Accessibility Policy

CNM Libraries Accessibility Policy
CNM Libraries is committed to providing equal access for persons with qualified disabilities within the
scope of its mission as an academic library. In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA),
and in cooperation with CNM’s Disability Resource Center (DRC), the Libraries offer appropriate,
confidential accommodations to enable patrons with disabilities to access library resources.
The following are made available to persons with disabilities upon request:
Circulation and Reference services

Assistance confirming the availability of library resources

Individualized assistance with all aspects of library research

Appropriate modification of lending rules on an individual, case-by-case basis, upon request

Assistance renewing items

Assistance retrieving items from shelf areas

Assistance copying, scanning or printing reasonable portions of material in an accessible format
for the individual patron’s personal scholarly use, within the limits of the exclusions to copyright
(“fair use”) as provided by the Chaffee Amendment. See CNM Copyright and Intellectual
Property Policy.

Assistance locating and accessing alternative formats available from other libraries through
Interlibrary Loan (ILL)*. CNM Guests are referred to local public libraries for ILL service.

Designated proxy borrower(s), who have a patron’s written permission may check out library
materials in the patron’s name with a valid ID. The patron will be responsible for all library
materials borrowed in their name. A completed Proxy Borrower Application Form is required.
Electronic Media and Assistive Software - Most Electronic databases and E-books provide some built-in
accessibility features. DRC and the Libraries partner to provide assistive software at Campus Libraries
computer labs. Offerings vary by campus. Inquire with DRC or ask the staff at the Campus Library.
Assistive software training is provided by DRC staff.
Classroom Accommodations - Instructors requesting Library Instruction should include accommodations
required by any ADA qualified student, at least one week in advance.
