper, and Ginger Ale.
Yes our dogs have taught us all we need to know about life!

I enjoy spending my time working on projects around the house and doing planting and yard work.
We have lived in Arizona for over 17 years and enjoy it. The summers may be hot, but it sure

beats the freezing cold temps and all that snow you have in Wisconsin. This climate is better
for the arthritis too. Guess we are all getting old and feeble. If you are ever out this way, give us a call.

I attended Wisconsin State College-Oshkosh where I obtained a degree in Library Science. I
worked my way through school at places such as Plywood Oshkosh, Marathon Corp. and the U.S.
Post Office. After graduation, I moved to Cleveland, OH where I began work at the Cleveland
Public Library, and also met my husband-to-be. After our marriage in 1969, we moved to
Nashville, TN where Tom worked for DuPont. While there, we had 2 daughters, Lisa & Margaret. I
was able to tour parts of Europe while Tom worked in Luxembourg and I did some family tree
research in Denmark. In 1977, we moved to Seaford, DE (Home of world's first nylon plant). Our
son, David was born here. Fortunately, I was able to stay home to care for my children for many
years. I re-entered the work force about 1990, about the time of my divorce, starting with the
Sussex County Dept. of Libraries as a catalog librarian, where I still am. That's my day job! My
passion is sharing groundbreaking discoveries for Wellness from a social entrepreneurial company
dedicated to affecting the lives of the millions of children suffering from inadequate nutrition.

Editor's note.....we would be remiss if we did not include this illustrative autobiography!
Significant Happenings Over the Past 50 Years
After a stifling, religious childhood, I couldn’t wait for freedom and vowed to experience everything I possibly could
for the rest of my life. I feel pretty good about having achieved that goal, so far.
•
Got fired in 1961 for being a “N----- Lover” and lost PGA Scholarship as a result. Didn’t think of
myself as a Civil Rights person, but guess I was.
•
Seven years of college; transferred 5 times and changed major 13 times – still no degree. Hated
every minute except the parties.
•
Worked as a writer for two newspapers
•
5 year careers with Pitney-Bowes, American Can, Ingersoll-Rand, and New England Motor Freight
(Philadelphia, Minneapolis, New York City)
•
Wrote sales development text and taught in 13 countries as well as US
•
First person in the world to teach seminars simultaneously broadcast to three US cities via satellite
– AT&T’s first commercial use of the first satellite in 1977
•
Connected with famous Psychologist (Dr Herb Hamsher) to write sales text. He was “shrink to the
stars” and got me involved with Harry Chapin, John Denver, Judith Light, Valerie Harper, Raul Julia, and others.
Focused on The Hunger Project.
•
Dated Judith Light and escorted her to Emmy Awards at Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC
•
Spent time with Buckminster Fuller and worked on project to provide cheap, dome housing for
poor in China
•
Learned and taught Critical Thinking/Personal Psychology Seminar to major businesses in 23
countries over 6 years – Time Magazine hired me to deliver seminars in
Borneo/Singapore/Malaysia/Thailand/Hong Kong areas
•
Contracted to write “Inner Game of Selling” with Timothy Gallwey (“Inner Game of Tennis”) –
Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich company went bankrupt before we could complete project – never published
•
Contracted to write Biography of famous artist, Noel Quinn who was personal friend of Pablo
Picasso, Gertrude Stein, and knew Adolph Hitler. He invented a system for blind people to “see” art work. Quinn
died before project was completed – never published
•
Made it completely around the world two times (a childhood goal)
•
Ran a coffee house – Moonshadows – in Waukesha
•
Became a House Father for my old fraternity at Carroll College ending up getting kicked off campus
with the fraternity – (Great fun!)
•
Entered the movie business in 1995 working on three theater released, horrible movies: “Yellow
Pages”, “Natalie’s Rose”, and “Reggie’s Prayer” (starring Reggie White, Brett Favre, Mike Holmgren, many other
NFL greats, and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi from “The Karate Kid”), and Cylk Cozart (“Eraser”, “White Men Can’t
Jump”, others), and Malcolm Jamal Warner (a real scumbag, IMO). All titles available on DVD, but don’t buy
them!
•
Raised $4.6 million by myself to shoot and produce “Reggie’s Prayer” by making phone calls
randomly, starting with friends. Took 38 days. One man finally invested the entire amount; current owner of
Colorado Avalanche hockey team. (He lost about $4.6 million!)
•
Close personal friendship with Pat Morita for 10 years until his death in 2005. He was a great
friend and a huge talent; very, very funny.
•
Eight years selling residential real estate and coaching other Realtors in Milwaukee
•
Fell while listing a home and injuries have crippled me for life… and didn’t even get the listing.
•
Looking for more adventure and influencing three sons and six grandchildren to squeeze as much
adventure and learning into their lives as possible.
•
Struggling to write a book about my adventures. Having moved… physically changing addresses…
exactly 80 times. May add to that before I’m done.
•
Found my best friend, Tom Mott, at our Reunion in 2000 after losing track of him for 30 years.
Not much else. Dave McKellips

“When I taught, I wanted to give love & attention.” So spoke Miss Firkus (as she was known to most of us) in a
conversation in Autumn 2010. She was then 88 and living in an assisted facility. “I have some dementia < but good
long-term memory>. After 2 hip replacements, God did a miracle for me; I walked with no pain after the first day! I
now run down the hall to the ‘angle’ & then walk ‘like a lady’ into the dining room.” She may be someone who moved
quickly all her life – teaching a full hour of sewing or cooking or later expanded Home Ec with rapid fire instructions
but with “heart.” She eventually taught student teachers from UWO and UWST. In the summers she worked at the
bank or traveled. In the 1980’s one of her students introduced Helen to the student’s father, whom Helen married.
They had 6 happy years until his sudden death from a heart attack. After retirement, Helen followed a longtime
desire to move to OK where she became very active in Christian fellowship and study. Ever the hospitable hostess,
you can imagine she was well known for her giving heart and delicious meals. She lives quietly now but is very
grateful for her blessings and the care there.
William (Bill) Haidlinger
1013 Michigan St
Oshkosh WI 54902
(Suggestion: make any notes/cards to him using large and dark print for his diabetic sight.)
At NHS 1958 – 1963 teaching General Science, Biology, and Chemistry
(also one year as Dean of Boys. “It was like being a cop!”)
After Mr. Haidlinger had served in the Army during the Korean War, he attended UW Oshkosh on the GI bill. Several
things mixed together to land him at NHS in 1958: a teaching assistantship in Chemistry, a work study program, and
a need for a temporary replacement for Mr. Christoph who had some surgery. Eventually he stayed until 1963. Later
his skills paved the way for Research & Development work at American Can and in education at Fox Valley Technical
College. At FVTC he taught and created the curriculum for the Pulp & Paper Chemical Technology program. He
married but is now widowed, no children. He stayed in Oshkosh where he lives independently at age 82 despite his
reliance on a wheelchair and in having some diabetic needs. Humor is not forgotten with such stories as the sodium
explosions in Lake Winnebago (and again every time it came down!) and solid fuel rocket experiments in Oshkosh
parking lots. A classic is the tale of his driving Mr Spoo (another NHS employee living in Oshkosh who owned a
Chrysler Imperial!) to and from their jobs through the winter snows in Mr H’s VW Bug! Justifiably there is a good
laugh at the Oshkosh end of the phone AND one at this writer’s end of it too
Harland Carl

Teaching and coaching at NHS ’58-’66 - Phys Ed, Asst Football Coach and Head Track Coach
Football – an integral part of Harland Carl’s life from his early days playing for the Chicago Bears to his return to
Madison from where he’d gotten his Masters. This time, he was there as Asst Football coach and Mr Braun always felt
he should have been Head Coach!! Coach Carl called those Madison days “probably the most stressful of jobs” with
52
the black and white issues on campus then and the pressure for the team to win. For 10 years afterward, he was
involved with Sales for what became School Specialties. Sales in sporting goods would take him all over the state and
the UP. And during this time he and his brothers developed and manufactured a hardy, basketball carrier, its
manufacturing being done in Wausau. His family consists of 1 daughter and 3 sons and cause re-visits to Madison
where 2 sons live. At 80 years of age during this autumn 2010 phone conversation, he was feeling quite fit! He has
fond memories of Mr Braun with whom he coached while at NHS. And as far as teaching, “I miss the kids!”

“How lucky I was to get a job at Neenah High School in 1957!
I loved teaching there as well as the community itself.” With one more year of teaching in MN, her official teaching
career changed to that of a Lutheran pastor’s wife in 1960. For the next 18 years they lived in a variety of
communities between IL and MN with their three children, and although they seemed to move about in a small area
of the nation, their international travel ranged from Israel to Scandinavia to Germany and England. By far the most
unusual place they lived was Tanzania in East Africa where she taught English 1 year and where “we experienced
living in a 3rd world country w/o car, dependable electricity or water . . . and loved it!” Now as a retired couple in a
Minneapolis Senior Living Co-op, they keep active with volunteer work, reading, walking & biking along the
Mississippi, and cross country skiing (except for the year of the fractured ankle!) “NOW: there are more countries
with exciting current events and financial & military crises in THIS era’s history, than were in the 1950’s! [and to you
former students:] Even though many of you are retired, keep reading and staying involved . . . politically and
socially. Live well! [Although] I will not be able to attend, I have very fond memories of Neenah, the school and kids
and faculty - it would be fun to be there. Best wishes to all of you.”

NHS 1957-1960 Physical education
Gym class finally became fun! . . . thanks to our young, smiling and energetic teacher. For 3 years, the girls of the
class of ’61 learned a variety of sports in a non-threatening environment which encouraged numerous girls to stay
after school to enjoy even more in team playing. It was called GAA (Girls Athletic Association)! This was the
fruitfulness of Miss Mertens who taught at NHS from 1957-1960. We missed her in our senior year, but she had
moved on to other schools and grades as well – Madison, Seattle, Fond du Lac, an encore in Seattle and eventually
settled in La Crosse in the UW system. Having gotten her masters in Students Affairs Adm, she enjoyed 26 years of
service in the Residence Life Office, Admissions Office, and the Career Services Office. La Crosse may have been her
place of retirement, with her mother joining her there for 29 years, but sports and European/US travel “moved” her
about also. Exercise is still a 5 day a week activity including a love of cross-country skiing, tennis, and swimming.
Those of us who wore those lovely blue gym suits will have the pleasure of her company once again at the Saturday
banquet, hopefully with other more delightful memories. She almost stayed, back in 1960 as she recalled, “I enjoyed
Neenah so much, knowing if I didn’t leave then, I’d never leave!”
Ken Anderson
134 Regent Pl
Neenah WI 54956
NHS 1955-65 – taught Speech and English; directed multiple plays & musicals
Perhaps you never knew that English is a second language for Ken Anderson. Having had immigrant Swedish parents
and even his returning to Sweden with his mother briefly during the Depression have cemented this heritage within.
Also within is the heart for The Stage, from early choir participation to his mother’s story-telling to an early
production of HMS Pinafore (during which his high voice changed to its present depth). To further expand this
passion, after NHS his career turned to 33 years at UW Fox Valley and the yield of 300 plays and musicals (including
20 Gilbert and Sullivan productions and 10 highlights of the same). He didn’t “merely” direct and teach, but joined in
as an actor and writer, the latter in various forms. One such authored production was “Dairy Home Companion”
53
performed at the Appleton PAC. He and his wife (a psychology major from Lawrence, their alma mater) raised 4
children who were often brought into his plays, along with the neighborhood kids! Some fresh adaptations of his
creativity were “firsts” in the area - lip-syncing for sore throats and video taping the conductor of a pre-recorded
musical soundtrack. But sports too were creative ventures – initiating the UWFV soccer program and a Midwest
handball club. Now his support has turned in greater measure to his wife who is in a nursing home for care. She is
the recipient of his creative mini-outings. In the event that you see him and don’t catch his trademark voice, his smile
and crop of white hair are still unmistakable!

Unknown to either, the acceptance of teaching positions in Neenah, WI, meant meeting face to face even though
they may have passed each other numerous times—in Minneapolis, where Doug caddied at a country club two blocks
from Sue’s front door and in Northfield, MN, where they attended and graduated from different colleges! In 1959,
again unaware of the other, they took teaching positions in Neenah. Sue taught art in the 10 elementary schools, ½
hour in each per day. She lived on Congress St., about half a block from the apartment that Doug rented when he
began his work at the high school teaching German and English and assisting the coaching staff of the football team.
By the time they were engaged, they knew they would eventually have to leave Neenah due to the system’s THEN
policy not to hire married female teachers. And so, in 1960, they married and only Doug continued to teach for two
more years. Their son Forrest was born—in Appleton after which they went to Madison for Doug’s grad program.
Later they settled into 38 years at UW-Eau Claire. Doug was professor of English and Chair of the English Department
for 11 years. Sue became a landscape and assemblage artist. During their time at UWEC, they were resident
directors for study abroad programs in Denmark, Scotland and London. Both enjoyed the traveling (including Russia,
China and most of western and eastern Europe) as did their family of two sons. For nearly 20 years they have been
renewing their Neenah memories with yearly visits to cheer on their son, an annual Fox Cities Marathon participant.
This reunion, we former students will enjoy their visit as well! (A summary of a 9/22/10 phone interview)
Mrs Faye Lotlikar
1720 Avian Hill Pl
Lincoln CA 95648
Taught NHS Business Education Jan – June 1961
With a husband in a doctoral program at UW Madison’s University Hospital, the only teaching job she could find was
in Neenah for the week days and back to Madison for the weekends! This was the state of affairs for the Lotlikars' in
1961 from January to June. She remembers “it was a change from Oregon. Madison was COLD!” At that time the
Neenah School District had a policy of not hiring married women in preference to bread-winning men. “They must
have been desperate, as I was hired to replace the previous instructor who was marrying in December.” Fortunately
another position opened up in the Madison area where she taught for the following five years. At the completion of
his program, Dr and Mrs Lotlikar settled in Philadelphia. There she taught in several situations including a Junior
College, plus doing guidance counseling. Now in CA, they enjoy the many opportunities in their retirement
community. Their son, an internist, and their 2 granddaughters live in Baltimore. Although pleased to be remembered
for the reunion, Mrs Lotlikar had to decline the invitation due to a busy summer schedule of travel. (Summarized
from several 2011 contacts with Mrs Lotlikar)
Joe Braun – A Tribute
715 Congress St
Neenah WI 54956
NHS 1946-1976 taught General Math and Science, Algebra; coached football and baseball; started
the Neenah Recreational program for baseball; inducted into The Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame,
Milwaukee
Many of us have been privileged to know Mr Braun during his nearly 100 years (in autumn 2011). We can
say “privileged” because of his character, his most consistent quality, despite Life’s numerous opposing factors.
Raised in the Algoma area, the death of his mother in early youth required some foster home care and when money
at graduation was non-existent, the high school coaches saw him to be a hard working young man and arranged a
job for him to work his way through River Falls State College. Teaching jobs in the late 30’s were treasures, one of
54
which was facilitated by a professor who recommended him to the Frederic school superintendent – they knew hard
workers were treasures too, as was his salary of $100 per month to teach math and coach football, baseball and
boxing (92 lbs being the heavy weight at the time!)
It was there in Frederic that he met a young widow who was teaching and raising two young daughters.
Three weeks later they were engaged, and shortly, were married, the honeymoon being a fishing shack for the
weekend. “We paid $3 for food, lodging and a boat. I took Helen fishing. After one time she said, ‘Is this supposed to
be fun?” I got the message!” <and he laughs!!> The moving and the jobs began from WI to Ohio back to WI (and
working with Art Paff who would become a life long friend). Then he was “given” an all-expense-paid-3-year-Navaltour of the Pacific during WWII. (He was seasick for 8 of the 9 cruises!)
It was after the war that Mr Paff’s own job was in Neenah and he knew just the kind of man to recommend
to the school superintendent, thus situating Mr B in Neenah’s high school system to the completion of his teaching
career. By then this father of 2 energetic daughters was joined by a son and eventually another daughter. Housing
was sparse during postwar years so they had to live in the field South of NHS where he would eventually coach
baseball. Their home was a Quonset hut of corrugated galvanized steel having a semicircular cross section, often
20x48’. The five of them occupied half of one. As soon as possible the Brauns purchased a lot on Congress St near
the edge of town (just 2 lots from Cecil St) and began to build, by hand, a modest cement block home. A pregnant
Mrs B “buttered the blocks” for Mr B and slowly their home emerged behind Mr Poellinger’s lot and eventual home.
The Brauns had a garden that was a trademark of theirs – tomato plants that flourished having their roots
well fed by the sheephead fish buried under them and raspberry plants galore that supplied fruit for wonderful
canned preserves and her famous jam. The produce was always shared, often around their table of guests.
Hospitality was also a Braun trademark. The teaching at NHS was also a “garden” of sorts from which sprang
wonderful life-long friends and . . . hard work. Eventually Mr B’s classes turned to the pleasure of Algebra when Miss
Raine moved to Madison. But prior to that, the “general” subjects were often taught to uninterested students; that
too was Work! One student he recalls requested help which he was all to willing to give. Over the ensuing year she
went from lousy to best! “She wrote, thanking me for teaching!”
Study halls of ~60 were a part of the package as well. There were “rules for all, no matter how tall . . . one
football player was 6’4” . . . I laid down the Law; just like prison!” In football coaching he always worked with the
linemen . . . one of our classmates remembers that Mr B looked slight but was really strong! And in baseball, Mr B
was demonstrating a knuckle ball and the same classmate said, “He burned that knuckle ball into my glove!!”
Perhaps unbeknownst to most, Mr Braun played baseball professionally in the late ‘30’s for a summer. The team was
the Blue Devils, an AAA Farm Team; the pay was $60/mo plus food “on the road.”
Summers for school teachers were not vacations. One job in “UNair-conditioned pleasure” [description added by
editor] was in a Menomonie WI cannery. It required two weeks of training in Chicago to learn just the right
adjustment for the sealing of the cans. This was to prevent spoilage and the right environment for the vegetables to
continue cooking in the cans after being sealed. Part of the summer also, thankfully, included fishing. Later Mr
Braun’s dream of living on Lake Winnebago’s shore came true. With the limit for walleyed pike being 5 per day, he
recalls hitting that limit 18 times one summer. Again these fish were shared with many guests in wonderful fish fries!
But the summers became a sharing of another of his loves . . . baseball. In 1946 he began a summer
recreation program, biking (no car) from park to park for several leagues from 10 & under on up to high school.
(“The high school [league] provided a good opportunity to scout for the HS team!”) He himself played on the Neenah
Presbyterian Church team in the summer adult program – with the lights shining on the diamond at the Rec, the
clapping & cheering of the fans scattered in the bleachers, the slap of the ball in the glove, the call of the ump –
many of us recall the pleasure of a warm summer night at the ball park!
Over the years, Mr B has watched many a Packer game (with his inevitable opinions!), often with his family
whom he has thoroughly enjoyed - (their talented children and spouses and all the grandchildren). Eventually the
great gr’children began to ride their bikes to visit him! He and Mrs B had always made a point of visiting many old
friends who needed cheering, always bringing some gift to share, such as several plump, red tomatoes! Mr Schultz,
our NHS era’s band director, was one such recipient, being housebound in his later years.
The gardens have continued to be an area that some would call “work” but that Mr B calls the pleasure of
planting and producing, and then there is his special flower garden, a memorial to Mrs Braun. He has continued to
teach all who know him . . . about living well. As Coach Carl said about him, [He was] always a gentleman, [had]
great discipline with the kids, and worked well with me – [he] listened . . . One of my favorites! His nearly [then,
autumn 2010] 99 years can be attributed to good, clean living!” [Ed. Note: and to hard work, commitment, and
giving to others!]

NHS 1949-1983 Teaching Modern Problems, Economics, Government, US History, and
Environmental Problems; Chair of Social Studies, Debate Coach; Pep Club Advisor; Asst Track
Coach; Co-founder of Student-Faculty-Adm-Council; Advisor to Hiking & Outing Club
“From early on I wanted to be a teacher. But first I had to come to grips with some basic ideas about teaching and
learning [such as] . . . ‘Nothing worth knowing can be taught . . . no learning without pain . . . no easy short-cut . . .
what each student learns and understands differs greatly – [i.e. what I] hear . . . see . . . do . . . what the student
hasn’t learned the teacher hasn’t taught.’ “ Since Mr Dunwiddie turned 90 within this last year, he has a sizable
history in preparatory education: UW Madison (BA) and Ohio State (Masters) to qualify him to teach ten social
studies related courses; WWII (Navy); 2 high school teaching jobs in Reedsburg and then Hartford WI (Little Ten
Conference-winning debate team) . . . all before coming to Neenah. In Neenah, he and Mr Gundlach developed and
team-taught one of the first Environmental Problems courses for high school students in the nation. In WI, he was a
member of the state Social Studies Curriculum Comm. And nationally, Mr Dunwiddie was a member of the National
Council for the Social Studies (writing some “how-to-do-it” articles for the NCSS monthly publication); solicited for his
“teacher’s” reactions to the national publication Senior Scholastic (thus, on the Editorial Advisory Board); and
authored the textbook Problems of Democracy (widely used in classrooms in all 50 states). The latter “helped put all
four of our kids through college.” In 1961 a wonderful honor was bestowed which benefited the entire family– the allexpense-paid-award of the John Hay Fellowship to attend Harvard University. “We lived in Natick [MA] during the
school year, traveled and camped and hiked along the US east coast in the summers of 1961 and 1962.” Then a very
“Significant Event” occurred in 1964 – the honor of being named Wisconsin Teacher of the Year and being one of ten
finalists for National Teacher of the Year! Upon retirement, he and his wife enjoyed 10 elder hostels while traveling an
extraordinary 28 countries!![Ed. Note: this is a packed 90 years for a man who still sleeps little, utilizing many hours
of his 24 hour day. Thus he will have plenty of time to visit with us late into the evening at the Banquet. Note also:
this has been a much minimized summary of his personal document.]
