Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) Retirement Process
Below are steps to help you begin the paperwork associated with the retirement process for
the Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP).
1. Contact the Alternative Retirement Plan (ARP) office that you participate with to discuss
retirement options and to give notice as to your retirement date. It is recommended that
the ARP office be contacted thirty (30) days prior to expected date of retirement.

2. Contact the New Mexico Retiree Health Care Authority office to discuss Retiree Health
Care options.

3. Contact the Social Security Office to discuss Medicare options.

4. Submit your retirement letter to your supervisor with your end of CNM employment date.
The letter should also list your retirement date, which is different from the end of CNM
employment date.
E.g. End of employment with CNM on or before 08/31/xx, Retirement effective date is
09/01/xx. (Retirement date should reflect the first date of the next calendar month)
5. Countdown to your retirement date!
6. If you would like to teach after you have retired you will need to sever all employment with
CNM, then you will have to apply for an open pool for possible selection into a part-time

position. If selected you will have to attend new employee orientation as if a new
employee.
