Xiang Zhang is a Chancellor’s Professor and the Director
of NSF Nano-scale Science and Engineering Center (NSEC) at
the University of California, Berkeley. He also serves as the
Director of Department of Defense MURI Center on Metamaterials
and Devices. His current research focused on meta-materials,
nano-photonics, nano-imaging and fabrication.
Professor Zhang is a recipient of NSF CAREER Award
(1997); Engineering Foundation Award (1997); SME Dell K. Allen
Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer (1998) and ONR
Young Investigator Award (1999). He is selected as a finalist for
the 2005 Small Times Magazine Small Tech Best Researcher Award. He
has given more than 60 Plenary, Keynote or Invited talks at
international conferences and institutions. His research was
featured by media such as BBC News, MRS Bulletin (Materials
Research Society), Physics Web, San Jose Business Journal.
Professor Zhang received Ph.D from UC Berkeley. He
was an assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University
(1996-1999), and associate and full professor (1999-2004) at
UCLA. He joined Berkeley faculty in July 2004. He is an elected
member of California Nano System Institute (CNSI) and member
of NASA Institute of Cell Mimetic Space Exploration (CMISE).
