why is blm proposing the
trail project?
The East Applegate Ridge Trail (East ART) is part of
the proposed Applegate Ridge Trail (ART) that would
connect the Jacksonville Forest Park Trails system to
the Grants Pass Cathedral Hills Trails system as well
as the proposed Jack-Ash Trail near Sterling Creek
Road (Map 1). The East ART is Phase I of the ART
and requires new trail construction primarily on the
ridges of upper Bishop Creek. All of the proposed
trail is on BLM-managed lands and will not cross
any private land. In cooperation with the Applegate
Trails Association (ATA), BLM proposes to construct
approximately 6 miles of non-motorized trail that
begins 0.6 mile west of Sterling Creek Road at the end
of BLM road 38-2-19.1 and runs to the intersection of
Hwy 238 and BLM road 38-2-14.1 near Forest Creek
Road. In addition to the trail construction, two small
parking areas (less than 0.2 acres each in previously
disturbed locations) would be developed at either end of
the trail. The proposed trail construction is located in
the S½ of Section 19, T. 38 S., R. 3 W., and the N.E.¼
of Section 24, all of Section 13 and the NE¼ of Section
14, T. 38 S., R. 3 W., Willamette Meridian, Jackson
County, Oregon.
how can you participate?
The BLM will be preparing an Environmental
Assessment that will document the estimated
environmental effects of the proposed East Applegate
Ridge Trail Project. In order to appropriately address
issues relevant to the trail proposal in the forthcoming
environmental assessment, we are seeking your input.
Comments should be as specific as possible and provide
information on potential issues or concerns that the
environmental analysis should address.

Your comments will be most useful if they are received
