One Computer, On Literacy Sell your old computers, Help a children’s e-literacy About: This is a non-profit movement where we would buy old but useable computers with low price and donate to a school from the rural area and teach them access to the internet. This would be a three-step plan which will be carried out and help children to know the benefits of internet. Classification: This would be a non-profit business plan with a mix of corporate social responsibility. This business plan will be involving three elements, which are e-Access (To help the children in the rural area to be connected to the internet), e-enterprise (buying old but useable computers with low price) and e-literacy (teaching the students to learn what they can do on the internet.) Goals: 1) To reduce the potential wastage of throwing old but useable computers 2) To educate rural area children to access to the internet and know the benefits of internet. What is needed: 1) 2) 3) 4) A strong budget to buy over old computers A set of guidelines and requirements of the old computers Identify the area that need the assistance of computers and internet Identify internet service providers in the targeted area. How it works: 1st step: 1) We would first setting up an online and physical site to buy the old computers. Those who are interested could register themselves to the site and bring their old computers to the appointed site. 2) At the same time, the organization will have to check the availability of the old computers and eliminate the unwanted ones 3) Approach internet service providers that could be accessible to the targeted rural area 4) Repair and enhance the computers before sending out. 2nd Step: 1) Donate the computers to the targeted school in the rural area. 2) Besides donating the computers, building or renovation for a new computer will be assisted if needed 3) Install the computers with the basic software and internet accessibility software. 3rd Step: 1) Educate the students with a proper study guidelines 2) Continue to help maintaining the infrastructure Supporting images/design/multimedia: Justification: With the emergence of internet, it is important to get yourself to be engaged to the technology today in order keep up the fast pace world that is slowly evolving into a global village. Hence, it is very important to the citizen of a country must be well digital literate in order to compete in this global market. However, the digital divide is still in Malaysia. With the project of giving computer and internet access to the children in rural area, students would able to gain more information and knowledge with just a click. By having internet, they would able to learn something out of the textbook and explore the world. In short, it would bring a lot of benefits if this project could be launched. Sustainability: The sustainability is relatively hard to be measure. This is due to constraint budget and maintenance of the old computers. However, if the whole project is financially supported, it would be easier to carry out.
