COMPLETION OF THE FORM
Every household must complete Part 1 of the form (relating to the Household). Each member of the household must also
complete Part 2 of the form (or have someone complete this form for them).
INCLUDE in PART 2:
All persons who normally form part of the household on Census night.
Those persons who normally form part of the household but are temporarily absent from the household on Census night (for
example Camp children attending Stanley House, or persons temporarily overseas on holiday, on business, or for education or
training purposes).
INCLUDE IN PART 3:
Temporary Visitors to the Falkland Islands who normally live elsewhere (those persons visiting on holiday or for other reasons
who will be in the Islands for less than 3 months) who are present in the household on Census night. Their details should not
be included in Part 2 (Personal Questions).
DO NOT INCLUDE:
Persons staying temporarily with the Household on Census night who are members of the UK Armed Forces currently serving
in the Falkland Islands or their dependents.

HOUSEHOLD QUESTIONS
There are 14 household questions each starting with the letter H which relate to the household to which the form is sent. A
household means either one person living alone or a group of two or more persons (who may or may not be related to each
other) living, or staying temporarily, at the same address sharing or participating in common housekeeping.
The Householder - A householder means a person aged 16 years or over who is head, joint head, or acting head of a
household who is resident in the Falkland Islands on Census night.
Why are these questions asked? - The answers to these questions provide an indication of the size of homes, the cost of
housing and the extent of overcrowding. This information will help Government to assess housing need and plan for the
future. The kind of place a person calls home, the number of vehicles a person owns, and the number of household
appliances they have are very closely related to that person’s standard of living.
PERSONAL QUESTIONS
Why are these questions asked?
Name, Address, Date of Birth and Relationship - these details are required so that enumerators can check that all
relevant persons have been included in the Census. The Census report will not publish a person’s name or address. Knowing
how many men, women and children of different ages are located in different parts of the Falkland Islands helps in working
out the need for education and health services.
Country of birth, citizenship and national identity - an understanding of the origins of all the people who call the
Falklands home is essential in developing policies and services which reflect the needs of society.
Language spoken at home - knowing which other languages are spoken at home and how well English is spoken helps in
planning for education resources for teaching English.
Jobs and work - information on how many people are working or looking for work tells us a lot about what is happening in
society and the economy. Information on unpaid work helps to measure the contribution of such activities to society and the
economy.
Income – information on income provides an indication of living standards and, along with information on the cost of
housing, helps to determine the affordability of housing in the Islands.
