existing case study, "What's Your Plan?: A Strategic Planning Simulation" by having it converted to an online learning resource. This conversion would also include a mobile coach to facilitate learning, progress, and performance; all at a cost that would not negatively affect quality. Design Solution Our solution will provide IPMN’s clients with an online training and case study entitled “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced,” (“What’s Your Plan SP”) which will benefit IPMN economically while supplying clients with the industry leading strategic planning training that IPMN is known for. WHY SELF-PACED? When porting the training to an online environment Global Design Solutions (GDS) recognizes the following potential implications to having an effective experience for all learners. GDS had identified three possible methods to counter this concern. They are: Live Learning Self-Paced Learning Blended Approach With the current demand for IPMN’s training, based on scheduled training sessions and the average learners per session, GDS estimates, IPMN will teach approximately 1,140 learners strategic planning this year. We don’t believe this number is an adequate sample to create an online multi-learner environment without the constraints of scheduling. FLEXIBLE LEARNING IPMN’s goal is to make training more accessible. Global Design Solutions recommends a selfpaced training solution to achieve flexible learning schedules for the learners. Self-paced training allows learners to get online, pay for the training, and finish the training in the same day or as their schedule permits. Empowering users with choice of action promotes efficacy and responsibility of their learning process. Instructional Solution Overview We use the ADDIE model (Analysis Design Development Implementation Evaluation) as our framework for building instructional solutions here at GDS. Our learning phase will be reliant on our analysis of your learners and strategic planning content. After building our content’s final outline we will design a two phase “Learn and Apply” environment where the learner can interact and learn strategic planning content before moving into a simulation phase that is based off of “What’s Your Plan?” The simulation phase will culminate into a contingency planning game where users try to keep their business alive by surviving environmental shifts. Users will be motivated to earn shareable digital badges for surviving these shifts. This environment will be built and exported as HTML, using Adobe Captivate, to be uploaded into IMPN’s Cornerstone LMS where users can begin training. The final step of the training includes an assessment to provide evidence learners have met and understood the developed objectives. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 6 Upon passing the assessment, the learner will be presented with a certificate containing each earned digital badge. Technical Solution Overview Both the learning and simulation phase will be built using Adobe Captivate 8. This program will allow for cross platform compatibility and will be easy to upload to IPMN’s Cornerstone LMS. LEARNING PHASE The learning phase will be an interactive environment that allows users to learn at their own pace while still keeping them on a structured learning path. Learners will be given various topics which they can interact with to learn more about that specific topic. Captivate will allow us to ensure the learner goes through each learning objective before applying what they have learned in the simulation phase. We will build our strategic planning learning phase in-house and make various videos and other forms of multimedia, with the help of a strategic planning expert. SIMULATION PHASE The simulation phase will be modeled after the “What’s Your Plan” face-to face case study. This will be built using Captivate’s assessment features. GDS’s development team will also build this in house and match the simulation as close as we can to “What’s Your Plan.” The case study will allow the user to create their own businesses strategic plan from the ground up. The learner’s information will be saved automatically on a continual basis. Our development team will also create characters and personalities to play the roles of other people in the learner’s group. After the learner selects a role our algorithm will automatically determine what other roles need to be in the learners group and activate these characters. MOBILE APP We will collaborate with Microsoft mobile developers to create a mobile application that acts as a progress tracker as well as a coach. The application will be optimized with advanced functionality from previous Microsoft applications such as OneDrive, Xbox Smart Glass and personal assistant Cortana. It will be built in Intel XDK. Budget The solution we detail below comes to a total cost of $137,500. However depending on use of Microsoft’s logo there is an additional option to reduce the cost of the presented solution to $97,500. Project Management At Global Design Solutions we aim to provide the most beneficial deliverables. To ensure that they are as requested we will plan, organize, and communicate our ideas with IPMN to assure your active involvement. We will schedule meetings once a week via Google Hangouts online meeting platform, but are open to any other requested mean of communication. Given the scope of the project we have already considered a common risk that may arise and have mitigation steps in place. To propose the most cost and time efficient project we have provide a detailed timeline and budget (see appendix). Lastly, to assure that the project is of the highest quality extensive testing and inspecting materials before, during, and after the completion will take place. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 7 Project Overview “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced” The simulation will be adapted from the stand-up version to self-paced learning. Learners can interact with multiple strategic options and make decisions to render their business successful and ultimately win badges. “What’s Your Plan SP (Self-Paced)” will mirror the simulation taught in person however will not involve teams. Users will select a role at the beginning of the case study and will interact with computer-based personalities playing the other roles. The user will progress through the case study making all the same decisions as in the original “What’s Your Plan” and will have to create a contingency plan to survive environmental shifts. If the learner survives they will then create a new contingency plan and attempt another environmental shift. Learning Phase The learning phase of each content section will be an educational/interactive learning presentation that will teach the learner about topics within the content section of strategic planning. There will be three learning phases: analysis, strategy, and contingency. The learning phases will embody the best strategic planning practices within each content section and parallel the content taught in the original “What’s Your Plan.” Global Design Solutions will work closely with IPMN and experts in the field of strategic planning to ensure IPMN’s model of strategic planning is taught appropriately. Learning phases will be highly interactive and allow learners to gain knowledge in strategic planning in the order they want at their own pace. Simulation Phase The “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced” case study will culminate into a contingency game where users will try to keep their business alive by developing a contingency plan to mitigate natural and man-made disasters or “environmental shifts.” Each environmental shift endured will move the learner and “business” up a level. If the user misses an environmental shift in the contingency plan the business will “fold” and will be free to try the game again. Assessment When the learner chooses to move forward after the contingency game they will be given the chance to earn an IPMN certificate. To earn this certificate the learner will be prompted with an assessment that will use many different forms of questions to test the learner’s knowledge of strategic planning. When the learner passes the assessment they will be provided with a certificate of completion. Badges Badges will be awarded at levels 5, 10, and 15 of the contingency game at the end of the simulation phase and can be posted to LinkedIn or Facebook. These badges supply extra motivation for the learner, while functioning as a marketing tool for IPMN. The badges will create value for those seeking employment in Strategic Planning since companies will be able to view successful completion of IPMN’s training on prospective employees profiles. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 8 Level 5 Badge Level 10 Badge Level 15 Badge Certificate An assessment will be delivered to the learner to assess their knowledge about strategic planning. The assessment will be a variety of multiple choice and true/false questions that evaluate the users’ comprehension of strategic planning. If the user fails the assessment they will have a chance to retake the assessment until they pass. If the learner struggles they can retake the learning and/or the simulation phase. When the user passes the assessment they will be presented with a certificate which can be printed and/or posted to LinkedIn and Facebook. The certificate will also create value for those seeking jobs, prospective employees will be able to proudly display that they completed IPMN’s training and case study. LinkedIn Private Group After training, learners will be given access to IPMN’s private group. This group will be moderated and managed by Global Design Solutions at no cost to IPMN. The group will allow users who have completed the training to collaborate, share information and best practices. Mobile App With help from Microsoft, GDS will build the mobile app to have two modes live and offline. The live mode will simulate a Strategic Planning Coach to help the learner through the training with questions he or she may have about the training and strategic planning. The live mode will also give the learner access to the leaderboard, and the progress tracker. The offline mode will include the learning materials taught in the “What’s Your Plan?” Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 9 Project Specifications Self-Paced Training With the current demand for IPMN’s training, based on scheduled training sessions and the average learners per session, GDS estimates, IPMN will teach approximately 1,140 learners* strategic planning this year. We don’t believe this number is an adequate sample to create an online multi-learner environment without the constraints of scheduling. To that effect, we know self-paced training is an ideal appropriation of training for IPMN and their clients. Self-paced training relies heavily on design; our dependable and proven Instructional Designers will rigorously organize content to facilitate comprehension. Through our signature “Learn and Apply process, learners self-regulate through application with immediacy and efficiency. Our proposed model establishes opportunities for self-reflection and feedback, valued components of the learning process. * IMPN’S 2015 PROJECTED NUMBERS IPMN, in 2015, will have 57 training sessions; on average they contain 20 learners per session. This means IPMN will be training roughly 1,140 learners yearly. In our opinion, 1,140 learners is not an efficient sample to foster a consistent online multiuser environment. Developing a live learning module would involve having to schedule learners for online learning sessions which will limit efficiency and accessibility. (20 learners x 57 sessions/year) = 1,140 leaners per year All Experience Levels Global Design Solutions will build a learning solution that will account for the least experienced of IPMN’s learners to the most experienced. Learning solutions will be constructed that allow experienced learners to build confidence and sharpen skills. The learning will also support less experienced learners in breaking down each content section of strategic planning. Our “Learn and Apply” method allows for mastery of content before moving to the simulation phase to test knowledge and transfer of previously learned skills. Learn and Apply We will use our “Learn and Apply” design strategy to develop an immersive learning environment where the learner is able to make sense of material regarding each section of strategic planning before role-playing in the “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced” training simulation phase. The “Learn and Apply” method has implemented successfully for many of our clients. This simulation will mirror the “What’s Your Plan?” which has seen proven success within IPMN, but with slight alterations to account for the self-paced nature of the training. Learn Apply Motivation GDS is known for establishing motivated learners. We understand the importance of motivation and integrate it into all our modules; IPMN’s training/case study will be no different. GDS will create a badge reward system, allowing learners to earn badges and share them via LinkedIn or Facebook. Social badging effectiveness is supported with current empirical data and Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 10 complements certification achievement training frameworks. Badging and certification components intrinsically motivate users, amplifying effort and effectiveness. Learning Phase The introduction of a learning phase to “What’s Your Plan SP” will be necessary in developing the self-paced case study. The learning phase will utilize chunking to piece information from IPMN’s current strategic planning model into groups and make the information easier on the learner. GDS’s “What’s Your Plan SP” will teach each one of the groups to the learner before moving into the simulation phase. WHAT’S YOUR PLAN SELF-PACED LEARNING STRUCTURE GDS will use sound instructional strategies and cutting edge technologies to develop a modern learning environment that will be engaging and interactive for the learner. The learner will enter this environment before each section of content and its purpose it to educate the learner about that content before moving into the application phase. Simulation Phase The simulation phase will be the same look and feel of the “What’s Your Plan” simulation conducted in person. It will represent the application of knowledge in our “Learn and Apply” design method. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 11 WHAT’S YOUR PLAN SP SIMULATION STRUCTURE The learner will be required to make a variety of decisions about their business including: Selection of Industry Mission Statement Development Environment Analysis SWOT Analysis Industry Selection Strategy Formation CONTINGENCY GAME 5 Shifts Once the Learning and Simulation phases are completed, the learner will then enter a contingency game where they will try to keep the business they created, through the earlier stages, above water during a variety of environmental shifts. The earner will earn badges for surviving 5, 10 and 15 environmental shifts. The learner’s high score will be determine by our algorithm that calculates level and decision making time to give a score for each learner’s game. This score will be added to IPMN’s leaderboard that anyone who takes part in the training can see and try to surpass the others. The learner can play the contingency game as many times to obtain the highest score. 10 Shifts 15 Shifts IPMN Leaderboard Name Points Date John Janson Tiffany Tyson Sean Reptear Chris Davis Alfred Morgan 15,784 15,221 14,442 14,332 12,324 3/3/2015 3/3/2015 3/3/2015 3/3/2015 3/3/2015 Assessment When the learner chooses to move forward after the contingency game they will be given the chance to earn an IPMN certificate that demonstrates they successfully completed the “What’s Your Plan SP” training. To earn this certificate the learner will be prompted with an assessment that will use many different forms of questions to test the learner’s knowledge of strategic planning. When the learner passes the assessment they will be provided with a certificate of completion. Social Media All badges and certificates will be shareable via LinkedIn and Facebook. Empirical data suggests that learners become more motivated by digital sharable badges and achievements. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 12 While motivating the learner GDS believes IPMN will reap a great marketing benefit from making these badges and certificates shareable. LinkedIn will allow IPMN’s certificate to become a resume builder. Facebook will allow users to market IPMN’s training to their friends while ultimately keep the learner focused and motivated. Mobile App The mobile app will be developed in collaboration with Microsoft and will be developed with an offline mode, and live mode. OFFLINE MODE The offline mode of the mobile app will supply the learner with many strategic planning resources. All content that was taught during the training and will be organized into articles and checklists for the learner to refer to when in the field. The content of the offline app will be developed in collaboration with our strategic planning expert. LIVE MODE Our live mode of the mobile app will contain Microsoft’s Cortana. Cortana will provide the learner with live instruction during “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced”. The user will be able to ask Cortana any question about strategic planning or IPMN’s training and Cortana will be programed to answer or go online to find the answer. This development of the live mode will rely on the user’s local wireless connection. Live mode will also give the user access to IPMN’s leaderboards and progress tracker. Access to the Offline mode will be available while in the live mode. LinkedIn Private Group With the purchase of IPMN’s training learners will automatically be added to IPMN’s LinkedIn private group. This group will contain current information on strategic planning, strategic planning news, and collaboration tools. This group allows users who have completed the training to connect with each other and spread information effectively to each other about strategic planning. The group will be moderated by Global Design Solutions for 2 years. Strategic planning current news Strategic planning resources Collaboration tools Connect with others who have completed the training Share information about strategic planning Time Learners will have 30 days from the date of purchase to earn IPMN’s certificate. While other parts of the training will stay accessible the assessment will only be available for 30 days. If the learner doesn’t not receive a certificate after 30 days of training they can re-purchase another 30 days from IPMN. On average a user should be able to complete this training in 2 hours however Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 13 the user can spend more time in training as they please. The user can span the training a couple days or weeks at their leisure. The user will also have access to IPMN’s private LinkedIn group. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 14 Instructional Solution Our main goal at Global Design Solutions is to bring our client a solution through a proven model of instructional design. To create effective instructional solutions we leverage proven industry methods relevant to our client. ADDIE Model The proposed instructional solution will follow the ADDIE model, systematically progressing your ideas from concept to a functioning solution. ADDIE is a dependable comprehensive method for including clients throughout each phase, an integral part to representing your new learning system. ANALYSIS Global Design Solutions intends to use analysis to gather additional information about the learners, environment and content. GDS want to fully understand IPMN’s previous learners and their opinions on the current face-to-face training so that we can adequately convert this case study to its correct online form. Analysis is necessary to find common traits and characteristics that we could use to IPMN’s learners advantage in the design of the online case study. DESIGN GDS’s design process is molded around analysis. Design will be shaped for the learner’s and IPMN’s needs. With a variety of design skills and a design team with a variety of backgrounds, GDS will build creative, interactive and engaging learning environments and recreate “What’s Your Plan” into an improved “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced” training. Improvements will be made to motivate the learner with the use of the ARCS model mold motivation into the design. We adhere to Knowles’ 4 principles of adult learning when building learning objectives. The content outline will be constructed in this phase based off of “What’s Your Plan” Attention must be gained by the learner in order to comprehend the material. GDS believes in active participation with hands-on activities to engage the learner’s attention. GDS will design a learning environment that is interactive and engaging to keep the learners attention on strategic planning. Attention ARCS Relevance is an important piece to the training design, if information is not relevant, it is not only GDS’s goal but GDS’s Relevance responsibility to make it relevant. Content will be displayed in a way making learning relevant. An alteration that will be considered is allowing the learner to select the role they play at the beginning of the training. Other alterations will be considered after the analysis phase. Confidence Satisfaction Confidence is earned as learners mature in the content they are learning. GDS intends to build an environment where the learner has plenty of maturity in the content before moving onto an assessment Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 15 phase. GDS builds evaluated parts of the training last to ensure the learner is confident moving forward. Satisfaction can be intrinsic or extrinsic. This means it is our job to supply the learner with praise, feedback and critiques when necessary to promote satisfaction and continual learning. This is done through our feedback system which will be and addition to IPMN’s current training. GDS builds training that allows the learners to shine confidence through each award they get. We will build an environment where IPMN’s learners can earn awards for different accomplishments and a certificate for the completion of the training. Awards will always be sharable in multiple ways. DEVELOP GDS’s development involves precise detail to design and analysis. The development phase is focused on deadlines, we build our storyboards and multimedia in a timely manner but not to the compromise of content, rather to the strength of efficiency. GDS will work with IPMN to develop “What’s Your Plan SP” and mobile companion. IMPLEMENTATION In Implementation GDS will launch our training for IPMN’s learners. We will export our training solution to HTML 5 and import it into IPMN’s cornerstone LMS for learns to access. Everything will facilitate itself so there is no need for training, however we will provide two pilot tests and walk IPMN through our completed solution at this phase EVALUATE Evaluation could be the most important part of our process. Evaluation is employed at the end of each phase however at this point in the project we will work with test learners one-on-one. We evaluate to make sure we are in line with IPMN’s needs while also making sure IPMN’s learners are absorbing the information. At the end of this process we adjust the training as seen fit by our evaluation. Adult Learning Theory KNOWLES’ 4 PRINCIPLES Global Design Solutions adopts four principles when teaching adult learners we will apply each one of these to IPMN. INVOLVED PLANNING AND EVALUATION “What’s Your Plan SP” is built on the learner. The learner will choose his learning path in the learning phase and will be evaluated in the Contingency Game on the “business” they have created throughout the entire training. The training will contain an introduction that will explain why we are teaching our learners what we are and the structure of “What’s Your Plan SP” Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 16 MAKE LEARNING OFF OF EXPERIENCES Global Design Solutions’ “Learn and Apply” strategy builds an environment where the learner first experiences a learning phase and then moves into a simulation phase where the learner can apply his knowledge and experience to the simulation. Learn Apply RELEVANCE Learning is made relevant from the first decision the learner makes which is their role in the simulation. Relevant learning will not be assumed our analysis will bring us many details about our learners to allow us to build relevant learning. PROBLEM-CENTERED The learning will culminate into an instructional contingency game that is structured around the problem of enduring environmental shifts. The learner must develop a plan to endure shifts and disasters to earn badges. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 17 Technical Solution Our technical solution is based on the assumption that IPMN is in need of the most accessible and effective online strategic planning case study modeled after the “What’s Your Plan” simulation. Learning Phase The learning phase will consist of an interactive environment developed in Adobe Captivate 8. It will be set up in a format similar to a PowerPoint presentation with a series of slides that highlight the various aspects of Strategic Planning. The slides will include interactive elements that would not be possible to develop in PowerPoint such as drag and drop and JavaScript programming functionality. The learner will be tasked with progressing through the Captivate project in a manner similar to progressing through a PowerPoint. It will include a variety of images, videos, and audio narration developed in-house. Simulation Phase The simulation phase will also be developed in Adobe Captivate 8. It will be a familiar environment for learners who have just completed the Learning Phase of the training. This phase will simulate the “What’s Your Plan” face-to-face case study, but completely asynchronously. We will build automated team members that react and respond to the case study similarly to actual coworkers using Captivate’s JavaScript functionality. This will give the learners the experience of collaborative strategically planning without requiring synchronous attendance from an actual group. First, the learner will select their role in the group and the simulation will automatically generate the other group members using an advanced artificial intelligence algorithm we developed in collaboration with Microsoft. The learner will then progress through the case study similarly to how they would normally. Mobile App SMART GLASS TECHNOLOGY The application will make use of Microsoft’s Xbox Smart Glass functionality, which will provide users with progress tracking as well as seeing how their colleagues are doing with the training on the leaderboard. Smart Glass connects your mobile devices to your computer through your home network. This allows your phone to know exactly where the learner is in the training and assist accordingly VIRTUAL COACH The mobile app will also allow the user to navigate through the web-based training as well as get extra help and hints through the mobile coach that is optimized using Microsoft’s Cortana software. With Microsoft’s expertise, we will build the coach to give the user the same experience as having one-to-one instruction with a real life instructor. Users will be able to interact with the coach through typing in questions or speaking directly to the app. The coach will act as the teacher and answer any questions about strategic planning the learner has. Advanced artificial intelligence software already in use by Microsoft will be the backbone of the coach’s software architecture. The coach will be developed with hundreds of strategic planning tips, guidelines, and strategies. All users who complete the training will be able to keep the Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 18 mobile coach installed on their devices after the training as well to offer additional strategic planning support at the touch of a button. INTEL XDK Global Design Solutions will develop the mobile application with a program called Intel XDK. This program provides cross platform compatibility for IOS, Android, Windows and web apps. The program is GUI based and allows testing on a wide variety of devices instantly. While being GUI based the program has a phenomenal coding section for development LEARNER BENEFITS Users who register for the training will receive a complimentary 50 MB of free online file storage on OneDrive, courtesy of Microsoft. We also provide an addition of up to 200 MB of OneDrive file storage to learners who perform well in certain areas of the training as an incentive. Learning Environment The learner will enter into an interactive learning environment where the learner is presented with a topic and then set out on his own to interact with data, learn, and play the signature “What’s Your Plan Self-Paced” simulation. Users select topic they would like to learn about while still requiring users to learn all the information. To access the web-based phase of the training, we recommend using a browser with HTML5 support or higher. Recommended browser versions are as follows: Internet Explorer version 9 or higher Mozilla Firefox version 11 or higher Opera version 11.5 or higher Google Chrome version 14 or higher Safari version 5.1 or higher To access the mobile phase of the training, we recommend using a mobile device with 80MB of local storage available, Android version 2.2 or higher, iOS version 4.2.1 or higher, or Windows Phone 7 or higher. One of the many reasons why our company is able to provide remarkable deliverables is our project management. To assure that the Strategic Planning Online Course and Mobile Module is completed by Q4 2015, Global Design Solutions will plan, organize, and communicate adequately and simultaneously with IPMN. Plan With a clear understanding of the RFP, project requirements, and IPMN’s current issues, Global Design Solutions will compose a prudent project plan. The common risk of requesting a change during the development of the IPMN project has already been considered. For that reason we have mitigation steps that we will take to ensure a timely completion, despite sudden requests (see change control process). A detailed timeline has been constructed and roles and responsibilities have been delegated to four Global Design Solutions employees leading this project based on expertise. Organize The team has organized an initial meeting to set rules, make parallel expectations, and explain the work process. This meeting will be held via face-to-face in order to personalize our relationship with IPMN. Subsequent meetings will be held once a week via Google Hangouts online meeting platform to address any issues along with, what has been completed, what is in the process of being completed, and what is being completed next. A structured meeting agenda will be in place to stay on track and minutes will be recorded and saved. The team will have phase sign-offs to ensure materials meet IPMN’s expectations. Therefore, we will be providing IPMN with weekly status reports to ensure satisfactory with the progress being made. Communicate Our only expectation of IPMN is to reciprocate the clear, concise, and prompt communication we will delivery. The lines of communication between Global Design Solutions and IPMN are open. The team will share content via email, Google Docs, phone and weekly meetings. Updates on progress will be sent to IPMN via email, fax, and telephone or any requested mean of communication. Change Control Process Global Design Solutions works extremely hard to guarantee client satisfaction. We understand and acknowledge that changes may arise throughout the duration of the project, and therefore have a strict change control process in place. It is crucial that we properly manage change to ensure that the project remains on track and successful. When clients’ requests a change in the project we require them to complete our change request documentation. This document will clearly outline the change being requested so that we can provide the best-proposed solution. The following questions and statements are to be thoroughly answered: Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 21 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Provide an outline of your request. What is the reason for the request? What are your expectations of the What is your expected due date? What value will the request have? 1.Request Change 2. GDS Review request? 3. GDS Respond When the document is completed it should be submitted to the 4. Decision project manager. The team will take three days to review the request and Approval and define options, before responding. The team will present the proposed solution(s) with a timeline, impacts, and feedback. The response will include a valid expiration date in which the proposal will be honored, along with the date in which the client’s response is expected. Lastly, the team will establish a meeting with the client to make a decision and get a sign-off. Roles and Responsibilities Although roles and responsibilities have been delegated, a collaborative work style will be demonstrated. Autonomous work will never be delivered to IPMN without being thoroughly reviewed and revised by the entire team to assure accuracy. Our credibility is high and we aim to keep it that way. Our goal is to provide peerless projects of high quality that satisfy our client’s needs and expectations. We do so by conducting extensive testing and inspecting materials before, during, and after the completion of a project. Objectives Before the project takes place we determine objectives and identify inconsistencies. Doing so assists us with answering the following question: how will we modify the existing design to ensure that that the same values and skills are developed? We review the design of the old course for things such as involvement, assessments, and technology. Reviewing involvement, assessments, and technology ensures that the learner’s perspective is taken into consideration in the design process. The design process can be time consuming. To ensure reliability of the client and or approval panel, clients are notified and informed that we expect them to review and signoff on materials within 4 days of the retrieval date. Detail The project will be monitored and measured against terms and conditions, requirements, and objectives weekly. Internal testing is also conducted weekly and consists of technical testing on materials to ensure that materials are concrete and process and handling of materials is sufficient. One-on-one evaluations will also take place. Technical inspections are measured using different software programs to ensure that there are no errors or bugs detected. External testing against focus groups will be conducted if need be, but is contingent upon time. Review The completed project will be sent to the client for review and examination. We request that the client test the project in the environments in which it will be accessed to assure effectiveness. The client has seven days to review the project, document errors, and send them to Global Design Solutions. If the client is satisfied with the project a final sign-off is requested and considerations for annual managing are made. If the client is unsatisfied with the project we review the detected errors and take corrective action toward a redesign. The app illustrates the steps of effective Strategic Planning, and gives the employee access to a database of real-world examples and how Strategic Planning was implemented. FEMA administrator Craig Fugate praised our work “FEMAFIND has helped countless emergency personnel come to strategic solutions in situations where any other information tool would have come up short.” 2012-2014 We developed an eLearning training program for current and new employees on the operation and maintenance of CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machines. The training featured both web and mobile sections and featured highly interactive assessment items to fully test the user’s knowledge of the machine. For the mobile section we developed an iOS and Android app that uses the device’s gyroscope to turn the device into a virtual breathing mask to be used on a physical test dummy. The mobile app was initially met with disapproval due to the nonsensical nature of holding an iPhone up to a CPR dummy, but after a few trial runs it was determined by the client to be a “very effective learning tool”. A follow-up evaluation showed a 98% decrease in the misuse or handling of the machines. The Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania is the first university-owned teaching hospital in the United States. It currently employs 1,595 physicians and is ranked first in the U.S. News Best Hospitals in Philadelphia category. CPAP machines are used as treatment for sleep apnea, which is one of the most common and dangerous sleep disorders in the United States. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 25 2012-2013 Customer satisfaction increased by 85% We developed an eLearning for current and new customer service representatives on strategic planning regarding wedding planning. We developed a 2-hour interactive web based training in Articulate Storyline. The assessment phase of the training randomly generates a customer with a variety of needs that must be addressed timely and strategically in order to pass the training. Since Storyline was such new software at the time we were one of the first companies to use the random quiz question algorithm as a random number generator in order to randomly assign needs to the customer in the assessment phase of the training. After our eLearning was incorporated into the LocalWeddingPlanning.com’s employee training regimen, customer satisfaction was surveyed at being up 85% from prior years. LocalWeddingPlanning.com is the leading local wedding and event planning referral site for Williamsport PA and surrounding areas. 2011-2013 We developed an eLearning program for current and new employees on operating the internally developed simulation software programs. These software programs are used in the prediction and optimization of the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) performance of vehicles. The training was primarily web based with a mobile app that acted as a progress tracker. The training was done in Adobe Captivate and fully utilized its software simulation feature to give the trainees hands on experience with the software without needing access to the actual software. The Captivate simulation allowed the client to offer the training program to employees on older hardware that was not powerful enough to run the software programs themselves. Our training was praised by the client for, “Finally getting some use out of the old machines that cannot run up-to-date NVH optimization simulation software.” Autoneum is the global market and technology leader in acoustic and thermal management solutions for vehicles. Autoneum is represented at over 45 locations in around 20 countries with a workforce of around 9,600 employees worldwide. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 26 2011-2012 70% increase in booster pack sales We worked with the games’ developers on an in-game economy and a web of conflicting actions the user can choose to make in order to give them the opportunity to strategically plan for building their new town. The user has a range of activities to complete within the town to acquire money, wood, metal, food, and other resources. We worked with developers to ensure each of these options offered equal but different benefits to the user, so they would have to tackle each problem strategically to progress through the game. While the game is free to download and play, the user has the option to spend real-world money to download booster packs to add resources to their account. Gameloft claimed a 70% increase in booster pack sales after the updates to the game economy. Gameloft is a video game developer and publisher with subsidiaries in 28 countries and over 5,000 employees. Gameloft saw our work on Age of Empires Online and hired us as development consultants specifically in the field of strategic planning to work on their upcoming mobile game, The Oregon Trail: American Settler. The game takes place directly after the events of the original, The Oregon Trail game, where the user has finally arrived in Oregon and is tasked with building a new town on the frontier. 2010-2011 Age of Empires Online contains one of the most informative and strategically helpful tutorials in the history of gaming.” - Game Informer In 2010 we were contracted with designing the in-game tutorial level for the upcoming Age of Empires Online game. The tutorial guides the user to collaborate with other users’ civilizations using best practice sharing, innovation and learning from each other. We teach the user to think strategically, and to weigh out the pros and cons, as well as, contemplate the long-term effects of their decisions. The user also learns ways to mitigate natural and man-made disasters within the game. Copyright © 2015, All Rights Reserved 27 We completed a needs analysis, created the instructional content, and designed the storyboard for the tutorial level which was sent out to the game’s developer, Gas Powered Games, who built it into the game. When the tutorial begins the user has control of 3 villagers which they can use to gather wood, mine for metal, or hunt for food. Each of these duties has separate uses in progressing the civilization and thus the game. The user must make a strategic decision as to which resource will be most useful to them this early in the game based on a range of factors randomly designated to them. Microsoft game studios is the video game production wing for Microsoft. Age of Empires Online is a multiplayer free-to-play real-time strategy game where the user controls a civilization, progressing them through different technological ages and various other strategic efforts. The role of the in-game tutorial is to teach the user not only about basic control functions of the game but also of basic strategic planning.
