The following are responses to questions asked during the project Pre-Bid Meeting on site, October 28, 2013, 8:30-9:30am.
1.
Question: What is the size of the existing backflow and mainline?
Answer: The backflow is a 2” size, and the existing mainline size is unknown.
2.
Question: How does CNM prefer to handle barricades/traffic control along the streets during construction,
considering the Paseo interchange work currently ongoing?
Answer: Per Tony Abo of DOT (798-6673), the portion of Alameda adjacent to the project site has been
relinquished to the City and John Kolessar (250-2587) will be the contact person for any work done in that area. In
discussion with John Kolessar, the contractor should be familiar with the City Application process, which will
require a Traffic Control Plan (9:00am-3:00pm) time frame for closure of one lane.
3.
Question: Is trenching (for irrigation) allowed in tree protection zones?
Answer: The specifications generally do not allow for mechanical trenching in tree protection zones. However, due
to the great extent of tree protection on this site, trenching by mechanical means may be utilized provided that the
contractor does not cut or damage roots 3” or larger, per the tree protection specifications as outlined in the Project
Manual. See also Addendum 001.
4.
Question: Should the existing vines on the wall be removed?
Answer: Contractor shall preserve the existing vines to the greatest extent possible.
5.
Question: Does CNM prefer directional boring or trenching for any new irrigation sleeving required?
Answer: Trenching is preferred. See also Addendum 001 for more information.
6.
Clarification Items:
a. Extent of construction fencing: Owner will work with the Contractor for allowable extents of project
fencing as needed to ensure access and egress at parking areas and buildings.
b. Staging: Coordinate staging area with Owner. Allowable staging areas: Primary staging to be within a
portion of the southwest parking lot area. Secondary staging may be allowed along the western edge of the
visitor parking area.
c. A systemic herbicide spray application will be required on actively growing existing turf grass areas. See
also Addendum 001 for more information.
d. Turf removal methods, general: after application of the herbicide spray, ensure die-back of turf before
overlaying with weed barrier fabric.
e. Turf removal methods in tree protection zones and drainage basins: Turf and sod are required to be
removed prior to weed barrier fabric and rock mulch installation in drainage basins. Some of the drainage
basin area overlaps with tree protection zones. Therefore, sod cutting machine use will be allowed up to 3”
depth for areas where sod is required to be removed.
f. Grubbing of the existing willow hedge to 12” depth is also required.
