Overtime Issues
Overtime Issues
What would you do?
Non-exempt employee works 35 hours
during the week. In addition to the time
actually worked the employee used 8 hours
of annual leave.
Overtime Issues
Does this employee receive overtime pay?
If so, how much?
Is this straight time or 1 and ½ times the
salary?
How about Flex Time?
Does annual and sick leave count as time
worked?
Which Is Correct?
35 hours regular pay + 8 hours of annual
leave pay
Or
35 hours regular pay + 5 hours of annual
leave pay
Or
40 hours of regular pay + 3 hours of
overtime pay
Overtime Issues
Why are we talking about this?
– Internal Audit looking at overtime across the
College
• 68% had an overtime slip on file
• Only 50% of overtime approved in advance
• 24% were incorrectly calculated
