Footy wrap-up
ROUND 11 V ROC
In Round 11 Narre travelled to ROC – although one punter observed it might more appropriately have been
called MUD on this particular occasion. But we came to play as we have every round this season - and we
brought home the points from all four games.
In the Ones we got the jump with a six goal opening quarter, but it was tight and desperate from then on. In
the last quarter ROC had the wind and came at us with a late run, but tough defence saw us hold on by 11
points. Our Twos won by 22 points in an even team effort. Our 18s dominated all day for an 8 goal win; and
our Colts beat an undermanned opposition by ten goals.
Highlights of Round11 football included:





In the Ones, Dylan Piening’s sure hands and footskills belied the slippery conditions and he kicked
5 goals
Justin Marriot was in our best again, along with the ‘old firm’ of Hammo, Skiddsy, Ando and
Mickey Collins
In the Twos, Ryan Faoro and Timmy Elmes kicked 3 each, and Griffo was our best
In the Undies, Ayden Mills with 3 goals, Chris Tosin and Nick Cowan were our best
Our Colts were awesome given the messy conditions and Jake Gray’s seven-goal performance at
full forward was a standout. Nathan Hiam and Trent Duffy were also in great form.
ROUND 12 V Tooradin
In Round 12, last Saturday it was a cold windy day at Fox Road. but the Narre boys were sizzling – with
emphatic wins in all three games against Tooradin. And our Colts made a statement against top side St
Johns - our five-goal to nil last quarter delivering Narre a two-goal win.
In the Ones Narre had the aid of a strong wind in the final quarter and although our 17 scoring shots
produced only 7.10 – we powered to a 10 goal win, after a tight first half. Our Twos had a six goal win.
Narre’s 18s went on a goal-spree - our 29-goal win featured 11 individual goalkickers against a struggling
side. And our Colts rose to the occasion and didn’t have a passenger in a ripper team effort.
Highlights of Round 12 football included:
 In the Ones, Michael Collins kicked 4 in the last quarter; Jackson Parker was outstanding, and
Vanders and Ando were great in the back half all day. Our Stingrays boys Matt Lee and Ben
Wragg also showed plenty of class.
 Michael Tarley and Luke Ross were our best in the Twos win. It was also great to see 2006 senior
premiership defender Col McNamara back from Queensland, and back in the black and white.
 For our Undies, Steve Sigeti (5 goals), Josh Tonna (4 goals) and Ayden Mills were our best.
 Narre’s Colts were sensational. The ‘Big Elk’ Harris Elkasovic was unbeatable in the ruck and
Nathan Hiam was a matchwinner in defence - but this was a victory delivered by all 22 in the Narre
jumper.
100 game milestones for Premiership stars
Three players who played key roles Narre’s string of premierships from 2006-2008 have all celebrated their
100th senior games for Narre in the last week or two. Well done to Michael Collins, Jarrod Anderson and
Michael McGill. All great champions in one of our club’s most successful eras.
Narre four in Tangles’ Top 50
Popular local journo Brad ‘Tangles’ Kingsbury has offered a Mike Sheahan-style Top 50 player list from the
Casey Cardinia League in this week’s Pakky Gazette. (He does so rather apologetically to those who
missed out as he obviously doesn’t see every game every week like Mike!) However, his inclusions and
omissions are interesting.
Four Narre boys get a guernsey (for what it’s worth!) – Michael Collins at No. 1 (he got that right); Borno at
14; Ando at 18; and Boyley at 27.
Casey Cardinia Finals Venues announced
The venues for the 2009 Casey Cardinia Football and Netball finals have been announced. Again the

being that Pakenham will host the grand finals and Berwick will host the Preliminary finals. The fixture is:



Saturday 29 August – Elimination or Qualifying Finals (at Pakenham)
Sunday 30 August – Elimination or Qualifying Finals (at Berwick)

Sunday 6 September – First or Second Semi Finals (at Berwick)

Gillies debut for Geelong
Congratulations to former Narre player and 2008 AFL draftee Tom Gillies who made his AFL debut for
Geelong last Saturday night against Brisbane at the Gabba. Despite the Cats’ loss Tom played a great
game (12 disposals all effective, and four marks) picking up the Lions third key forward James
Polkinghorne. A great start to an AFL career we’ll all follow with interest.
Building relations with our local Junior Clubs
The deep stocks of young football talent that have kept Narre Warren Football Club strong and competitive
this year is not accidental. It is a direct result of our club’s proactive efforts in recent years to build its profile
and promote NWFC to local junior clubs as a desirable place for young players to embark on their senior
football careers. In recent weeks, Narre’s senior playing group went out in small teams to assist with training
at Fountain Gate, Narre Warren, Narre North Foxes and Narre South Lions. The feedback from the clubs
has been very positive.
Our Under 18 and Colts coaches – Mark Douglas and Andy Prosser also followed up last week by taking
training for the Fountain Gate Under 16 team, (where our recent Colts recruit Stewie Scanlon still plays).
Mark and Andy helped the young players understand the pathway to senior football through the Colts and
Under 18 system, and gave them a taste of the intensity of training they should expect when stepping up
next year. The young Fountain Gate players and their parents have been invited as guests of our club to
attend this week’s home game at Fox Road against Hampton Park. Some of these boys may be the Narre
stars of the future in a few years time!

Bags and cars being checked for grog
Police are cracking down on poor behaviour at local sporting events. All cars and bags will be checked as
you enter Kalora Park Fox Road. This may cause delays getting into the ground, so we suggest arriving a
little earlier than usual. Plain clothes police are also patrolling local grounds. Our Club has already been
fined twice for not adhering strictly to the conditions of our outside booth liquor licence.
When purchasing alcohol at our home games please note: We are only allowed to sell a maximum of
four cans at a time to any customer, and only two of these can be pre-mixed spirits and all cans
must be opened when we sell them. Please make sure you are aware of the rules as we will be sticking
to these requirements. Thanks to all in anticipation of your cooperation.
