Shelby County Schools (“SCS”) _____ Contest (the “Contest”)
Rules and Regulations



There is absolutely no purchase necessary and no payment required to participate in this
Contest.
These rules and this Contest are void where prohibited.
Entrants shall become eligible to win various prizes, including _______, as well as travel
to Memphis, Tennessee for the Shelby County Schools Preview Day event, as well as a
VIP NBA basketball experience.
Eligibility:
 Entrants must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
 Entrants must have graduated or be graduating in 2017 from a certified teaching program.
 Entrants must be residents of the United States, any of its Territories, or Canada.
 Entrants must submit written or video-recorded statements (“Submissions”) through the
contest website, at http://www._______________________ (the “Contest Web Site”),
between February 20, 2017 and March 16, 2017 (the “Entry Period”).
 Entrants may only participate once. Multiple submissions may result in disqualification.
Form of Submissions:
 Submissions may be comprised of original written or video-recorded statements.
 Each Submission should explain why the Entrant has chosen to become an educator.
 Essays shall be no longer than __ pages in length. Video Submissions should not exceed
two minutes in length. In the event any Submissions exceed these limitations, they may
result in disqualification in the discretion of SCS.
 By offering Submissions and participating in the Contest, each Entrant represents and
warrants that he or she is the sole author of the Submission and the owner of all copyright
interests in the Submissions. Entrants agree to indemnify SCS, its agents and affiliates, in
the event of any third-party claims of copyright or trademark infringement appearing in
any of the Submissions.
 By participating in the Contest, each Entrant releases and holds SCS, its parent and affiliate
companies and each of their directors, officers, employees, representatives, and agents
harmless from and against any claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind arising
out of or in connection with the Contest or with the acceptance, possession, use of or defect
in any prize (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages related
to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or
privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light). SCS is not responsible for any incorrect
or inaccurate information, whether caused by technical or human error or otherwise which
may occur in the processing of entries or voting in this Contest or in the running of this
Contest. Sponsor will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other errors in these
Rules or in other materials relating to the Contest.
Selection of Winners and Prizes:
 A committee of SCS educators will choose the winners in their sole discretion based on
various factors including, but not limited to, the following. For all Submissions, the



committee will review the Entrant’s adherence to the guidelines, the word and time limits,
the use of copyrighted materials (if any), the propriety of the submission and its subject
matter and the completeness of the application. The following percentages will be
attributed to each written submission:
o Forty percent (40%) to originality and creativity;
o Twenty-five percent (25%) to organization and grammar; and
o Thirty-five percent (35%) to voice and word choice.
Similarly, the following percentages will be attributed to each video submission:
o Thirty-five percent (35%) to content and quality, including the degree to which
the video clearly covers the topic;
o Thirty-five percent (35%) to creativity and memorability; and
o Thirty percent (30%) to production values and quality of overall production
(including sound and video elements).
The selection committee will select a grand-prize winner, up to two second-place winners,
and a single third-place winner (collectively, the “Winners”), all of whom shall be
announced on March 24, 2017. The announcement and identification of winners shall be
made on various media including, but not limited to, the SCS web site, the Choose SCS
web site, the Teach Memphis web site, social media and various other marketing platforms
used by SCS.
All Winners may attend Shelby County Schools’ Preview Day (March 31, 2017 - April 1,
2017) and shall receive:
o Airfare (roundtrip, one ticket, coach class) between the Winner’s home airport and
Memphis International Airport;1
o Hotel stay (one-room) in Memphis, Tennessee for one night; and
o A VIP experience with the Memphis Grizzlies (which includes __________).
In addition to the foregoing:
o The grand-prize winner shall receive ___________ (est. value of $5,000);
o Second-place winners shall receive _____________ (est. value of $2,500); and
o Third-place winner shall receive _______________ (est. value of $500).
Announcement/Marketing/License/Disqualification:
 Entrants understand that SCS will announce all Winners on various web sites, social media
and other media to be determined in the sole discretion of SCS, and hereby consent to the
use of their name and likeness in connection with this announcement.
 Entrants will be recognized during halftime at the March 31, 2017 Memphis Grizzlies NBA
game and hereby consent to the use of their name and likeness in connection with this
recognition.
 By participating in the Contest, Entrant grants to SCS, its parent and affiliated companies
an exclusive, assignable, royalty-free and irrevocable right and license to edit or otherwise
use all materials submitted by Entrant in connection with the Contest, in whole or in part,
for any purpose and in any manner or media (including, without limitation, the Internet)
now known or hereafter devised, throughout the world in perpetuity, and to license others
to do so, without notice and without compensation, royalty, accounting, liability or

obligation of any kind to any Entrant. Each Entrant further agrees that it will use its best
efforts to have its employees, consultants, volunteers, officers and directors sign any
additional licenses or releases that SCS may require.
If any potential winner is found to be ineligible, or if he or she has not complied with these
Rules or declines a prize for any reason prior to award, such potential winner will be
disqualified and an alternate winner may be selected.
From time to time, SCS may send notifications to Entrants about various events,
promotions, contests, etc. Entrant acknowledge that by participating in this Contest, he/she
expressly agrees to receive such notifications and hereby waives objection to the receipt of
these notifications.
