Previewing the text by Minding Your P’s & Q’s Preview Formative Assessment for Secondary Science Teachers by asking yourself (and answering) the following four questions as you skim through the text. Preview: What is inside? Prior Knowledge: What do I already know about this topic? Prediction: What do I think the author is trying to communicate? Purpose: What do I want to get out of reading this text? PLEASE READ PAGES 4-5 when you are finished The strategy you just used to preview the text is called “Mind Your P’s and Q’s”. By using “P’s and Q’s” at the start of a lesson or unit, you can enhance curiosity, spark interest, and improve students’ comprehension of the content material.
