Steven Alper is a managing director and head of Market Development for Barclays Wealth Americas.
Prior to this role, he was co-branch manager of the New York office and is also a member of the Americas
Management Committee.
Mr. Alper joined Barclays Wealth in September 2008 as part of Barclays acquisition of Lehman Brothers
Private Investment Management (PIM) business in the Americas. He joined PIM in 2002 as a managing
director and head of the Investment Solutions Group. Additionally, Mr. Alper had overseen recruiting
initiatives to selectively attract leading professionals from across the industry to the firm. Prior to that, he
held a number of senior positions within Lehman Brothers in the Equity division. Prior to Lehman
Brothers, Alper worked as a financial consultant at Merrill Lynch and McLaughlin Piven & Vogel.
Mr. Alper holds a BA in Political Science and Communications from SUNY Brockport. He completed his
studies as part of an exchange program at Brunel University in London where he studied East/West
relations. He also holds an MBA in Financial Management from Pace University. As a member of the
Investment Management Consultants Association, Mr. Alper attended Wharton University’s Executive
Education program and became a Certified Investment Management Analyst. Mr. Alper is actively
involved with several charities including the Student Sponsorship Partners, an inner-city mentoring
program, The Harlem Children’s Zone, and The Foundation Fighting Fighting Blindness, where he serves
on the Board as a National Trustee.
