Current NFHS rules will govern all play with the following exceptions:
Equipment & Players
1. All players must show their CWU Student I.D. card to the scorekeeper when
he/she report their number, prior to each game.
2. All team members must wear numbered jerseys that are the same color. The
Intramural program will provide numbered team jerseys for all the teams. If a
team does not wish to wear the jerseys supplied by the IM Sports program, they
may wear a jersey of their choice, but replacement jerseys must be numbered.
3. Each team should furnish a game ball. Basketballs may be checked out from the
on-site supervisor with a valid CWU I.D. card.
4. A game will be forfeited if either team is not ready to start at the scheduled game
time.
5. Teams consist of 5 players with a minimum of 4 players required to start a game;
if the opposing team decides to wait for the other team’s players to arrive, the
game clock will begin and the team has 5 minutes to field the minimum number
of players.
6. Substitutions may only be made in a dead ball situations and an official must
wave a substitute in. Any substitutions on the fly will result in a technical foul.
7. Competitive teams will be allowed to have 2 former varsity basketball players
that are at least 1 year removed from play on their team. However, only 1 may
play at a time. Former varsity basketball players that are at least 5 years removed
from play will be allowed to play with no restrictions.
8. Recreational teams will only be allowed to have 1 player that plays in
competitive as well on their team.
Timing & Game Rules
1. All games will consist of four 7-minute quarters with a stopped clock on all foul
calls. Clock does not stop for made baskets.
a. Mercy Rule: If a team is losing by more than 20 points in the 4th
quarter, time will not stop.
2. Half-time will be three (3) minutes in duration.
3. Two time outs are allowed per team per game. Time outs can be used whenever.
4. A score/time keeper will be provided for each game. Only the team captain may
request a check of the scorebook or scoreboard. All such requests should be made
during a dead ball situation in which the officials will stop the clock. If no error is
found, the requesting team will be charged a time-out.
5. During a free-throw, players in a marked lane space may enter the key when the
ball is released.
6. The players are NOT allowed to have the block on a free throw and must
alternate lane spaces starting above the block with a maximum of 2 offensive and
4 defensive players in lane spaces.

Overtime Rules
1. Regular season and playoff games that end in a tie will result in an overtime
period of two minutes. If a regular season game still remains tied after the first
overtime period, the game will result as a tie.
2. Overtime periods will be two minutes in duration, with a stopped clock on all
whistles.
3. All overtimes will begin with a jump ball.
4. Teams will be given 1 timeout for the first 2 overtime periods
5. If a game enters a 3rd overtime period, the first team to score 2 points will be
declared the winner.
Sportsmanship, Forfeits, Fines, and Ejections:
1. Teams that are not present at game time with the minimum number of players
required will forfeit the match. There is a $20 fine for each forfeit. Teams that
forfeit more than 1 game will not be eligible for playoffs.
2. All players are expected to abide by the Intramural Code of Conduct.
3. All players ejected from play must leave the game site immediately. Ejections
will result in a minimum penalty of a 1 game suspension and $20 fine.
4. Teams will be graded on their sportsmanship on a 4.0 scale. Sportsmanship rating
will be used as the first tiebreaker when determining the playoff schedule and
final standings.
5. Teams that do not maintain a 2.5 average will not be included in the playoff
schedule; teams that do not maintain a 2.0 average during the season will be
dropped from the remainder of the schedule.
