Please support our May Sponsors: www.etekhnos.com www.iisbenefits.net “TO CE OR NOT TO CE, That is the Question?” Most Agents may already know this, but recently, I have been teaching classes where agents are unaware of the new TDI reporting of Continuing Education hours for licensed agents in the State of Texas. Beginning on February 17, 2009, registered CE providers are now submitting electronic rosters for candidates who have completed Texas approved CE courses through the Sircon Compliance Express system. This system allows TDI the capability of tracking all CE hours. In the past, eve ry agent was on the honor system and only had to show their required completion upon request of TDI, the new Sircon system reports your hours directly to TDI now. Just as a reminder here are the requirements for all Group I licensed Agents in the State of Texas. You are required to have 30 hours every two years with 15 hours of classroom time; included in that 30 hours is a 2 hour Ethics Course. Licensees who on or after January 1, 2003, have been continuously licensed by the department for at least 20 years may apply for an exemption from the CE requirements. Licensees shall apply for this exemption by submitting a written request to the department indicating that they have met the longevity requirement. Licensees must satisfy the continuing education requirements through the end of the 20th year of licensure. There are also new certifications that are required whether you are exempt from CE Education requirements. A one-time LTC Certification is now required as of January 1, 2009. The Medicare Related Products Certification of 8 hours is maintained for four years, these hours can count towards your 30 hour requirement as well. Annuity Certification is also required as of April 1, 2010. This four hour certification is also maintained for four years. As a reminder, if you are an active member in TAHU, you receive 4 hours of Continuing Education Credit!! He got his "big break" when a good friend in the insurance industry introduced him to his boss many years ago. He managed a life insurance agency and gave Obed an opportunity to learn the business. He spent most of his career in the Senior market selling Medicare Advantage plans. He currently works for BenefitMall's Senior Products Division as a Broker Sales Executive, and he really enjoys helping people find solutions to their health care needs. Thanks to fellow Medicare agent and close friend, Danielle Kunkle, Obed decided to become a FWAHU member. He learned what FWAHU stands for, and wanted to become a supporter. From his membership, he hopes to be connected and informed. He feels, "FWAHU does a great job in keeping agents informed" and loves the idea of networking with professionals in the same industry.
