Vocabulary Vine… Grab a notecard when you enter. Think about what the word on the card means (feel free to look it up if you need to). We are going to connect all of the vocabulary words in a vocabulary vine. Good Move! When movement is connected to learning, it is a Good Move! Workshop Objectives: After experiencing Purposeful Planned Movement (PPM) in today’s workshop you will: Identify 3 different types of Good Moves to purposefully plan movement in your classroom. Create Good Moves to teach content in your classroom Write out at least 5 activity breaks, 3 gestures, and 1 role play that will be Good Moves for your classroom 1. Grab a marker 2. Read the quote 3. Write a response – statement or question 4. Move to the next one 5. Read what others said Check out the statements about movement that are posted around the room. 6. Write a response – answer, statement, or question 7. Continue… Go stand next to the statement that spoke the most to you. Be prepared to share your thoughts. Return to your seat and write your favorite statement about movement at the top of your paper. Record and Reflect… You just participated in 3 PPM activities. Purposeful Planned Movement Purposefully planning movement to strengthen learning emotionally, behaviorally, and cognitively is a Good Move. Activity Breaks to wake up the brain! The movement should clearly connect to the meaning of the word, concept, or phrase, and the students should be able to explain the connection. Can be used for: Vocabulary Phrase to remember Contractions Syllable Types Steps for… Possessives 2. Appropriate a movement for each syllable if it is a vocabulary word. 3. Use the gesture every time you say the word, concept, or phrase. Come up and grab another note card. Look at the vocabulary words written on the board to identify your word part. Find the rest of the syllables in your word. As a group, figure out a gesture for the word. Remember: The gesture must connect to the word to make it a Good Move, and you need a slight movement for each syllable in the word. Be prepared to share. Hy – poth – e - sis Share!
