Autumn Term 2015
Inter-Schools Sports
Football
During October St Bernadette’s Year 5/6 team and Year 4 team played
matches against Moorside. The Year 5/6 match was an entertaining and
exciting match with St Bernadette’s coming out as 4 v 1 winners. The Year 4
team did exceptionally well as they were playing a team of Year 5 pupils. They
won convincingly 5 v 1. Well done to all the children involved.
Unfortunately due to very wet weather in November the Year 5/6 football competition at Moorside
had to postponed and a new date will be arranged in the next term.
Lancaster & District School’s Football Trials
Congratulations to Archie Bamforth and Emilio Brown both of Sycamore Class who were selected
from St Bernadette’s School to go for football trials with 46 other children from various schools
across the District to try out for the District team.
Athletics
In November, at Our Lady’s Catholic College, 8 children from Year 6 entered a Sportshall Athletics
competition. The children competed in a range of track and field events that included team relays,
obstacle courses, javelin throws, long jump etc. There were seven schools participating which is the
largest number of entrants ever. After a fantastic afternoon the scores were close and St
Bernadette’s received the bronze medal and were the highest placed Catholic School. The children
represented our school with an excellent attitude and level of play. Thank you for the support
from the parents that attended the event.

School Sports Clubs

In September and October Mr Karim held a football club for the boys in Years 4, 5 and 6. It was
extremely well attended. The boys learned new skills and played in match situations.
Girls Football Club
An after school football club was also run for the girls by Mr Karim and assisted by Mrs Bramhall. It
was well attended with many of the girls taking the opportunity to play. The girls will have the
opportunity in the future to take part in further competitions. Their enthusiasm was excellent.
Tag Rugby Club
Children in Years 3/4 attended a Tag Rugby Club for three weeks in November. This was led by Mr
Brett-Smith (father of Oliver, Year 4), a qualified Rugby Coach from Vale of Lune, assisted by Mr
Charnock-Payne (father of Malachi, Year 4). The club was very well attended by both boys and girls.
We would like to say thank you as this club was well organised with lots of different activities to
improve the children’s Tag Rugby skills. Both parents have said they would like to come back and
run further clubs of this nature in the future.
