Creating Documents Using Google

Creating documents compatible with Microsoft Office
As a student at CNM, you have access to an online software productivity suite that will
allow you to create documents that are compatible with Microsoft Word, Excel and
PowerPoint. In addition, you are provided with 5 Gb of online file storage. To access this
software, open your web browser and enter the following address: drive.google.com
On the page that opens, enter your CNM student username and password
Once you have entered your credentials, you will be presented with the following. Click
on the Sign In button to validate your username and password through the CNM
servers.
The page will now change to the following. Once again enter your CNM student
username and password to validate through the CNM servers.
Once you have validated your credentials, you will be presented with the Google Drive
homepage. Click on the Create to begin creating your document.
Once you click the Create button, you will be allowed to choose which type of file you
would like to start (document, spreadsheet, presentation and more).
When you begin to create your document, the system will auto-save any changes you
make while typing.
When you are ready to download your file, return to the Google Drive tab in your
browser.
This will download a copy of the file in your chosen format to the Download folder on
your computer.
Google Drive on Android or iOS
Google provides Google Drive apps for Android and iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch).
These apps allow you to access your Google Drive and edit/create documents and
spreadsheets (no presentations at this time).
Gmail access outside CNM
Students can access their CNM email through my.cnm.edu, or alternatively, by going to:
https://mail.google.com/a/cnm.edu
Google also provides a mobile app for Android and iOS devices which will allow you to
retrieve your email away from your computer. The app is built-in on Android devices,
and can be downloaded from the App Store for iOS. The login procedure for email is
similar to that for Google Drive, in that you will need to validate your username and
password through the CNM servers.
