HSE/GED and English as a Second Language CENTRAL NEW MEXICO COMMUNITY COLLEGE School of Adult & General Education HSE/GED and English as a Second Language Adult Basic Education (ABE) courses help students prepare for the GED/HiSET exam or learn English as a second language. The ABE program offers instruction to adults who do not have their high school diploma and to adults who do not speak English as their first language. The fee is $10.00 per academic year. All students must first attend an orientation and take a placement test to determine their reading, math, language or English levels. There is no online registration for ABE. To register for ABE orientation, bring the following with you to one of the ABE office locations: • A photo ID that includes your birth date (state driver’s license, state ID card, visa, or passport) • Your current address • Your current phone number • $10 fee (payable by cash, check, debit or credit card) • If you are 16 or 17 years of age, an underage verification form (see below) Students under 16 are not admitted to Adult Basic Education classes.
